GENG haters were waiting for this one moment which GENG to lose or out of the tournament. People calling EWC as riot major tournament are clueless. We know for the fact that it was not organized by riot. The teams attending the tournament because of invitation not through qualification. The quality of tournament format was just too bad.

GenG's loss only represents that they are mortal. It just creates the possibility that they could lose. They're still the heavy favorites to win LCK. What TES showed is that there are answers to Canyon's jungle pool and banning Zyra/Nidalee makes him not as dominant. GenG may not have been in their best form, but shutting down Canyon does seem to be an option to combat them. I think T1's victory in EWC reminds the audience that their loss against KT doesn't necessarily mean that they're a bad team. If you give T1 any avenue, they will use it to create a massive snowball to destroy you in the mid/late game. It's not a big momentum swing for T1 to win LCK, but sleeping on T1 is a big mistake. It's still possible for T1 to lose to HLE, KDF, and other contender teams. I still think DK has less of a chance of beating T1 because of a major mental advantage T1 have over them. They still have to figure out how to beat GenG. There are still arguments to believe that T1 are the 2nd best LCK team and while other teams may have better chances against GenG than them, T1 are still overall favored against everyone else.

Golden Road is every tournament you take part in during your actual seasonal year, Demacia Cup and Kespa Cup never counted because those are preseason tournaments where most teams don't even field their actual starting lineup

it doesn't matter for LoL but it matters for esports as a whole, the Club Championship is worth it alone, for the next few years we might see T1/GEN/HLE/DRX actually invest in good rosters on other games or other games try and get inside LoL like NAVI/OG Esports/Team Spirit/Team Secret. T1 probably regret not having enough rosters for other games, if they did, they might've won the Club Championship.

I dont think the ESWC matters in the slightest if gen g wins summer and the world's that counts as golden road because that's what every other team in history that's almost completed it has had to be judged by. If you add this event you have to change all the historic teams that have been close, 2016 skt, 2019 g2 and 2023 jdg would all instantly be forgotten

It does get pretty ridiculous how pre-emptive people are on literally everything regarding how good teams are lol. League fanbase is so obsessed on "best in the world" arguments it's almost the only narrative people care about. Whenever a team gets dominant, the golden road argument gets played up to oblivion. I don't ever recall RNG 2018 or any SKT roster ever discussed a golden road. It's tiring at this point lol.

RIP Golden Road Any failure at a legitimate international tournament with actual competitors and a serious sizeable prizepool + trophy counts towards the Golden Road. GenG losing in the fashion they did is pure embarassing for the LCK, thankfully T1 was there to carry the trophy for the LCK as they always have had to do the past few years

Golden road is suppose to show a teams undisputed dominance over the year. That's what I appreciated about jdg going into worlds last year. Now fo gen.g, this loss kinda gnaws at the back of my head. Whenever geng golden road gets mentioned my head goes "but this". I'm fine if riot still honors them golden road if they win summer and worlds. But I feel like the "undisputed" part is "questionable" after ewc

@@jessm.sandler7187 Which is why no one but GenG haters regard EWC as a tournament with a fair format, right now the only tournament that still uses single elimination is Worlds, from Quarters to Finals, but there are weeks of games before those elimination matches, this gives the teams time to prepare and adjust their strategies which contributes to the quality of the tournament, having a loss at that stage is pretty definitive, however, a loss at EWC is akin to a fluke, none of the teams were at their best because they got plucked from their regular splits regardless of their performance, they had no time to improve and overall the worst of conditions, yeah, GenG clearly lost, the teams that had better strategies/adapted better won and I'm not disputing the worth of the wins that took place at EWC, but to use a single BO3 loss to discredit GenG is crazy.

Format is definitely garbage, though this happens right in the middle of summer splits so meta reads and adjustments happen there instead of here. Which can be good or bad though may fit better next year when regular champs is initiated.

@@jessm.sandler7187 I would be fine with it if the meta stayed the same as the regular split but the EWC was played in a different patch (14.13) that no league was playing, so it's also questionable from that angle as well, and I do agree that the -main- issue is the single elimination right off the bat but it would be more convincing if all of the matches were BO5, just like Worlds quarters to finals where every match matters

It’s always funny to see wolf excuse gen.g for losing when they are expected to win. But when T1 wins it’s always comes with excuses the other teams didn’t play well, this tournament doesn’t count. All these N.A. casters love hating on T1. So basically this tournament we excuse Gen.G for losing BLG for losing and this tournament helped NA for a confidence boost but the actual winners get no credit? Wonderful logic 😂

I disagree about their take on golden road. Maybe EWC will be a trash tournament in the future which shouldn't count, but this year 2 best teams from each region were invited. Format could be improved, but in essence the level of competition should be similiar to MSI, and that's the reason why it should count. It was never about "not losing in anything", and I agree things like Demacia Cup etc shouldn't count(as I feel like it makes no sense to count non-global tournaments), but this one seems hard to compare for me. Why forcing the other narrative now? The harder it is to achieve golden road, the bigger the honour if some team does it eventually. Seems more like a myth that way, which is cool. Saying it was established as 4 tournaments(by the way, by who and when?) - Spring, Summer, MSI and Worlds make no sense. That's inflexible definition, which for example makes no sense for current LEC format.

