I haven't had a volume pedal on my pedalboard in almost a decade. But, I’ve noticed lately that it’s rare to find a traditional pedalboard user or even a modeler user without a volume pedal nowadays which has me wondering: do you need a volume pedal?
Today, I'm taking you on my journey with volume / expression pedals- My early experiences with volume pedals, where to place them in your pedal chain and we'll go over and demonstrate some common uses for volume/expression pedals including: swells, wah, pitch / whammy, mix control for Reverb, and more. And maybe most importantly, we'll answer the question: do you need a volume pedal? I find volume pedals useful for not only ambient texture tone but, depending where in the chain, they can act as a panic lever if something goes wrong. It saved my bacon a few times.

I've had the same Boss volume pedal since I was 16. That's like 32 years ago. It's held up pretty good! I think maybe it's time to upgrade.

Since I was a kid, I always wanted a Wah and a volume pedal. That's all I knew existed (my time predates the Internet - I think writing had barely been invented). A few millennia later, I finally have my Wah and Volume and came to realize that I'd rather have the pedal controlling something else instead of volume ¯\_(°°)_/¯ C’est la vie

A few millennia LOL! Yeah, having an expression pedal is oddly functional. I've never had an expression pedal on my board, but I definitely see the appeal!

You can definitely get by without one! But, it is nice convenience to have depending on what you’re doing-

@@JustinMuncy Hey....Sure. I find the volume pot on guitar more inportant....but for a different thing really, it s for tone. But yeah, for some styles, a volume pedal is necessary. Not my case. Take care man 😉
