All that matters in ball handling is whether you can change direction quickly and protect the ball. Isiah could do both of those things as well or better than any player past or present. People in this comment section seem to think that aesthetic style has actual value, lol

Isiah's team leadership was legendary. Little 5-11 guided the Champion Pistons ship during the golden age of the NBA. @@allenmoses110 “they would have beaten Pistol and Doc” well they didn’t so… Idk exactly what you consider a prime Celtics team but the 86 Celtics were the best Celtics which was before the bad boys era. The 87 Celtics, who were injured, the Bad Boys lost to. In 88 the Celtics were a step down but maybe you could take that one. In the 88 finals the Lakers on the season were a prime team but they only had Magic for 2 games in the finals so I wouldn’t consider that “beating prime Lakers”. 89 Celtics were definitely not prime Celtics and didn’t have Bird in the playoffs or for most of the season. The Bulls just definitely weren’t a prime Bulls team.

People on here criticising the way ball handling was in comparison to today's, but that's such a silly argument. You need to consider the system played by both eras, this one in particular was pretty strict on the fundamental side of basketball, you couldn't palm the ball or drag it like you do these days. Understand that the development of the game began in this era, shortly after Dr J's retirement you started to see a radical shift in how players handled the ball. But you have to pay homage to a guy that started it all for us now, many of our own moves come from this guy right here, he was the original contemporary ballhandler in the NBA.

Zeke is one of the Godfathers of handles, there is no Iverson, Tim Hardaway etc with Isiah Thomas. Isiah Handles were fundamental, never picking up the ball and carrying like most of today's players, also didn't need to dribble 15-20 times to get by his man. Quick, legal and very efficient balhandling.

Everyone from Tim Hardaway and before had their hand on top of the ball even guys from the NYC area after like Marbury used that form of dribbling. Iverson learned the DC crossover after getting abused with it repeatedly. Curt Smith, Moochie Norris and Walt Williams used it too but the most well known players to use it was Steve Francis and Iverson. The dude wit the best handles from Chicago is Imari Sawyer

As far as that 1985 all-star game, I have that on DVR and have watched it; when you look at that game, everyone played team ball except Jordan and Isiah moved the ball like he had always moved the ball. You can tell Jordan was out of place and it's not like Isiah had to go out of his way to please a rookie. There was a pecking order back in the day where rookies had to earn their way but Isiah moved the ball to everyone, made shots, and Jordan had a bad game. Just watch the game objectively.

I've never seen KP get humiliated before because he always defended well on tough players.

All professional sports are fixed, you are a customer (as am I) so we aren't allowed to know how it's fixed. It's like if you have a business, business plan, product, and security forces - nothing doesn't go how you don't want it to go because you are in charge. The players, coaches, and media do wat you want. It's like a movie, play, sit-com, book, circus - everything is already finished before customers (fans) see it play out and everyone is in on it for the purpose of the business.

So Jordan was the one that couldn't beat Detroit from 1988-1990 throughout the regular season and playoffs so he complained and got Rod Thorne, who was in charge of fines and rule changes then, to change those rules. The problem I have is that Rod Thorne drafted Jordan and the NBA wanted to institute rules to enable Chicago's style-of-play while taking away from Detroit's style-of-play. Why? Because the NBA just signed a new contract with NBC and Zeke was beating Jordan 3 straight years....

Dennis Rodman is in the HOF without ever wanting or needing to score the basketball. If you can make the HOF doing that then it shows how great you are; you put that guy with a handle and a jumper with 70% from the line and you get 2 more rings easily; especially with his experience and poise. Remember, he was always on the court during crunch time in Detroit (as a bench player) and in Chicago; so the man was clutch and trusted when it mattered most.

It was a protest of the NBA fixing the ECF making Jordan win and Isiah, President of Players Association forfeit that series. Look who shook hands: Dumars (now GM of Pistons), Salley (played for '96 Bulls), and Rodman wrote a letter to Pippen apologizing (joined 1996-1998 Bulls). Daly was Olympic coach. Everyone was rewarded for kissing Jordan's behind.

Finals); Lakers 1988 (Finals) and won back to back in 1989 and in 1990. In 1991-92, the Pistons organization didn't bring back Vinnie Johnson and James Edwards, that's why they couldn't compete for a ring again, then in 1992 Chuck Daly left. So that would be like Jordan losing two of the top 8 guys in their rotation plus Phil Jackson then expected to win.....

