It's time to go through Young Justice, an animated TV show that many people have requested I discuss. As I did with Teen Titans, I'm going to go through this show episode by episode, discussing everything that stands out to me about this show. There's a lot to discuss here, and I hope you enjoy it :)

Hey there, folks! Just wanted to leave this comment here because I realize, for those of you who follow my Avatar series and Fullmetal Alchemist series, it might seem strange that I'm starting up yet another series. Unfortunately, I was a bit sick for the last couple weeks with a sore throat, so I was unable to record. However, I did get a lot of scripts done. For example, I have a ton of work on this series already complete, even though I still need to tidy up some scripts, record audio, and edit. As of now, it is a five part series, where I go over 8 episodes each in parts 1 and 2, and 10 episodes each in parts 3, 4, and 5. As for Avatar and the Fullmetal Alchemist series, most of the scripting is done for part 5 of the Avatar review and part 4 of the Fullmetal Alchemist series. So the only major stuff I have left to do is recording audio and sending sections off to my editor for him to help me with. Anyway, just wanted to update you on that, since I know, without proper communication, it could seem like I'm starting up too many things without finishing them. Thank you, as always, for watching my videos. It's greatly appreciated. I hope you have a great day :)

I'm so excited that you're doing Young Justice as well! It's so cool when channels have multiple projects going on at once, it keeps you interested in what you're reviewing I think if you're not talking about the same thing every week. Also it gives people who aren't all that interested in one or two of the other shows a third option to watch. Anyway, great video! I'm super hyped for how your channel is taking off!

When Kid Flash learned about Miss Martian and Superboy's relationship, the fact that he didn't make a big deal out of it won a lot of good will from me. For one, it confirmed that he legitimately didn't realize that she wasn't interested (and I totally understand how, even with that being the case, it could still be annoying), but more importantly, it shows that, despite how he acts sometimes, he's actually more mature than people give him credit for.

I think it could make sense in how she is oblivious to a lot of other things. He could be looking at it and assuming she doesn't realize what he is saying, and she often doesn't seem to catch it. So he assumes he has a shot as she will eventually catch on.

"Why does Kid Flash eat all the ice cream?" I think it's a semi-unstated rule about speedsters in DC that they actually do need to consume calories to compensate for what they burn by running fast. So whenever they're presented with food they basically can't help themselves. Also, I remember Wally in JLU would flirt with women constantly, so I would think that's just how he is and it doesn't have much to do with Miss Martian specifically.

The reason kid flash eats all the ice cream isn't to be cool but because his constant use of super-speed ends up draining him, so he needs to eat food that is high in energy in order to maintain his ability. Young Justice was a huge education in DC for me. I learned about so many DC characters I've never heard off. Like I only knew about big DC heroes and villains. If you were less recognizable than say, Green Lantern or Green Arrow, I had never heard of you. That means the entire main cast of Young Justice except Robin was unknown to me and it was a really cool to learn about these new characters with no prior knowledge or expectations. Now Miss Marvel, Red Arrow, Zatanna, and Kid Flash are some of my favorite characters. Also cool were members of the adult league. Like I love Red Tornado, Black Canary, and Captain Marvel now. Their portrayal in YJ is the standard to which I will compare any movies or TV show appearances to. It makes me anticipate future movie installments featuring these characters more. (And in some cases it makes me mad because the characters were butchered or wasted in the movies). And you can't forget about all the villains! Now I can point to various DC villains when I watch Arrow, Flash, or the movies and say "Hey! I know that guy/girl!" Once again, jYoung Justice was just hugely helpful in teaching me about DC characters and even DC concepts like meta humans, Atlantic, and magic..

Season 1 is by FAR my favorite season. We aren't SO overrun with characters that we can barely keep up with or who are easily forgettable. Having just the core 6 with the occasional drop in from another young hero was nice and allowed room for all of them to really connect to each other as well as the audience. I liked season 2 a lot, but aside from maybe Lagoon Boy or Tim Drake, we really don't get the chance to get to know any of the other new members very well. Which is fine enough I guess. I would've liked a season in between where we could see Robin grow more into the leadership role and out of the Robin role, seen the two relationships grow to where they did, and been more slowly introduced to the new members in a way that they all get to interact with one another. Season 3 was such a huge mess to me I honestly couldn't really enjoy it. My favorite scene was when the original members all ended up fighting together again and Nightwing's fever dream de-aged them back into their immature selves.

