What's going on guys? This is VinylicPuma and today, I wanted to do a quasi-review as well as give some of my thoughts on Tiny Tina's Wonderlands so far. And no, Wonderlands isn't bad. In fact, I'd say Wonderlands is Awesome and definitely worth playing!
Hopefully, I can help you determine if Tiny Tina's Wonderlands is Worth it or not. Maybe I'm a little biased since I'm a big Borderlands fan and have been involved with the community for a while. However, the upside to that is that these are the impressions and views of someone that's an enthusiast. There are a lot of things that I like, as well as a few things I'm not particularly crazy about. And I go over all of those things in this video!
I hope you enjoy this video. And as always, feel free to leave your comments in the comment section below.

The thing that sealed the deal for me when it comes to Wonderlands was when I actually got to blow up the ocean with Mr. Torgue. Yes it was a one-off line from Borderlands 2 but I'm glad it's now an actual thing.

I think it’s the coolest moment in any Borderlands game seriously & I’ve been playing since BL1 went to the midnight launch of BL2 I’ve played’em all. When that big wave comes water is dripping off the buildings, etc…then realizing that new area is all explorable & going back to Queen’s Gate map & it’s different now. Plus the pirate stuff like Vinylic points out….Captain Scarlett dlc is one of my all time faves…the pirate stuff in Wonderlands is the best.

I feel like since this game's story is completely disconnected from the main series games, I can focus less on the story and just have fun with it. My problem with bl3 isn't just that the story is bad necessarily, it's that the story itself is overarching. It's a continuation from bl2, bringing all the loved characters back and forcing them into a position where I dislike most of them. Like Maya, they had so many options with here character and they honestly did an awful job with it. They tried to pull another Roland but it honestly doesn't work. That's why, to me, it refreshing to see mostly new characters with bits and pieces of olds ones in there.
@decentdave7
@decentdave7 2 жыл бұрын
I haven't played Wonderlands yet, but I completely agree, why they threw Maya in Borderlands 3 just to die, is stupid especcially because in Arms Race Axton makes a mention about how hes still part of the New-U System, but Maya wasn't? Or does being killed by Troy kill her and erase her from the New-U. Still I agree, gearbox should worry about making enjoyable new characters then forcing in old ones.

It's a looter shooter, who cares about story, looting and shooting are the only two things that matter and bl3 did a better job with both, heck the bl3 base game has twice the content and loot than wonderlands
@penguruvods7395
@penguruvods7395 2 жыл бұрын
@@mathewhosier9739 I mean you do you man but I disagree, one of the strongest parts of 2 was the story and it made for a much better game. A good story doesn't make a good bl game as we see with the pre sequel but I still think it's a very important factor. I actually despise the loot system in 3, giving out legendaries like they mean nothing, and the chaos chambers in wl are a lot more fun, for me at least. The content issue, in general, isn't even that big. Yea I know no playthrough 2 or 3 and a cap of 40 makes it feel much shorter but I think that was the point of it, to make it a less grindy and tedious thing to do. People are also acting like the main story is too short but it really isn't, each main quest is pretty long, and if you take time to do the main side quests there's even more to see. The main quests are a lot more fun to me than the ones in 3 and I think the side quests are an improvement as well. you also need to wait to see what the dlcs have to offer, and updates are already being made that add more guns and loot

@@mathewhosier9739 And I'd be completely cool with that if the twins would shut up. I'm curious to know your opinion on something you didn't mention. The levels in this game are a lot more linear and have fewer big open spaces with nothing in them. Do you prefer level design like in the older games where you had to utilize vehicles to traverse most areas or do you like what Wonderlands did? Personally, I think this game has the best level design of any BL game. BL3 did a similar thing with some of its DLC so I think they took inspiration from that.

