Is your Swimming Pool Spa Air Blower Too Strong? Here's a Fix! - Chlorine King
In this video I show you a quick and very effective fix if your spa air blower is too strong. It's not a difficult process, but will surely allow you to fine tune the air blower to your spa for your desired pressure.
In this specific situation I replaced a 2HP blower with the appropriate 1HP equivalent and it was still too much pressure for the clients. So I installed this 3 way to divert some of the water. Now they can really put it to their perfect pressure.

I have the same problem - thanks for posting this! I had a 2HP for 6 jets and 100' run, I burnt the motor out by reducing some of the nozzle sizes, the water pressure is OK not great now but must have created too much pressure. If I replaced with 1.5HP do you think that would do the trick?

Do they make a variable speed blower that can be controlled with the pools software? Seems like that's the best of all worlds .

It’s a good idea and I did that but I cannot stand the loud noise from the air that’s coming out of the open pipe .. I kinda made a silencer on the end of the air pipe by wrapping it with some foam or even a towel . Replaced it too with a smaller motor but the motor was so loud .. maybe im gonna try the 1hp qt motor which supposedly is quieter and probably just right about of push I need

You solve one problem and create another. I was fortunate to find a very inexpensive 3 way and PVC parts are not costly at HD. I also built a silencer with PVC pieces (I post it some day)and was able to route it into my existing swim out jets which doesn’t use a blower. Moral of the story find the right blower for your spa.

Great video. I am now able to control the output to my spa blower and bubbles. What are some ideas on quieting the outlet pipe? Do you know of an air suppressor of some sort? My idea is to reroute outlet pipe down and toward front of house maybe through to garage.

Did it work? Wondering if that would create noise or whistling? My equipment is very close to spa. Replaced blower with the Silencer shown in video which was 100% improvement in noise but don’t want to create new noise problem with diverter or new pipe noise. Diverter in video seems kinda loud.

@@ChlorineKingPoolService I don't have a powered blower. I have a little screw top air release that, when open, is supposed to let some air into the returns giving it some bubbly effect. I fixed a couple returns that weren't installed correctly so water no longer comes out of the valve, but now when opening that same air "bleeder" valve I get no bubbles. Hooked a shop vac up and blew air into the lines and that worked fine but obviously not a permanent solution. Any idea what could cause this? Is it difficult to install silencer after pool equipment is already in? We had no idea we wouldn't be provided one when getting this pool.

Really all you can do is get a larger blower. Just make sure you read up on the sizing requirements so you don't put too powerful of a blower on it. Then you'll overheat it and cause it to hit the thermal overload protection.

I tried this solution; it worked. However, the air release from the 3 way valve is too noisy. Is there anything i can do regarding the air noise. My Pool/SPA has 5 return jets; 1.5 hp blower. I tried reducing the eyeball jet from 1 inch to 1/2 inch. It worked like 5 minutes and then the blower shut off; overheating. A pool specialist told me never to do this as it can damage the plumbing, the increase air pressure. I did have the SPA return line 1/2 way open while the other 1/2 return line goes to the main pool. Booster pump was on. If it is too powerful, have i reached a dead end. Do i need to downgrade to 1 hp. The equipment is not too far from SPA.
@ChlorineKingPoolService
@ChlorineKingPoolService 4 жыл бұрын
Yea reducing the fittings will cause the blower to overheat because of the restriction in airflow. Check the manual on the blower. With that few of returns you may need to downgrade to a 1HP. Generally a good rule of thumb is 1/4HP per jet, but if you're trying to calm it down you may be better off with a 1HP. As far as the sound it is probably open at the perfect position to cause a whistling sound across the diverter o-ring, if that makes sense.

@ChlorineKingPoolService
@ChlorineKingPoolService Жыл бұрын
Yes the blower should always sit above the spa water level. Most blowers recommend a foot or two and it’s always a good idea to put a blower specific check valve in place. This all ideally prevents water intrusion to the blower. Hope this helps.

You should never be getting water up the blower standpipe. It should be well above the waterline, optimally with a hartford loop and a check valve (light spring & ball, meant for air) inline. See the plumbing instructions for this very blower here: www.airsupplyflorida.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/installation-guide.pdf

Wait a second. I’ve been in pool repair 11 yrs commercial and residential. Blowers only make that mess when the either jet pump isn’t on ( if it has one)or the spa jet valve isn’t open. I understand down grading blower. Rule of thumb is 1/4 hp per jet. If you have jet line open the water would make its way to center of spa. Without jets open blower blows after close to wall and makes a mess. I have videos and pictures to prove this.

Thanks for the comment. This system did not have a spa jet pump, and both of the spa return lines were open during this entire video. So the only option was to add a way to purge the line so not a full volume of air made it to the spa. I didn’t build/install the plumbing for the blower. Just working with what is there. Have a great day.