You said it yourself: It's basketball, not work or lunch. Isn't this their job? Oh, but it's basketball which means it's a game which means it can be manipulated if you are highly skilled and physically imposing enough, which is what these players are, which is why they are drafted to toy with the game and to make things go how they desire. You are assuming they don't know, they aren't paid that much $ to play ball, they are paid that much to do their jobs, which is already designed and planned.

However, on the court he was one of the meanest, nastiest guys out, not just in a bad way, he would light up anyone and wouldn't give a rat's ass however someone thought of him. Yes 4 rings and I can prove it. They have 2 and should have had 1988 and most likely would have won in 1991 because Worm could have handled the ball and created his own shot shooting a solid percentage taking the pressure off of Thomas and Dumars - Chicago couldn't play 5 on 4. It's like Pippen's ability plus the rebounding but Worm wasn't scared nor passive with anything he did as Scottie was. Plus in 1992 he led the NBA in rebounding (18 per) with scoring? Please! Worm never wanted to score.

What urks me about the Pistons (even though I know it was fixed) were 3 things: 1. The Pistons never competed in the 1991 ECF. 2. Detroit never picked up Mahorn in 1992 when he was available; nor did they re-sign Vinnie Johnson and James Edwards for those seasons. 3. Rodman and Salley never developed their skills. Had Rodman been able to handle the ball and shoot a 15-20 footer Detroit would have 4 rings. Salley never had a post game nor developed one, which was sickening.

You just said it, if the Bulls could dismantle them then who is really controlling things and how? If the Bulls could do it, then they are running things. How? Why? Because they have the #1 moneymaker with power (Jordan) and it's designed for them to win. I don't nor have I ever cared about this modern era of basketball. Ever since 1991, the game itself has suffered and become soft. No good basketball has come since; just marketing pawns and 'be like Mike' sicophants. Great job NBA!

Isiah wouldn't sell out so he wound up injured with surgery to his wrist in 1991. Either they made him fake an injury or someone roughed him up for that year. I personally believe they told him to sit out because Isiah is tough from the West Side of Chicago with a crew. So owners most likely told him to sit out missing 34 games and guess what? After beating Chicago 3 straight years the Bulls magically swept Detroit. Wow! Why do you think Zeke and the Pistons walked off in '91? It was a protest.

First of all this was in the late 80's; the Pistons became a physical team from 1987-1991, that was their ECF/NBA Finals' run. The reason why the game is soft today is because Jordan, and Jordan alone complained about the physical nature of the Pistons. Bird and Magic never complained, just Jordan. So Jordan got his connections in the league office to implement the 'flagrant foul' rule which penalized hard fouls giving you two shots and the ball and possible ejections. Only Jordan had a beef.

Isiah led the walk-off and he was left off the Olympic Team and what happened in those spots where Zeke was? In Toronto the owners left him out to dry selling their shares of the team and Isiah was left holding the bag. In Indiana he coached a young team into a playoff contender and got the shaft after Bird took over as GM. So he goes to the Knicks and purposely messes up the Knicks becasue of what happened to him in Toronto/Indiana so he wanted to get back at Stern so he destroyed that team.

If someone is paying you to do anything it's very clear that they are paying you because they feel/know you can do what they want/desire. It also means you are paid for a designed service/agreement, which is why you have a contract so if you violate those terms you can get sued. Why do you think players have to get it written that they can play during the off season or not allowed to play competitively during the off season? Because they are owned to play the game - they do what they are told.

All you have to do is look at ESPN's First Take for Tuesday, August 14, 2012 where John Salley, Marcellus Wiley, Rob Parker, and Skip Bayless were talking about Jordan/LeBron and Salley told everyone how the Pistons were dismanteled by the NBA itself. He's telling you the league made it their point to destroy the Pistons so Jordan could win. Enough said.

This is big business, not some pickup game. Let me ask you this: When you purchase a product from the store, is that fixed? Fixed price, fixed rate, and the product sold is fixed how you want, which is why you buy it. But guess what? Fans don't own pro sports so it's going to go how owners want it. Just like a play, book, sit-com, movie script - it's all defined and finished before you read the book or watch the film. Everyone is in on it helping each other win - the losers do it on purpose.

