Fungus gnats will infest other plants so use this tip: 1 part hydrogen peroxide to 2 parts water and pour on soil. It will kill the eggs and larvae. This also works on root rot and and will also oxygenate the soil.

Thank you for this, my poor snake plant which is a baby i got maybe 2 months ago is dying doing exactly what you said dropping and all i was like ohemmgee oh no, now I know why there's a little leaf coming out and the bigger one is withering, now I know I'm over watering it, i water it on a schedule my poor baby. I'm going to take your advice and keep it dry. I don't have the other two issues I keep both my snake plants inside. My other one is thriving I even see new leaves coming in to but this one ugh my poor baby, makes me so sad I immediately got on youtube. So grateful I found your channel

I bought a snake plant and it was in a pot that was self watering and the soil was very wet. I transplanted it into a pot that, mind you has no drainage, but I did mix cactus and succulent soil with plant food and perlite and I transplanted it into that. I did see that some of the pots that were self watering had leaves that were already drowned and over watered, I've done that and I don't want that to happen with my new snake plant. Is transplanting it on dry well draining soil with perlite a good idea so that it stays alive? Or do I have to leave it out and wait until the roots dry out?

.. I water mine when I remember it.. This year happened 3 times already.. During summer it lives on my porch until the first night frost and being watered every week after sundown.. Last year it bloomed and nearly gave mee a heart attack, I had no idea it could actually bloom 😳🌞😀 i took a picture to prove it 'cause nobody would ever believe mee otherwise.. Oh boy was I so happy 🤭

My snakeplant was in terracotta pot n i watered it every 15 days. 2 leaves turned yellow from bottom and dried off. Checked its roots n its orange/brown but dry and brittle. I changed it to normal nursery pot n watered it. What could be the cause and should i do anything else? Also I had it by a north facing window on a shelf

My snake plant had 2 leaves with big black spots and seems to be spreading. So, leaving it without water didn’t help. I took it out of the soil and cleaned it with peroxide. The root system seems too small even for the larger part of the plant it was just one small root. What should I do now 😢 can i keep it in water to grow more roots or do i put it in new soil

Mine got some mushy spots on 1 of the leaf..my other snake plant got this spots after i let it outside on the porch..but this one i kept inside..so heartbroken as i've killed 3 of the expensive one..

Sweeney Jas I didn’t know what to do so I just let my plant be, gave it water now and then, put it in a place not too dark or too bright, and eventually it just grew new leaves and stopped splitting. Also it was a bundle of three so I split them up into different pots and put them where ever I want. I even got new sprouts. So I guess maybe when I first got it, the store wasn’t taking care of it properly. I still don’t know the exact reason why it did that but if you take care of it long enough, I’m sure it’ll be healthy and grow enough to the point you can cut off the damaged leaves!

I put my snake plant in glass vase and rocks with only water. Is it considered overwatering or will it survive?

Hi Mia Growing in water will work totally fine. This seems odd, but it has more to do with root oxygenation, than access to water. The roots need access to a balance of water and oxygen to survive. A vase of water will remain well oxygenated as the water circulates in the vase, and there is plenty of gas exchange between the water and the air. In soggy soil, water fills the air spaces in the soil, depriving the roots of access to oxygen. The roots use the available oxygen in the water, but as there is no circulation of the water, there is no ongoing supply of oxygen to the roots. Hope that helps. Andrew

My snake plant got ripped out and now it only has 1 root will it die or should i stick it in water so it can get more roots or should i just put it back in the soil. it has 3 tall stems

Hi Kim You can do either and it should grow new roots. I've found just planting back in soil to be more successful and faster than putting them in water.

My snake plant leaves started becoming soft on the top and it was wrinkled, I feel like it might have been affected by sun exposure..What can I do to fix the soft edges on the leaf? Thank you

Nashaya Shimry make sure it’s not in a south facing window. ( south facing are really hot) try not to put them on a window seal it really close to the window. make sure when you water then if they are in a really big pot then wait till about 4-5 inches down in the soil is dry. if it’s been over a year since you got the plant try repotting it could be rootbound. i hope this helped if these dont work then i would go to your local garden center and ask about it

I've killed all my Late Father's plants (including the snake plants.) I think it WAS over watering. I also had one near the front door window. Carpenter ants come in through there, but I don't know if they could have hurt it. Also, there's a floor vent near there, that blows cold/hot air (depending on the season.) I'd leave that vent closed, if I had to do it over again.

I have a couple of snake plants in my living room. I take it out to water it thoroughly once every 2 weeks. Once I take it back in the living room, I notice that the leaves start to droop or the plant has root rot. The leaves rot one after the other until sometimes the plant dies. |So, I keep replacing it with a new potted plant. What am I doing wrong?

Remember they like it warm and dry most of the time, watering thoroughly is okay just make sure the soil drains well and make sure to let the soil get dry and crispy. The sooner it dries after watering the better, so less compacted soil with some bark or small stones helps. The more the soil is ventilated and able to breathe the quicker it will dry. Terracotta pots also breathe and help dry the soil quicker than glazed and plastic do. And to put into perspective how little they should be watered, only 6 times or less in the 6 months around summer, and only once or twice in the 6 months around winter. Keep the plant inside in winter like this guy mentioned. Hope that helps :)

Didnt water mine for 2 weeks and all YT plant people said it ll be ok, well i came home from vacation and it has a yellow dry leaf. 🙄 idk if it hates me or wth, but it is the weirest plant Ive ever had