The golden road came from Golf and Tennis. It's basically the Grand slam where the 4 big tournaments per year is where it's counted. There are invitational tourneys in between but it never counted towards it. This is where it came from and that's why casters and people who have a say on LOL tie it, so unfortunately for people like us we can't have our own definition on it.

@@esoncabalde5442 But in tennis each slam is also optional. If you don't feel well you can decide to not partecipate and yet they all do count for the Grand Slam. So the fact that EWC is optional doesn't really matter

Here we go again with Montecristo and his arrogance and narcissism. While I agree that its unfair to count this on the Golden Road for now, I highly disagree that the only ones with a say are the ones with the microphone. Im sorry, but you guys are nothing without fans and normal players. What the general lol population thinks is more important than what the pundits say and think. I see the golden road as similar to perfect game. Before perfect game was just 0 deaths, 0 turrets 0 baron 0 dragons. What happened when heralds became a thing? Well you have to start counting them because the concept of a perfect game is 0 kills 0 objectives ceded. The golden road is similar, it means winning all tournaments that teams are eligible for in the year. AS LONG AS ITS A RIOT SANCTIONED EVENT, it should count. Now this ECW wasnt handled by riot, so therefore it doesnt count. But should RIOT make it official it should count, and No montecristo, you are not the one who get to say if it should count or not. Its RIOT.

I agree but there is one mistake in what you said. The tournamant wasn't organized by RIOT but it is sanctioned by Riot. It was under Riot regulations. And that is what sells it for me. Because if a player were to get banned in that tournament it would also have impact in their leagues, and there is no way that a non official tournament should impact the one Riot organizes. So it has to count. Also who in their right mind would consider a 1 million tournament as non important? I feel like people just have a hate for the country organizers. If the event was held in USA or China i don't think people would be this upset but quite the opposite. They would think how cool the event is

Sadly, it counts. If GEN-G had won, people would have added this tournament onto their golden road story. You can't have it one way and not the other. Also it doesn't matter if you think it doesn't count, because it wont be unanimous among the community. The EWC will always be an asterisk next to 2024 GEN-G. Frankly the way they played against TES, they deserve the shit they are getting. If T1 dismantled them they have no excuse as the tournament favorites. The amount of GEN-G glazing that has been born from the hatred of T1 fanaticism has actually come full circle. You are being just as cringe as the most hardcore T1 fan when you won't hold them accountable for their loss. Give T1 their flowers, they had a great showing.

@@esoncabalde5442 There is not. Some people say that it's every tournament, some only the major tournaments. And Riot never stated what a golden road is so it's always up to the fans unless Riot comes out and decide what the gr is

as a t1 fan. even i can say that this tourney is a mickey mouse ass win. im not satisfied and im still scared asf as to what t1s future is after their current slump in terms of overall current power level. T1 can still turn sht around, at their best the only team that could match them is GENG. But i NEED to see consistency from them. Ever since the start of the ZOFGK era, they have NEVER been truly consistent after they won their first and currently only lck win in this era. I want them to get over this bad tendency of mental booming when the pressure gets heavy. Because currently last worlds looks like an outlier. I need more from them as i dont want them to end up being one of the biggest "what ifs" in league history.

Valid expectations and I agree with your take, T1 needs to be more consistent but need I remind you that it's back to DDOS attacks again, Riot has not been able to do jack about it but the expectations we place on T1 as fans hasn't dropped. I just don't see it happening man. I will just enjoy and appreciate T1 and hope they continue to write their own story but thay just me.

@@roninakuma2287 they are only ddosing the streams. So they still have scrims vs other lck teams and scrims vs their academy teams. The ddos attacks are not an excuse for doing the wacky ass Inting thing they do on enemy blue. Furthermore their issues have been mostly draft related. I do not like to seem them get sucked into geng’s meta where I actually think they are unbeatable in.

@@zackrasphodos.2305 You might want to recheck your info, other teams are still avoiding them because they get attacked whenever they try to scrim T1. The inting is inexcusable and drafting errors isnt down to DDOS attacks but the problem remains. Their academy team is on the receiving end of the attacksm T1 just decided to stop complaining about it since Riot (the Vanguard company 😂) is too blind and lethargic to do anything about

Hopefully things turn around once this wacky ass ad mid ap carry meta gets nerfed to the ground. It’s genuinely so unfun to watch after a few days of seeing the same thing that just lacks interaction and gameplay from the enemy team.