1979-1991 = 12 seasons, 9 of which you play into June; but there's no wear-and-tear on Magic, sure Magic can't get old and tired because he's Magic, right? No Kareem, no Cooper (their best perimeter defender). Magic carried the load to the NBA Finals. Let's see Jordan in his 12th year without Pippen (great perimeter defender) and no center carry a team to the NBA Finals - he can't. The reason why people say it was Jordan's time is because it was fixed for that certain time period. Magic gaveitup

I can't afford courtside seats and to be honest, I would never and would have never paid to see a game in the 90's or even today. In the 80's if I could afford it, yes, but not now - the talent sucks compared to the past. I doubt if you have any idea of whether or not professional sports are fixed. Forget belief, I'm talking actual reality of merely how things are supposed to go and if you are ultra talented to the point where you can toy with the game itself - that's why they are professionals.

It's a great game but it is the circus. When you go to the circus, it's not real. If you want to believe it's all real then go ahead. It's just a good play and entertainment but you are right, entertainment is never fixed and nobody has ever and will ever fix any sporting event. Businesses are never fixed to produce a certain result towards customers or certain demographics and pro athletes never lie or say what people want to hear for money or fame. It's all real because women never lie. See?

Yes, the NBA wanted to usher in the 90's with Jordan winning because they just signed a new TV deal with NBC (1990-91). Isiah was President of the Players Association so he fought to make sure players got more TV revenue and agents less % of player contracts, plus he's beating Jordan 3 straight years; so Isiah wasn't on the NBA's good side. They forced Zeke to miss 34 games in 1990-91 and throw the ECF that year, which is why Zeke, Laimbeer and Aguirre walked off the court in protest.

Detroit was better and the NBA just signed a new TV contract with NBC so they wanted Jordan to win to usher in the 90's. The Pistons (particularly Isiah) was told to throw that series which is why he missed 34 games with "a wrist" injury. Either Zeke was faking it or someone got to him but either way he missed 34 games and came back partially not playing as aggressively in 1991 as in 1990 (look at the film yourself). Detroit lost Mahorn in June of 1989 and won without 'Horn (1989-90).

Once again a vain accusation. It's pro sports and it's business so there's nothing sinister going on. If you are in business with 20 other biillionaires then you have an objective and everything is detailed and organized. Of course all the athletes are great at what they do - that's why they are drafted; the key is they are paid to play their roles for business practices. You fix a sandwhich, you fix the sink, you fix your car - it's not a set up, it's a function and each component has its parts

@@kisuryouri334 No you stop. Chris paul is a beast. I say it's very close in terms of ball handling. Isiah is shifty, but Chris Paul has him beat in that area. Not by a lot though. However, Isiah Thomas is more explosive with his crossover based on athleticism getting to the room. Isiah is also more physical and stronger with his dribble, which is a very important aspect of ballhandling too.

@@kisuryouri334 So Jordan Fletcher is not off at all in his comparison between Chris Paul and Isiah. I would not say Isiah has the best handle ever though because you have Kyrie, Jay Will, Skip, Crawford, Francis, Iverson, Marbury, Tinsley, Pistol Pete etc. Isiah and Kyrie I believe are the most efficient with their dribbling in terms of putting themselves and teammates in positions to score.

You can't lose 2 of your top 8 guys - both scorers and expect to win. Now Chicago can replace a guy like Armstrong, Grant, or even Cartwright because those guys did nothing anyway, but who did Jordan need to win his last 3 chips? Rodman. Gee, I wonder why? Plus the Bulls organization would replace one part with the same part just younger - Longley for Cartwright/Kerr for Armstrong/Rodman for Grant then they got the best Euro player in the game (Kukoc). So stop it. Jordan was carried.

The NBA wanted Jordan to win; they never changed the rules to enable Magic, Bird, or Isiah to win, why Jordan? You know why? Because he was making too much $ for the league and Isiah was President of the Players Association so he fought Stern and owners over TV revenue and having agents to get less % of player contracts. So the NBA never liked Isiah because he was a thorn in the side of the owners an he's beating their #1 cash cow (Jordan) every year. Isiah wouldn't sell out so he got injured...