I disagree completely. The areas are more compact and thus makes the game feel smaller. The multi tier map is annoying and can be difficult to tell how to get from one level to another. There's been times I join a game and have no idea how to get to where the group is. And the random matchmaking sucks compared to the list we got in bl2 with hosts level and current mission. I would personally guess the reason they chose to do Wonderlands over another borderlands game is 1. DnD is getting extremely mainstream right now 2. probably a way to test things, like I heard a lot of tall about a customizable player but this allowed them to test it out
@chrisvoigt6895
@chrisvoigt6895 2 жыл бұрын
Personally, I feel this game is actually a grand “Beta Test” to try out different game mechanics to include in future Borderlands titles. To throw in all these different gameplay mechanics (like melee weapons and quality of life changes) would really confuse the average BL player. But with Tiny Tina’s Assault On Dragon Keep being THE most popular dlc in bl2, perhaps Gearbox did this to “test” these mechanics on a fanbase that LOVES the combination of role playing and video games. I must say that Gearbox achieved what Wizards Of The Coast has failed with their Dungeons & Dragons video game titles (TTW feels more like a tabletop inspired video game than those who actually own the DnD title & THAT is saying something!!)

Really nice review but i would like to add a few things... "being forced to use legendaries in every slot" that's absolutly untrue since one the best SMG/weapon in the game atm is the cryo purple/blue Nightshade one. For The graveborn pet builds (hydra) you need purple or blue weapons to spawn more hydras. No legendary gun can spawn pets so far. The best spells are purple/blue too.

I liked borderlands, borderlands 2, borderlands 3 even if they fucked up the main story a bit. But the ones i didnt like were borderlands the pre sequal and wonderlands, the main reason for that is because they deligated most of the game to combat based arenas instead of having areas interlinked such as the other borderlands games, something about that little top down veiw map just dosent sit right with me, maybe its because it breaks my emersion as i always liked to just let areas from the previous games envelop me with their scenery. The acting was ok, i liked it over all but the story of the bad guy being a charecter she made with roland felt like it was trying to pull a cheap shot at my nostalgia . The gun play was alright but the guns themselves didnt feel too special, their always some variation of crossbow or crystal launcher thing, honestly i was hopeing for muskets and flintlocks, ya know actual bang sticks but thats just a personal complaint. Over all from my personal experience i'd say the game isnt particularly bad but its not on the good side of things either. i'd say its pretty meh.

I do agree with just about everything that was said in this video. The only real sticking point for me was the fact that the Luck system is a pain. It's a neat idea but the practice of going through and collecting 260 dice found through the whole game is such a turn off. I wish that it was one of those things that you didn't have to do on every single character you make just to be able to have a chance to farm gear. Like if you aren't at near max luck good luck getting dedicated drops of just about any kind. The chaos chamber farming gets so boring when you're just trying to get one piece of gear that you need when the only way to get it is to farm the bunnies after a 15 to 45 minute C chamber run.

I love Borderlands! This game has brought my nostalgia back and reinvigorated my love for these games, which is something Borderlands 3 failed to do for me. I think the enjoyability of a game is the most important thing a game can strive for, which for me is heavily impacted by story and nostalgia, not just gameplay. Borderlands 3 failed on the former options, which is why I rank it as the worst entry into the series thus far (yes, even below Tales from the Borderlands). Wonderlands, however, has it all! The fun gameplay mix of Borderlands 3 and the Pre-Sequel, the fun story and tone of Borderlands 2, and still manages to touch on the nostalgia aspect by keeping it within the canon of Borderlands and its story. I love this game so much and will be coming back to it for years to come, that is something I can't say about Borderlands 3.

As someone who played the BL games since the first, it is a refreshing experience. There's more design in melee thankfully and with the introduction of spells, mainly because a D&D type game, guns are out of place. Because there's no DLCs and because it's brand new, I can't really judge it against BL2 as I remember it since that's with all the DLCs and what not. With that said, I would place it a bit below BL2 but above everything else. BL 3 with its terrible story, premise, the worst antagonist ever, way too many female centric roles and class design that felt incredibly limited or lacking, I'd put it below the Pre-Sequel and even below BL1 (looking back on it now, not from the standpoint of first playing it) The only thing I'd say about Wonderlands is it's in dire need of time so they can then add the TVH mode along with the added DLCs, additional class perk trees, spells and melee weapon types or functions.

