This week I discuss the 1/8 scale Pocher Bugatti, a classic kit first released in the 1960s. It's an incredible model - over 2,000 pieces, held together by nuts and screws, and pricey to boot! But does it really deserve the title regularly given to it online - "the most beautiful model kit ever made"?

If you need tools for it, investigate computer tool kits; they have some ridiculously small sockets, screwdrivers and other bits and bobs that can come in well handy, and usually all in one kit. That aside, this looks fantastic. I've seen other Pocher kits in the past (never this one though) and they've all been a labour of love for whomever builds them - they're not a weekend build! Pocher's attention to detail is on another level. Great find.

Another thought is a jewelers repair kit available on EBay. Lots of tiny tools for doing all sorts of things to tiny, tiny parts.

Very good video. I am taking a break from building my Pocher Bugatti. I've had the kit for 30+ years and decided it was time to finish the model. Your video can work as a benchmark. Parts are available for this kit, so, you may be able to repair yours.

Hi Dave. I've bought a identical yellow Pocher Bugatti 1/8, one hour ago by Ebay (It comes from Italy). It is my second Pocher . First is a Mercedes 500 K 1/8" 1932, red. I will be counting the twenty days until coming (the new) to Miami. Dave, this Pocher were built in the 90s. Is impossible to think that the car is absolutely perfect after almost 30 years. But always you'll find a person to fix it. In my case my Pocher will come with several imperfections but a good technician will fix the damaged parts I enjoy every day simply watching my current red Pocher. The Pocher 1/8 are a masterpiece The most beautiful? , I don't know. I have the CMC Bugatti Corsica 1938 1/18 refull, with fine 1/18 figures and driver. Both Bugatti are fantastic and extremely beautiful

Sheer beauty and very well painted - congrats to your find. I nearly have all Pocher Classics, most of them still unbuilt and mint in their box - waiting for my retirement when I will have time to build them ;) . Around 2000, Pocher went out of business, and dealers just wanted to get rid of the kits, so I got your Bugatti in sealed box for 400 EUR, and the (IMO even more beautiful) Bugatti Surprofile, the Coupe version of the T-50, for 300 EUR. At that time I purchased every Pocher I could find, now my cellar is filled up to the ceiling with dozens of big Pocher boxes. Unbelievable, but true. You might want to try the even more spectacular Mercedes variants - they have more parts and especially the black convertible is a wonderful model.

@@DavesModelWorkshop Yes he is one of the greatest models I know. There are small series on this scale, some completely made of metal, but they are very expensive. It's a shame that Pocher no longer exists. But I doubt an assembled model is profitable. It would have to be an unbuilt model kit.

Dave, in Italian the "ch" before an "e" is pronounced like an English "k". So it should be po-kair, rhyming with "hair". The computer tools may well be small enough. There's a shop near the Vic Market that has those tools and they are not so pricey.

Nice find. Someone did a nice job putting this together. Did you ever fix that front axle? Frankly it's no wonder it failed Pocher used a cheap die casting instead of drop forging nickel steel like Ettore Bugatti did on the real one, lol. I built one of these 30 years ago. It's the easiest of the Pocher "classics" to build because unlike the earlier ones most of the parts actually fit together! Though it was easy it took about a year of steady work to complete. The classic kits just seem to go on forever and of course there are things to improve everywhere on a 50 year old model.

Nice kit indeed. I have a Mercedes from Pocher in the same scale. Alas...... If nobody tells you to polish the shit out of ALL metal parts, and cover them in a high quality clear lacquer, they will start rusting........... But you won't find out until it's too late. How do you polish and paint all metal parts once the model has been assembled ? Well.... You basically take the model apart again, with or without force, and rebuild the whole damn thing..... Thank you Rivarossi Pocher, for NOT telling us in the instructions and for providing us with scrap metal............. And these kits are bloody expensive, too....!!!!

Purchased the Pocher Alfa Romero 40+ years ago. I was completely disappointed. The lack of workmanship, poor fitment and generally a poorly manufactured model kit. Most of the screw holes needed to be taped. The fiddliest model I ever came across. Even back then these kits fetched a pretty penny. I ended up giving it away...beware before you buy.
