Isaiah Thomas of the Detroit Pistons in the 1988 NBA Finals took his game to amazing heights.
Game 6 vs Magic Johnson & the L.A Lakers, Isaiah (Zeek) showed Incredible Leadership & Heart after a Career threatening injury... Comes back and drops 25pts in the 3rd quater.

@@rafikz77 saw In 78 Aguirre. Cummings Thomas. Doc. At provisio west thanksgiving tourney. Aguirre was 6 7 chubby with soft hands and had use of both hands. Also could score of glass just cause he could. Cumming raws but still 6 8 230 as jr. Thomas was just downright scary. Year older than me 5 10. 150. When coach let him go at end of Semi game it was a kid schooling the big kids. Only guy like him to play pro IVERSON. Both had only 1 fault Consitant jumper. But when they got hot. Unstoppable. Both could blow by. Go to rim. Iverson to glass. Thimas with glide to finish.

35 years removed from this game, I cannot see this man, at the pinnacle of his sport, knowing that upbringing, and not lose my shit that on the biggest night of his basketball career, a Championship is taken from him. Hobbling up and down the court, focused, determined. Jack McCloskey, in the myriad of retrospectives on this team, once said "the things he had inside him are not prevelant in this sport, or in any profession." I don't care if it's the will to go when they tell you to stop, I don't care if it's because you didn't have a car and you walked 30 miles every day, or that you had an abuser and you refuse to let them run your life, it is one of the truest blessings in this world to see a person with the heart and character to continue when the bridge is taken, the battle overwhelms you, and you still fight to the bitter end. You can cry in Sacramento about Game 6 in 2002. You can cry about how the Jaliblazers and Pacers got robbed by circumstances...that's the ordinary. The extraordinary is to feel that kind of failure and never waiver in resolve. You keep your post. You keep hope. You make them torture you until you are dead. You never break, or change, or yield. That's toughness.

Dude went crazy that 3rd quarter as Lakers fan watch him destroy my team.We barely won game 103-102 in game 6 of 1988 NBA Finals.But we would repeat game 7 winning chip 108-105 because of great game by James Worthy he was incredible.Isiah earned my respect this game

Really puts into perspective how soft the players are today. Not trying to be a "old head" even though I am. But you don't see individual toughness from players like Isiah put on display here. Not talking bout era's or hard fouls. I'm talking about grit and wanting to win at all cost.

Nobody gives IT the respect he deserves and it is because of MJ's hate towards him. Also, MJ beat a hobbled Isiah Thomas in 1991. He missed a large number of games and had surgery on his wrist the summer 1990. He was nowhere near 100% that season.
@goatness2326
@goatness2326 Жыл бұрын
MJ didn't like Zeek.... But He always admits that Zeek is no.2 point guard of all time. If you think about it, it's the media that did Zeek wrong. I always got love for Week, even tho I'm a Jordan fan .👌 The Bad Boys Should have 3 Peated, they should have won in 1988🤔
@johnwatson6181
@johnwatson6181 Жыл бұрын
@@goatness2326 I know MJ gave him props for his talent. I'd say the media did the whole Pistons team wrong. IT has said MJ and Phil Jackson did have a press conference and call the Pistons bad for basketball and undeserving champions. This is true, it happened before game 4 ECF. Then he is supposed to congratulate them for winning? Most Jordan fans have ran with that and will not think outside Michael's statements, yours is a rare outside the box view. I respect Jordan's game, he is the GOAT, LeBron got nothing on him but in this case they both need to come together and say they were both wrong and let it go. I think even the 1988 Lakers know the Pistons should have won.