All the characters are so iconic and already have voices and aesthetics that have been defined by at least 5 games now (not including Tales from the Borderlands) I just don't see it going well. I promise you Puma, you definitely don't need legendaries to be strong. Some of the best Spellshot builds are duel-wielding two non unique purple spells. A lot of the blue mission rewards are amazing but definitely need the ability to get enchants on them. Hell, a green, non unique SMG called the Nightshade was the strongest thing I had for a long time. It shot 4 bullets at the cost of one, kind of like the Double Anarchys of BL1. I have since found a purple Chaotic version but I still keep it for the LOLs. I promise you that a lot of people are sleeping on great gear just because it's not shooting up a fancy orange beam.

@@emanuelemanuel7038 I'm not and will never be used to it. BL2 was my entry into this series and I would always attempt to use mission rewards and good quality blues and purples to great effect. BL3 was awful in my opinion. I played all 4 VHs and did all content at M10, all the achievements, vault cards, the works and I honestly wish I could have gotten my money and time back. I put a few thousand hours in hoping it would get better but it just never did. It looked and felt the least Borderlands out of all of them to date and I was really worried that Wonderlands would just be BL3 with a new coat of paint. I haven't yet decided if I feel that way about WL yet but Gearbox seems to be making the same mistakes as they did with BL3, now with WL.

I was definitely a bit annoyed with the "classic" default controls and originally did make dpad up a weapon swap too like it use to be in the past. unfortunately, that also gets rid of the QoL feature of quickly buying ammo, healing and selling junk at the vending machines too. I wish that you could bind "holding down" buttons to specific stuff as well so you could have multiple use stuff on buttons. xD I eventually just brought it back to default classic scheme and use my "fourth" weapon slot as like a weapon I only use in specific cases and "quick" swap to it by doing right dpad, then dpad up to go to next weapon. It's a pain but only thing I thought of for now. xD

I like Bl2, it was my first and favorite game. Good story and fun to play characters. Especially broken Sal. Bl3 wasn't that bad, the hook for me were the newer mechanics like vaulting or sliding which was pretty fun. The anointed gear made farming slightly easier for me to make perfect builds. Though, farming perfect gear in general would burn me out or get frustrating after awhile. I have not yet played Tiny Tina's Wonderlands, but once it's released on steam. It would be interesting to see what it has to offer on my playthrough.

My biggest issue with the game is that I have to look for all 260 golden dice per character because luck is tied to the loot rng. It should be where you find them all once and starting new characters will have them discovered like a new game plus feature. You know since there isn't a tvhm or uvhm.
@emanuelemanuel7038
@emanuelemanuel7038 2 жыл бұрын
That would break the early game for every subsequent playthrough. Starting a new playthrough with max loot luck will lead to boring game play as you'll just bulldoze everything with leggies loosing their impact on drop. I don't argue it wouldn't be convenient, it would just kill all subsequent runs and ruin the logarithmic loot cycle this franchise is best known for.

Something I don’t see people really talking about is how this game was NOT optimized for console to a SHOCKING degree. Console, (and I’m talking about Series X / ps5), is suffering from an unbelievable amount of bugs and glitches. And some of these bugs might also translate to pc, but just to name a few: the social menu freezes your game, your quest log disappears, the pictures for your inventory dont show up, certain guns will stop dealing damage altogether, interaction prompts will stay frozen on your screen, etc. You can’t even look at your character in your inventory on console bc the info box for your guns covers your character… like what?! This is bc on pc you have to scroll over the gun with your mouse to show the info box. On console the info box is always there unless you scroll all the way down to an empty inventory slot. It’s like they forgot this game is going to be on other platforms.

