Americans have perfected the art of talking a lot without saying a thing.

That is an international phenomenon. Mainly by hip young people. They also like to invent new words without knowing the existing ones.

There's a couple of phrases like in arabic too. Its usually a preface when you're giving a negative answer or when you're telling them you're not qualified to answer the question. Alot of people lie because they hate saying "i don't know". Its not a sinister reason, just low self esteem.
@mmo53662 ай бұрын
Like around here people often say “No Problem” when asked a question or after having done a favour and being thanked. Most people know it just means “You’re welcome,” but now and then someone will still look slightly affronted and say, “Why would it have been a problem?” 😂
@user-rq7hv6lf8c2 ай бұрын
Often thought exactly the same thing: (If your threshold for problems are THAT low, than I better avoid it to demand ANYTHING from you.)...but I don't say it out loud.
@musMiro2 ай бұрын
Because for some foreigners it may be strange to use "You are welcome". It doesn't translate well to some other languages. Many languages use word like "please", but you don't use it like that.. So for someone, who is not native English speaker "no problem" might sound better, than "you are welcome".
@benkalem2 ай бұрын
The difference between "you're welcome" and "no problem" is that the former implies you having gone through some trouble to accommodate the other person, while the latter statement means you didn't even consider it to be worth mentioning. For the younger generation, a certain degree of kindness is the default expectation, not something extra you give out, like it used to be with the older generations.
@Cudi-rh5cj8 сағат бұрын
Say "my pleasures" or "don't worry about that" instead. It translates very well to most languages

In London (UK) slang there's a phrase "I can't lie". I always want to tell them "no, but you can lie!!"

@wj6im "To be fair..." 🥺 Yes, please... 😂 Now I'm trying to find such expressions in my native language, Swedish. One is not exactly in line with these, but close enough "Sanningen är..." which equates to "The truth is...". Just a very bold claim to know with absolute certainty.

@@nilsp9426 Correct. "To be honest" even shows some empathy because you're acknowledging that what you're saying might be taken with some incredulity otherwise. "Not gonna lie" shows more surprise on your own side. Both add semantical meaning to what you're saying.