13:10 uuuuuh no. You clearly missed what they were shooting for. Ms Martian and superboy compliment each other because they both consider themselves earthlings, but not humans. Your accusation of Ms Martian only liking Connor based off of his appearance is completely ludicrous considering Superboy literally states that, above everyone else, M'gaan (as a telepath) sees him for who he is INSIDE. Not out. This is only highlighted by Superboy's aging conditions and Ms Martian's shape-shifting powers. It is stated so clearly that M'gaan and Connor share a psychic connection over a physical one, yet people STILL seem to be under the impression that she only likes him for his looks. Christ.

Joaquin J Fernandez Because he was arguably the most undeveloped character from the main 6 characters. -Superboy had to deal with his anger and him not being worthy for the mantle of superman. This is due to Superman not seeing superboy as his son/brother and him being a kryptonian human hybrid.(as he is weaker than superman) -Robin had to deal with him wanting to be a different hero than Batman.(He doesn’t want to make decisions that kills his friends.) -Miss Martian wants to be accepted by her friends and later she is scarred by accidentally harming her friends with her powers(she is scared that her powers will make her friends not accepting of her.) -Artemis has to deal with her villain parentage and wants to branch out from her family being villains. She is also insecure about being one of the few in the team that does not have powers. -Aqualad's character development is in the whole of season 2 was about his grief of Tula and not wanting to be the leader after him being scarred mentally by Megan's powers on accident. Then what did we get with Kid Flash? that he needs to be more open with how some things just can't be explained. And suddenly they removed him from the team in season 2 and has to share the spotlight with Impulse where they later killed him off.Do the writers seriously expect us to care about a barely developed character compared to the rest of the team? I admit the episodes where it was Wally centric was rather interesting to watch, especially the one where he has to save a girl's life while on a time limit and declines the gift of a sword as a souvenir. They should have explored more in season 2 about how he was insecure about his speed being slower than the Flash and Impulse, and the potential for character development was there. Its just a shame the show was cancelled in season 2 so abruptly where the potential for that development is now gone.

The villain thing feels a bit like nitpicking. Not every villain is going to get a lot of attention and Young Justice is a series that plays the long game, which isn't neccessarily bad and often makes plot threads coming together satisfying and is the reason villains often disappear for a while. Again not every villain needs to be significant and there are several who are (Lex, Sportsmaster, Cheshyre, Savage, Manta, etc.) and I feel thats enough. And of course the show is limited by its run time. It was a kid's show at launch, with a ton of restrictions and had appeal to kids as much as possible, which is what likely led to its pacing being faster, along with the fact that they wouldn't be able to wrap up all of their plot threads.

The new heroes and how they relate to actual issues in real life (Metahuman trafficking has very similar characteristics to sex trafficking and human trafficking in the modern world) the third season was amazing. I have only one problem with Young Justice 1 and 2. The time skip. After Weismann and Co. wrote such amazing characters and perfect dynamics, they really needed to skip 5 years of their lives for the second season? We see Zatanna in the team for like 5 episodes. Then, first episode of season 2, she is promoted to Justice League. Her relationship with Robin goes completely offscreen. They introduce Rocket in the LAST episode, and they did well. But we don't get any more of her. Until we see in season 3 that she is getting married. Maybe, if we had time to get acquainted with her, we would have cared. In season 2 we are forced to watch the crisis of the couple "Bumblebee-Guardian". Apparently, things are not going as smoothly between them as in high school. Again, if we had seen them on screen before, fighting the evil, we could have cared about them. Also we learn by second hand that Tula and Garth were part of the team, but she died, and this affected Aqualad a lot. Why we couldn't see something of their joining the team, the dynamics with the other members, the bonds, the mourning? Weismann cannot make me care of his characters and then timeskip them out, jumping through crucial moments of their development. He owes us something of those 5 years. In short, season 1 is near to perfection. Season 2 would be great if it were the 4th.

