I was rather disappointed how they changed the tone of the series completely and removed the comedy entirely. This is the type of "humour" that you find just the sam in the original Star Trek series. But the genuine Seth McFarlane comedy disappeared completely. They rather dealt with rather serious social and contemporary issues and social subtext, or focussed on story telling and drama, but comedy was no longer part of it. I wonder what the drivers were behind that decision. May be the humour was no longer sustainable. Does anyone know why?

@@omnivorous65It was so weird how that Family Guy comedy disappeared. But I think the show actually got better and was more like Star Trek TNG. If it came out the gate like this it probably would have been criticized as being a Star Trek TNG rip off. The Seth comedy set it apart from Star Trek. But once everyone was hooked season three was basically Star Trek. But not Star Trek. I know it makes no sense. But it’s entertaining as hell.

So funny story my Dad ones told me about an friend of his: They were stopping at a bar which just happened to be a place a group of bikers liked to hang out. Supposedly rather nice guys but build and dressed like you think bikers look like. Now those bikers had an armwrestling competition going on when my dad and his friend were there and said friend asked if he can join. Two things according, to my dad: The friend was private rather soft spoken and outside his job he usually looked like an average desk worker. After he had beaten the bikers he revealed what his job was: He was a surgeon. More specific one specialized in heart surgery. How did this help him win in arm wrestling? Well in order to work on the heart a surgeon has to cut open the ripcage of the patient and push the bones aside. And a human ripcage isn't exactly made of jello. The bikers took at like sportsman and with humor by the way.

@@mikelheron20 Of course they don't have someone standing there holding the rib cage open during the entire operation. But there is still alot you have to do with your hand. inclouding going with your finger under the sternum toremove the connective tissue befor you even can cut the rip cage itself. And after the cut someone has to spread the bones enough so you can actually put the rip spreader in place. Of course, how (relatively) easy or hard it is to do that depends on where and what is operated on and how the cut has to be applied.

Just added The Orville to my queue based on this scene and all the great comments. McFarlane is a genius, not sure why the show never crossed my path.

Cromartie High School said it the best (even if it was Wrong Genre Savy in that case). This nerdy kid accidentally ends up in the roughest delinquent high school. But one of them watches him for a bit and says what amounts to “when you see a bunny that goes into the lions den… that must be one super bad ass bunny.” He actually was just a nerd with a good poker face but it was still a great statement on the trope.

Those were NOT Screaming Eagle V-Rods that they were riding. Couldn't get a good look, might have been Sportsters, maybe a Dynas! But definitely not V-Rods! As Jack Reacher says, "It's all in the details!".
