Sorry for that. We had forgotten the right tool to take it out with. So we plugged up the hole and cranked the motor without fully starting the motor and it popped out

I use two drywall screws, a Philip screwdriver and a hammer. Tap in screws on the center of the metal ring with the hammer, drive them in a few turns with the screwdriver and pry out with the hammer,works for me every time.
