Is this cheap beginner woodworking tool better than a track saw?

I'm using a tool for cuttings sheet goods like plywood but is much cheaper. I was just trying to make some upgrades to my small workshop. This was supposed to be a beginner woodworking project but it turned out to be harder than it should have been because I kept making sooo many mistakes. Knowing what I know now, I would have completed this project in 1 weekend. So hopefully you learn from my mistakes and don't make the same fails I did. I had already built cabinets for my small workshop and I just wanted to build some drawers out of plywood and also a drawer box. My first mistake was drawing up my plans before I bought the plywood. I just continued to make mistakes after that.

Then ill remember how outrageous the price is on everything now days and say i can save everything but material cost and be done in a day or 2. After all the mess ups, time wasted, and researching new things i sometimes wonder if im actually saving money or not lol.

if your looking for a track saw and dont want to spend a ton the wen is 167 with tracks i believe. Its been a really good to me for a fraction of the price and i dont regret it at all. Its honestly got me looking at more of their tool line. Also im loving your channel man and can see you getting to 100k in no time. Also like how you leave in the mess ups and how you deal with them because as people were rarely perfect and we all know most jobs are 25% fk ups, 25% cussing, and the other 50% fixing what we messed up one way or another. one thing you should look into is a 3d printer as well. Id reccomend every shop to have one as theyre amazing for printing out jigs, those plastic containers you bought, wall mounts for tools and so on. Like one of those tubs you bought could be printed for like 25-50 cents and its super easy.

Thanks for keeping it real- this is what everyday, normal woodworkers go thru. And yeah- every woodworking channel I follow there’s always the “I could make that too if I had $10,000 in tools!” How do they come up with that number? Is it all the same person? All my tools are $20-$30 from Walmart or Harbor Freight with a coupon. Kinda doubt they could make anything with $10,000 in tools.

I would like to offer some advice if I may. You do something that I too struggle with. It looks like you're using your phone to record these videos, so do I. My advice is to look at the camera and not yourself on the screen. It always looks like you looking around and not at the audience. Like I said, I do that too. Please feel free to comment that on one of my videos. LoL! Great video though. I think painting the drawers was a good idea. I'm not one who thinks shop furniture should look museum quality. If I salvage drawers from a desk or dresser for my shop I don't fancy them up and make them all look the same. Thank you for sharing your journey on this build. God bless.

You should have just unbolted the top cross member from the cart and the box would fit no problem no sanding no cutting. But i get it, sometimes the brain just doesn't think outside the box (that you're building) or maybe the cart is welded together lol. Anyway, keep that in mind should you ever decide to remove the box from the cart. Also remember this rule of thumb whenever you build anything that resembles a box, (even if you think your wood is flat, it isn't), find which way the bow of each member goes, and face it towards the inside. Would have prevented your drawer slide issue as well as having to shave them off with the table saw. I did enjoy the video and appreciate the sense of humor. /dirt off your shoulders

This is a great video, there are so many lessons here. You have good problem solving skills which are harder to pick up than a lot of woodworking stuff. Material inaccuracies are a fact of life, so is bowing and warping you cant blame home depot(even if they are worse than normal) for that you need to learn to check for it because you will never get perfect stock. Also circular saws are closer to hand tools in that they require practice and regular use to be accurate with, fences and guides only partially of offset that. Its why track saws are so popular with woodworkers because you essentially need to be a carpenter who uses circular saws daily to not see them as inconsistent.
@jascogoods
@jascogoods Ай бұрын
Thanks brother I appreciate the encouragement. I agree, its hard to get good at using a circular saw unless you are doing rough carpentry like framing where a wavy cut isnt as crucial. A track saw is on my long list of tools I want/need.

@@jascogoods I know, right? What I'm saying is that your sliders alone make the entire project a money pit and there are much better ways to source the material and the hardware. It's not "repurposing" as only the spare parts and panels were reused, the result had nothing to do with any of the "source" furniture. I'm just about ways to making the project (and the mistakes!) affordable, as well as doable with limited hardware (who has a jointer in their 2-bed appartment?), that's it.

What drill bits are you using that have the stop on them so you don’t drill through the wood? Never mind. I found it in the description. Thanks for including that info. Thanks for the video.

I enjoyed watching this it’s making me laugh a lot. Just what I needed! Have a question on the bow. Could you trim it in the side and place a weight in the bow area to reform it closer in. Not sure I explained that well but hope I get my point across.
@jascogoods
@jascogoods 17 күн бұрын
Thank you, I appreciate the encouragement and I'm glad I could make you laugh. I'm not sure if that would work. I have but weights on wood before to get bows out and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I would have to do some more research.

Love the build but I find the handles you used are constantly snagging your clothes or a strap etc Its a pain.. (I have similatr handles on my kitchen cabinets and as soon as my wife signs the immunity papers i will change them. Keep up the good work.