Picked it up Sept 2023 from Steam and had zero performance issues I'm from a different perspective... I've never played a Borderlands game,my specialty if you will are isometric ARPGs (Path of Exile, Grim Dawn, Torchlight, Diablo 2, et al), so I can't compare Wonderlands to the Borderlands games. But I have had a blast for the last two weeks with my SporeWardenxClawbringer, and plan to roll a Spellshot this weekend. The skill system doesn't feel deep, but it is effective and manages to give each class a unique flavor, and most importantly, I did feel like I had important decisions to make with every skill point acquired. The class skiils and action skills have been pretty neat, props to the people who balanced and re-balanced the minions... nothing makes me sadge like an ARPG doing minions poorly Items have been a mixed bunch, but I have found a setup that works for an aggressive playstyle. Melee feels good with occasionally great moments, the guns feel great when you find the right ones, the spells feel good although I find some spells unwieldy due to placement issues.... maybe a week or two of Ambi-Hexterous will help me get better at that aspect. Haven't found many jaw-dropping jewelry items, but the ones I do have work perfect for my aggressive playstyle. As someone who has played a number of TTRPGs, I got some of the biggest chuckles out of the interactions between Frette and Valentine... they really do pull off the feel of a group of gamers perfectly. That said, if you don't laugh at the ocean blowing up, you have no soul. I see this as a game I'll be returning to often over the coming years. If gearbox does make a sequel, my wishlist is simple: a more robust skill system and a bigger focus on melee and magic.

I'll be skipping this one and maybe walking away from the Borderland Franchise if they keep this exclusivity with Epic. I have bad blood with Epic from long ago, and switched to Steam early on. BL3 was already old by the time it came on Steam, I felt outcast. I'd already missed several events, and all the KZfaq content was old. As an aside, it is nice to see you back again, but this is likely to be the only video I view from you, because I can't get this game and by the time it becomes available, everyone will have moved on.

I ended up watching you and Bahroo and ended up going back to BL2 (Now years later) and played through again for a year and a half) i loved BL2 also but prefer the gameplay in BL3 and wonderlands. Im not sure how much im going to like the chaos chambers. It looks grindy to me. You can get the uniques on your level through vending machines. First off, I must say its good to see you back, @VinylicPuma!! Secondly, I disagree with your summation of only Legendaries are the only viable weapons to use. I am running a Spellshot/Stabbomancer build and the stars of this build are the 3 Epic Fieriore guns in my loadout. I’m also running a deathless armor mod (for the aforementioned class & sub-class) and this carried me throughout the Chaos trials to level 20. So, while I’m running Legendaries such as wards, armor, rings and amulets, the damage dealers are NOT Legendaries. I’m sure with time i could figure out how to downgrade the Legendaries to epics or even rare gear, i dont think its fair to say this game is “legendary focused”. The lower end gear WILL be viable, but you really need to build around it. THAT is what takes this chapter of the Borderlands saga to the next level… the ability to build around the gear you have on hand. In fact, most of the spells are stronger as epics than the legendary varients. Thats just been my experience.

I completely see where some are getting stuck on using only legendary gear, but at least personally, running my chaos trials through 16 at the time of writing, my equipment is mostly based around a purple pistol, SMG, and spells, and a blue SMG. I found a green pistol that I can make work with my build too. While I admit my damage comes from the pixie and hydra enchants on the Ferirores, I love this game because it steps just to the side of the Borderlands "My big gun or shiny shield will blow everything up" to a focus on weapon effects. I personally feel that the guns aren't as flashy numbers wise or bullets wise, but the weapon effects (ie, hydra, pixie, crossbow bolts, etc., not enchantments) and the push has been towards a "classing" focus, where guns buff classes. Borderlands 2 feels more like classes buff guns.