Jayk Shelvandar I get the deeper reasoning for them not initially liking each other but them getting together romantically is based on that idea. It’s them getting together romantically that makes me see it as “if they fight constantly they secretly love each other”, if they didn’t get together but still warmed up to each other after getting over their own problems (and in Wally’s case he opens up to Artemis about his reasons for wanting Roy on the team but he does go onto say Artemis doesn’t have anything to prove). @@MrYoungzay I wish it was a cliche but almost every single relationship I have ever been in started off with us fighting because we liked each other (it is also a classic thing that happens with hormonal teenagers who don't know how to handle their emotions). It does happen but when I watched the show I did not see them fighting because they liked each other. It took Artemis a long time to warm up to Wally and vice versa. They fought because they disliked each other and you can gradually see that over time the more they liked each other the less they started fighting about small things and the more they started becoming flirty. I do enjoy the fact this we are having this discussion so long after the release of this show and how we view certain aspects of the show based off of our own personal lives.

Hey Lowart, just wanted to chime in on the Wally portion: I believe that the show sets up Wally's exaggerated flirtations with an obviously disinterested and oblivious Miss Martian as a way of making fun of him, but it also goes in-depth about how this attitude is actually a coping mechanism for dealing with his repressed feelings towards Artemis. The therapy episode sets this up pretty well so I'd suggest rewatching it with this in mind. It doesn't make him look great, but I don't think he's overstepping any boundaries as M'Gann doesn't really see him as a nuisance. He's harmless and he grows out of it.

I don’t really get the complaint of too many villains. This show isn’t the only one that does it. Shows like Justice League and Avengers: EMH also spammed a lot of villains and only a few mattered. Yet, they don’t get criticized for it.

I'm not interested in the résumé and personal history of every single villain anyway, all the villains in the series had a motivation at least for what they were doing at the time, and that's more than enough already. Anything more would have just sidetracked the plot.

You know, strangely, Ken and Enza's relationship, the scenes where he talks about her, and especially the opening with the fake psychic, are some of the strongest stand outs in the whole series. Along with pretty much everything Ms. Martian. I can remember then very clearly despite not having watched in a long time. Though that's likely more to do with my tastes.

I disagree on the point about too many villains. The show’s approach, of just shotgunning most of them and developing a very select few, contributes to a sense that supervillains aren’t special to these kids, they’re just an expected part of the job. It makes their lives as superheroes feel more normal and relateable. Some people deal with annoying retail customers, the team deals with supervillains.

Also the reason why it's available on Netflix overseas but not in the us is because DC's streaming service is only available in the us. I encourage people to buy the service rn so they get encouraged to make more YJ. This comment is unnecessarily long sorrz.

I'd say I agree with most of your comments except the villain one. Who cares about the legion of *background* villains (for the most part). They're essentially henchmen but with cooler designs, operate that way in the story, and most importantly are portrayed that way on screen. Or they're B- villains meant to serve as obstacles and learning opportunities for the actual main cast. I *would* say the season lacks a strong central figure for the Light though which is an actual problem as they were supposed to be a threat. I don't mean strong as a character like Artemis or Robin is strong as a character because this isn't the type of show to care and I don't care about villains or them feeling fleshed out either. But they weren't strong in that they didnt feel like they posted a legitimate threat to the state of the world for a good chunk of season 1. Season 2 I'd say they actually did a better job of making the villains into a threat that clearly permeates all life on Earth and had the power to mess with reputations and hero standing as well. They weren't "interesting" like people seem to want villains to suck up all the story from the heroes for some reason, but they were threatening and we knew why they were doing what they were doing which is supposed to be the point. And I think they learned from season 1 in that regard. That's probably the only real improvement from season 1 to 2.

With the KF being a flirt... thing (I can’t call it a plot point cuz it’s not) I honestly saw that and really didn’t see an issue with it. Lemme explain, I didn’t see an issue with it because I’ve seen this happen to people close to me before and how we see Wally is how it feels to watch something that is misinterpreted as flirting get drawn out WAY too far and even tho the subject of said “affections” can be as obvious as humanly possible- even sometimes flat out saying- that they’re not interested. It’s uncomfortable to anyone who’s been on the receiving end or been in Rob/Kon/Kaldur’s shoes, but I always thought that might’ve been the point. Bringing forward the minor aspect of KF’s character as a whole and getting it to the point where it could turn you away from the character. Like I’ve said I had to watch this happen to friends of mine and I always wanted to just walk up to the person and knock some sense into them (I say person, but I can for sure say that this seems to be largely a guy thing, in my experience), I finally did and it literally changed nothing (except get me in trouble). Yet when I rewatched this show back in 2016 with a mass crew of friends, first time since the airing, by the time Artemis told Wally about SuperMartian I had quite a few of the guys turning to me and the girls and asking if that’s what it really felt like. Did it feel like it was blocky and uncomfortable as KF made a viewer feel, and when they finally dropped it- only after the object of their affections had clearly gotten with someone else- did it really make you question if it was all just for a dissatisfied huff? All of us said yes.

