That is very, very true. People get upset about competition but without it, pricing can get out of hand quickly and designs get stale.

They look like good tires. They are about half way between the d sport/d606/mt21’s and shinko 244’s which is a good place to be for a lot of us. I’ve run a couple sets of mt21’s, they work great everywhere but melt on the road, the shinko 244 I ran lasted well but isn’t grippy enough off road for me.

The DR650 is at least 100 lbs lighter on the front tire so not a fair comparison. I have the Tusk Dsport on my KLR and have done BDRs and highway (300 miles one day) using them and no problems. Love that Tusk is offering other options. Thanks for the reveiw.

First folks, not all of us are hard core ride every weekend and rip the trail riders. I don’t need to spend lots of money on tires I’m not going to “use”. Tusk has provided me as an occasional recreational rider value options. Tires and other products. Just because I’m not as fast or as often rider doesn’t mean I don’t have lots of fun when I do. Job/life is different for each of us. My recreation time is limited. I’ve gotten good “use to value” out of Dsports on my Dual Sport. Though I agree that the front doesn’t match the rear in capability. But, I’ll continue to buy more Tusk products because Rocky Mountain ATV/MC (Tusk being their in-house brand) is an American company supporting the sport/recreation in many facets. Knowing people that work there, they’re employee owned and support their employees to be passionate and involved in it as well.

Well said! When I got my first KLR, I had no idea what Tusk was. I just knew I needed their low profile drain plug and could actually afford their crash bars. Everything I ever purchased did exactly what I expected and usually way more. I'm sure people think I'm just pushing their products to make a commission, but I've always trusted and recommended their products. The fact that it pays the bills is just a good excuse to ride more 🤣

well said! I hate when people assume "oh it's a 50/50 tire so i do half my riding on road and half off road" well in my case I use my bike as a daily commuter but then in the evenings or weekends I love to do gnarly single track and push my bike off road- even though i do way more road miles, i need a meaty enough tire to handle the weekends. I've been running a Kenda Trakmaster on the rear and some years I go through 2 a year, so I'm hoping this Waypoint may hold up a bit better and have more manners on the road! Ordered one after watching this video.

I found that you have to air down the front tire more than a full knob for accepable traction offroad. At full psi the front is dangerous offroad. it needs needs a tire cutter to increase the valley to knob ratio towards the edges. On the road i found that the front tire is glue. the back tire is glorious both on and offroad.

The Kenda K 270 tires have served me well. I run their 3.25 X 21 up front. I like the wider tire, and the price is good also. I replaced the front at about 7 K miles. I am 65 years old and do not ride the bike very hard. Hope this helps.

@user-uz5ox8kh3h I had Kendas on my Gen1 KLR when I got it. I liked them but found them a little squirrelly when pushing hard in the corners. The Shinko 244 side lugs are tied into the casing a bit better. They feel more stable on asphalt and equal the off-road traction of other tires with similar treas design, IMO. Thanks, I may go back to the Kendas if Shinko keeps going up in price.

When you spend the money(hard earned $$) you really can't afford a "Do-Over" for any reason. Tires are the point of contact & they need to be tops(grip wise) especially when on the road w/ other vehicles. Not having the best traction can get ya hurt or worse so thanks for the low down. I've got lists of "stuff" for bikes & I'm adding this to mine so when the time comes I can compare them to my other tires on the list. peace

What’s the fastest you went on the road with these waypoints? Cause occasionally (when I’m not on dirt) I hit speeds of 80mph and I don’t want the front end getting squirrley on me. Lastly, are the side walls stiff enough where I can slowly ride it home if i was to get a flat? (Like the dsports for example)

Seems like a decent 70/30 tire. Let me know when they can last 7000 miles. The Dual Venture front/Adventure rear combo has lasted stupid long for me over the last couple years. I've murdered Tusk tires in a single week before.

Hey Ben, it’s been awhile, but I enjoyed the content as usual. I am down tow two tires for my heavily modded KLX 250. I had thought that I was going to go with the Motoz tractionator adv. and dual venture front. However, this Waypoint is something I really like the look of and what I am hearing review wise. Tusk finally has my rear tire size coming in later next month. Now I believe I will go with the Waypoints as they seem to be great and about half the price. What do you think? Thank you!
@SwankyCatProductions
@SwankyCatProductions 3 ай бұрын
Hey man! I've still been enjoying mine so far! Only had the front slip once in some mud which isn't too surprising... it did make me miss the front D-Sport a tad, but I'm much more confident on road with this one. Motoz are always a great option too though. Hard to say which is better, but I'd say the Waypoints are definitely worth a shot, especially if they're that much cheaper!

Yeah I am too! With the tighter larger treads I think they're going to be a lot better than the D Sports. I think the back could've gone another couple thousand, but the front was cupped at 3,000 so I replaced it. Even those would probably last longer on the lighter XR!

@SwankyCatProductions 3 ай бұрын
Definitely! They are certainly correct in that aspect! Personally, I'd rate them closer to a 50/50 tire, as I couldn't really find any faults with them on road. Perhaps they'll degrade faster than another 50/50? But honestly, I'd rate most 50/50s with much, much more road bias. Maybe it's just me? 🧐

@SwankyCatProductions
@SwankyCatProductions 3 ай бұрын
Yes I have... kind of? Haha I ran Kenda K270s which I believe are almost identical. One is a little softer, if I remember correctly, and it may have been the ones I had? I did a review on them years ago. They may be slightly better off road, in some situations. But my issue with them was that the gen2 KLR they were on was just a little too heavy and I could feel them moving around a bit more than I liked when I was doing around 70 mph. Haven't felt that at all from these, and like I said, so far they feel great on the road. Hope that helps!

@@SwankyCatProductions I run 18/21 and feel like I can push them as hard as a SM on the street but still have meat to chew up the dirt although not a good choice if you want to run low psi the carcass is hard enough that on a flat I can still ride on it like a run flat for a bit without messing up my rim(I don't run rimlocks on that bike so my experience is with low psi it tears the tube at the valve stem I keep it at street pressure even off-road so one less thing to mess with) my 250 on the other hand has rim locks so I can run a more dirt bike tire and benefits from airing down as far as life expectancy I only get about 1500miles(hard miles on the rear front is still good I'm about to put my 3rd anakee on the back and front still looking good) my last set of shinkos I only got 500miles I definitely ride more urban areas lastly they just look so damn good lol worth a try especially if you want to actually ride aggressively on the street and still be able to shred the trails

No, that was the Two Tracks. I get that it's not necessarily confidence inspiring, but some issues just don't show up until it's too late and a recall means they're paying attention and care enough to lose both money and people's confidence in their brand. Just part of manufacturing.

Don't know who is making the Tusk tires but the bottom price point being a variety of Chinese tires buyer beware. If you ride motorcycles, or do anything with sporting goods, China and build quality are an unavoidable issue. I have many friends and will not let them use Shinko because I care about them!! I hope Tusk has some unicorn business plan to sell a decent priced tire. Nobody else does!! So I have not tried them yet, but as Swanky stated I am way less than impressed w Tusk anything I have tried so far. Aluminum luggage and rack were not as reviewed by others and sold everything for @$130 loss after 90 days of use considered myself lucky!! Without riding the tires and seeing the formula of price point, performance and durability I am going to stick w reliable logic in motorcycle tires you get what you pay for..
