In this video I go over isolating and draining down a Vaillant Ecotec Boiler so you can then go on to do a repair.

Just wanted to know do you have to put it on purge mode once filled up?to get any air out?
@advancedboilertraining3 жыл бұрын
Hey Razz, yeah it’s recommended that if you drain down the boiler for any reason at all, then once filled up, put it into purge mode to get out any air that might be in the boiler

is it the central heating flow and return you are emptying

Would I do this, if it’s a system boiler? Just isolate boiler , I don’t need to isolate the cylinder?

4mm Allen key and an 8mm rachet spanner makes drain down on them nice and easy 👌 do you use the mid position mode on these while drain and refilling?
@advancedboilertraining3 жыл бұрын
I keep telling myself I’m going to buy a 8mm ratchet but I never get round to it 😂 just placed my order 👍 & Na not really. Have you found it’s worth doing on draining down?
@rodknee873 жыл бұрын
@@advancedboilertraining wera ratchets spanners are good, but iv got a flexi head set from Aldi that are spot on! I don't use the mid position mode tbh, just heard from others that it's better for boiler
@mynameis97393 жыл бұрын
@@advancedboilertraining you will love it when you get the ratchet no more faffing about with a spanner 😂

How much water do you expect to come out of the isolated boiler? Mine keeps running, like one of the valves is leaking or such.
@randomvids13702 жыл бұрын
How do u know when they’re isolated???
@tomstrutton43513 жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t be touching them valves.... risking them leaking
@advancedboilertraining3 жыл бұрын
Yeah it can happen but it’s part of the process. You could leave them open but then you’d be draining more than just the boiler, which takes more time.
@tomstrutton43513 жыл бұрын
@@advancedboilertraining I’d rather take the time to vent a few rads than have to replace those leaking isolation valves.... they’re expensive an all. You’ve got less chance of them leaking if you get the pressure down to 0 then use the valves, still a risk though.

Tom Strutton Fair enough, every engineer is different. There’s always multiple ways to do one thing 👍

I'd have isolated the bottom of the magnetic filter and connected a washing machine hose to the bottom. Pump the vessel. If the boiler's at the highest point of the system you don't have to worry about shutting the valves off. The whole principle of showing the boiler isolated and drained this way. Is because it's the manufacturers instructions state this method. Like they say " there are many ways to skin a cat ". We all have our methods . Excellent tutorial bro👍
@advancedboilertraining3 жыл бұрын
@@rayc1503 ^^ exactly that, if it works, it works 🤷♂️😂 always multiple ways to do certain things. Some ways are faster, slower, riskier, etc. Always comes down to what tools the engineer has available and their risk tolerance