I liked him in young justice, however I feel this series did him rather dirty and made him fairly one note compared to the other characters. I'm rewatching this series so I can observe season 4, and I think one of my favorite moments in the whole series is Aqualad simply listing off in Season 1 why his teammates aren't ready to be leaders. Each of his teammates fills an archetype you would usually associate with leaders in other shows, so turning it back on its head is a great way to show and not tell why he's the most suited at that moment. I love how that comes back around when they actually become leaders. Like Megan being less eager to please and Conner being more levelheaded

Why hate for Kid Flash? Thought he was good character though I can see why people find him annoying at times. Its kinda part of his charm to be like that. Also I can see the point about the villains. Its this one group, no its another group next episode, while they didn't spent much time on none of them to develop and get to know them. Watched Justice League cartoon so knew about Vandal Savage and others but can see how somebody unfamiliar with anybody other then famous ones like Joker or Lex Luthor could be confused. I think YJ is about as good as I remember it, it was a 6.5/10 show and I still think it hits that mark, just in different ways. The constant time skips and a lot of plot events can be easily avoided. There a good amount of events that just...shouldn't have had happened, like the ENTIRE JUSTICE LEAGUE allowing Dr. Fate to kidnap Zatana's father and doing NOTHING about it. That plotline always, and still does, disgust me. The animation and VA work does win a lot of points though. The biggest issue with YJ is its too...loose? I guess? The show is a lot like Naruto, it jumps from important plot even to the next without care for covering basic information. Characters like Rocket GET MARRIED AND HAVE KIDS yet we don't know with who and it just sort of is meant in passing. I guess some people see it as a plus but my issue with the show is how little it covered the cast's lives. it's one of the shows that kid me was confused as fuck about because I know OF Oracle but seeing her just randomly appear and not even getting an intro always made me think I skipped an episode. The show's ability to transition was horrible. It just assumes you'll be fine with characters going through life-changing events and never even draws attention to it.

Good video. Several compelling points are made, but I did want to offer an alternative perspective on the more subjective aspects. If it turns out I'm fringe, then I'm fringe. Here goes: The biggest area of disagreement is the claim that the many, many glorious cameos and guest appearances were a bad thing. While, in certain stories, I would have preferred more character development, in others it would have been quite the waste. The extensive extended cast adds a little something extra for a wide variety of pre-existing fans, and even some spice for newer fans or casual viewers. If the choice is between filling them with generic characters, awkward name/motivation drops, etc. I definitely favor this approach. Yes, it would have been lovely for a more rushed episode to be a two-parter... *but what are you cutting to create room in the broadcast schedule or budget? ;)* Now, where it is purely subjective; I found the Flash's doomed-to-fail flirtations _funny._ Could he have been clued in a little sooner? Yes. Could he have remained oblivious for a few more episodes? *If* the first season had been longer so that the *obvious* moment where the plot needed him to catch on could have been delayed, then it is another "Yes." Those just don't find it funny, don't find it funny and I get that... but I don't think it *was* that serious. Wally's the flirtatious type with a one-track mind, at least in this area. *No one* in the group was treated as feeling seriously bothered by Wally's failed flirtations, most important being Ms. Martian or Conner. So no one thought it was worth breaking it to him until Artemis, and even at this point she may have had an ulterior motive (haven't watched this series for a few years, though I watched it through at least twice, maybe three or four times). Likewise, I have a feeling that this kind of disappointment is not unfamiliar to Wally, so an episode where he dwelled on it probably would have made it more confusing, not less.

Agreed completely. And Justice League Unlimited does this as well and it never gets this kind of flak. And it's not like any of the major villains aren't named. The series pushes the idea that you should do your own research. The series was made for DC fans. In addition I agree with you on kid flash. I personally didnt find it funny but I definitely thought that was him showing off his personality and it stuck. Not every character is a golden egg. But that shouldnt be criticism to the show itself.

