Something that doesn't get mentioned enough is the symbolism of when Luffy bows his head. When he bows, his straw hat falls off, showing he is willing to give up his dreams to save the ones who saved him.

I really love how the slave brand recontextualizes so much about Arlong and his crew. They too were once property for the World Nobles,and the hate and prejudice they experienced under their heel is what eventually led them to be just as cruel as their captors towards Nami's people. It makes that entire arc so much sadder and deeper once you realize that all these people have been victim to the cycle of suffering.

boa’s backstory still makes me literally tremble to this day, not just because we’ve just seen a glimpse of how slaves are treated in the Sabaody arc, but because of the very relatable real world implications of her story as a beautiful woman in the hands of abusive people in authority. the saddest backstories in one piece thus far-nami’s, chopper’s, franky’s, robin’s, and brook’s all hit REALLY hard, but they almost never happen to anyone in the real world, but i can say that aspects of Boa and her sisters’ abuse speak viscerally to a lot of women in reality. it doesn’t just make me cry, it makes me literally shake and get flashbacks. and i’m not excusing Boa’s outward terrible attitude, but it makes sense why she has such a cold, hard, and huge wall towards everyone of all genders and species. and it’s also SO realistic how despite her external coldness, she still internally sees herself as dirty and tainted, that’s why she is unable to come upfront to her own tribe and be honest about the mark. i too would be scared to trust anyone to at that point. in amazon lily, strength is beauty, and she’s nit ready to come forward and tell her tribe she had been a powerless slave who wasn’t even able to protect herself and her younger siblings. and it also makes sense why she now puts so much power into her beauty in order to get away with what she wants, like she’s using the very thing that made her so attractive to abusers-the thing that possibly caused a lot of her mistreatment-and turning it to her own advantage. her backstory is underrated because it’s executed in a way that doesn’t explicity show anything in as much detail as the other backstories.

The real awful thing to consider here: Hancock is the oldest of the Boa sisters. If she was 12, then Sandersonia and Marigold were even younger than that. 10:07 - There IS something of a trend among the Warlords in that many of them had some kind of trauma 17:24 - It is not a dumb question, as you will be getting an answer before too long.

Hancock and her sisters backstory is especially harrowing when you consider that the Kuja are renowned for being the most beautiful women in the world with no contact with men. So what were the nobles doing to them? It’s not said outright, but the implication is that they were routinely raped and used as sex slaves for entertainment. All when under the age of 18. The Celestial Dragons are truly sick.

The world building is immaculate, I love it so much I love the fact that if he didn't think ahead for something he at least knows or references past events while he builds the story so that way everything stays connected it makes the world feel a lot more concrete than something like Dragon Ball where we get something random out of nowhere because we're dealing with aliens and space stuff you can just make up a planet and a whole new species like that but with one piece it's all confined to the planet and the events currently happening (unless you are Enel and get sent to the moon), and I can't wait for you to catch up, I know it'll take quite a while but the weight is well worth it

This arc really puts enohasis on how while Luffy isn't academically smart he is very intelligent on social behaviors and specially emotional intelligence Luffy was more than ready to have Boa stop talking because he quickly picked up on how the memories made her and her sisters feel, not to mention how he priotized Margaret and the others lver having a ship Luffy may not know how to do math But he knows how to read people like a book, he is an empath and takes people very seriously when he notices it's needed
