Although both are Turtle in English, the edible Turtle and the Turtle seen in the zoo are actually different species, and they are also represented by different words in Chinese! The edible Turtle should be Soft-shelled Turtle, which means 鱉 in Chinese, and the one with a hard shell is 烏龜! Turtle contains 18 essential nutrients, 8 of which are amino acids that cannot be synthesized by the human body. It is a food supplement with extremely high nutritional value! However, not everyone can eat turtle, there are some taboos: 1. Hepatitis patients should not eat soft-shelled turtles. Eating soft-shelled turtles can increase the burden on the liver and worsen liver disease. 2. Patients with poor gastrointestinal function should not eat soft-shelled turtles. In such patients, eating soft-shelled turtles can cause gastrointestinal symptoms such as abdominal distension, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and indigestion. 3. Pregnant women should not eat soft-shelled turtle. Because soft-shelled turtle is cold in nature, eating it may cause abdominal pain and even induce miscarriage. 4. Patients with insomnia should not eat soft-shelled turtle as it is not easy to digest and absorb. Especially eating it at night may cause stomach discomfort and aggravate insomnia. 5. Pay attention to the freshness of soft-shelled turtles, because soft-shelled turtles contain histidine, which can spoil quickly after death and breed bacteria. Eating it can easily cause gastrointestinal discomfort or even poisoning. 6. People with allergies should not eat soft-shell turtles because soft-shell turtles contain a large amount of protein. People with allergies can easily cause allergic reactions such as erythema, rash, and itching after eating. 7. Soft-shell turtles should not be eaten together with the following foods, because these foods are cold foods. Eating them together can easily irritate the gastrointestinal tract and induce abdominal pain or even diarrhea: Peaches, amaranth, eggs, pork, rabbit meat, mint, celery, duck eggs, duck meat, mustard, chicken, eel, crab. I originally stopped writing a comment, but after watching this video for four minutes, I realized that Indonesians couldn’t explain clearly, so I couldn’t help but write it again! P. S. Ear cleaning tools must be disposable, but locals don’t seem to care. In fact, it is a dangerous behavior and can easily cause infection! It is still recommended to go to a modern qualified professional clinic for ear cleaning. They also have photomicrography that allows patients to use their mobile phones to watch all the actions performed simultaneously! Curry is no longer exclusive to India or Southeast Asian countries. Now almost all Asian countries have this food, and it contains more rich ingredients! In fect, Japan is the only country that sucks noodles, and it is considered impolite in other Asian countries! However, even young Japanese now also say that it is something that only old Japanese people would do! All these videos are educational. Food is the way to learn about any culture. I am now learning the names of the foods I ate. Keep making more videos. Like most Indonesians I love my wartegs, but did you really go to the old Chinatown without having any pork dish? I thought maybe it was because Arie’s a strict Muslim, but he’s okay with eating turtles and touching dogs, so that must not be the case. You’re missing out if you’re skipping non-halal food, especially if we’re talking about bakmi noodles. The best ones in Jakarta are porky even when we’re talking about bakmi ayam (chicken) because you can’t really replace lard with anything.

That kind of turtle is not haram at all brother :) and I touch dogs all the time, just was afterwards hehe , well we simply dont have enough time, sometimes I show my guest pork based dish too, in this case chinese influenced dish of Jakarta already covered so we opt for other ethnic based group, thaks for the input and keep em coming for future improvements thank youuu

18:17 you’re not that far off because in another North Sumatran town of Bagansiapiapi there’s a similar dish that’s referred to as both “bihun kari” or “laksa bagan”. It’s one of the many laksa varieties found all over Indonesia. I have a video on several of them, do check it out if you want!

No the best food is home cook food you should try to live as a farmer or corporate worker a day in Indonesia 😅 and have a host Mom and Dad, and try or experience the locals meal a day (breakfast, brunch, lunch, evening snack, dinner) Many Indonesians would love to give a place to sleep free and don't forget to visit kondangan or Indonesian wedding party many people would love to invite you free to the party but don't forget to help wash the dishes or help cooking or help serving the elderly 🤪 But warteg is one of the best though 👍 Cheap, big portion, so many kind of varieties yum and yeah reminding you with home cook meal

They don't say the species of freshwater turtle that is used. But the Texas Red-eared Turtle (sometimes called the Red-eared Slider) is an invasive (non-native) turtle that is found all over.

I’m not sure because they only say labi-labi which is the generic term for softshell turtles, but it might be Asiatic softshell turtle. It’s not endangered and not currently a protected species under Indonesian law, but it’s listed under Appendix II CITES (species that are not necessarily now threatened with extinction but that may become so unless trade is closely controlled).

Tbh I was not impressed with any of the dishes you tried man. I’ve visited Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore , Honk Kong , Taiwan and Philippines but this makes me not want to travel to Indonesia. Thanks for video.😊

I'm from Germany, I want to go to Indonesia next month, because Indonesia's nature is good, I want to go to Java and Bali, Indonesia, their food is also delicious, I've eaten in Germany.