@@kevinvu5432 An idea that I think could be worth a future video ( *winkwink* ), even if only to tell me how I'm wrong, is that I legitimately think that the Young Justice-style approach would have been a better way to handle the DCEU. Instead of trying to start from the beginning with Superman while having Batman be near the end of his career, you let the big names (even some general audiences probably wouldn't know) all have established histories... and take advantage of Robin being iconic enough to still be a comforting presence. Even several of the new (to general audiences) faces would have some familiarity because these are the *sidekicks* of heroes that _are_ at least somewhat known to general audiences. The Young Justice formula gives an in-story reason for explaining things general audiences would need to be explained about this hypothetical DCEU. Even the Young Justice pilot might be a plausible starting point for the film's script. Now, what if we restrict ourselves to the films that the DCEU actually used? Let's look at the Suicide Squad. Instead of that paint-by-numbers plot, let us give Amanda Waller more credit. The group isn't there to fight Superman. Instead, it has become clear that *other* nations are weaponizing superhumans and/or taking advantage of what they can do to pursue real-world methods of leverage (like a small nation suddenly becoming a nuclear power). Bialya is presented as a relatively *new* country; at first, no one believed the rumors that "Queen Bee" was manipulating folks with more than just mundane methods. Then the last black ops squad slammed into her metahuman enforcers (C-listers, to save the big names for bigger things). The Suicide Squad is being mobilized because they provide plausible deniability (supervillains being supervillains) but either they take out the enemies metahumans... or get taken out, saving the taxpayer from having to worry about them in the future. Maybe even establish this isn't the group's first rodeo; Captain Boomerang's milking of the Suicide Squad program has always struck me as a great plot-point.

Yes, imho Wally was portrayed at being in denial about Miss Martian's feelings for him. I think that, if she had made it clear that she wasn't interested in him, he would have stopped his flirtations sooner. For proof of that, when he was made aware of Superboy and Miss Martian's relationship, he was initially disapointed, like anyone that had a big crush on someone would have been in this situation, but he still accepted it and didn't act like an asshole, didn't blame Miss Martian or Superboy. And I don't recall Wally ever (or maybe once) taking his flirting too far. I found him to be corny but never vulgar about it. I also don't remember his flirtations being all that frequent, at least not as much as what this vid states.

DC always tried McGinnis poorly. They don't really know what do with Batman Beyond title.

Well done with the video. You sound much more confident in yourself. There were only 3 “droop offs” that I pointed out before. I only noticed them because I wanted to see how you would do. I doubt anyone else caught it. Sounding confident in yourself and with a consistent rhythm will keep more people’s attention in your videos. Keep getting better. :)

Thank you so much for finally covering this!! This has always been my favorite show, and although Wally has been and always will be my favorite character, I totally understand how he can be a bit grating 😅 I pretty much ignored the miss Martian thing as a kid tbh, but rewatching it the interactions were pretty annoying

My girlfriend used to hate comic books, super heroes villains etc.. And I showed her this show which changes just a bit from the comics so I trusted it to teach her a thing or two.. we saw both seasons in 4 days, she was so surprised bout how much she enjoyed it, loved the comedy drama romance, I would say Young Justice.. not only holds up, it is one of the greatest hero shows there has ever been

okey i am gonna jump and say right away my biggest problem here THE TIME SKIP you just CANT have such a big time skip with so much SHIT GOING ON INSIDE and expect us to just stay like "oh okayt mentioning it is just fine" robin becoming nightwing the death of beast boys mom wally and artemis becoming a couple (and leaving young justice) blue beetle joining THE BETRAYAL OF AQUA LAD superboy issues with him realizing that his body doesnt age properly and ending his relation with meg even though we later get explanations...... still feels........MEH i just dont feel that much from it at least in one piece we get a small peak at each crewmember before the time skip and it can be excused since its mostly them training

Using Tie in comics to fill in a story dosent work like it would've been better if they had a trailer for the tie in books after season 1 or 2 ended

Yes, and I can say so as I rewatched the first two seasons and I still enjoyed it as much as I did the first time. It even got really emotional near the end of the second season for obvious reasons, even though I already saw it many times.
