This was much different for Izzy. It wasn’t like his loss to Alex where he was actually winning a large portion of their first fight but got caught. This was a dismantling.

I think everyone has judged Sean for his odd upright style with lack of head movement, but man he put on a masterclass in using a high guard and parries for effective defense. There were several moments where he used a parry with the lead hand to set up the 2 as well. His constant pressure was amazing, but ultimately defense is what allowed him to win that fight.

Well he didn't handle that very well. A tough loss and a bitter pill to swallow. Never in a million years did he think someone like Sean Strickland could beat him all over the octagon from pillar to post. You could tell the way Sean Strickland ended the fight trying to engage Izzy in a war truly broke his spirit. Sean was screaming and raging while coming forward in that last minute of the fight and all Izzy could do was smile from the embarrassment. He was humiliated and put too shame. You can see his spirit is shattered the way he ran out of the octagon and out of the post fight interview. Kids probably crying his eyes out in a bathroom somewhere.

Izzy isnt really interested in a rematch like how he was when he lost to alex. If he fights Strickland again and loses, his carrer will be over. I think he knows this too

Im genuinely shocked not because Strickland won but because i have never seen the philly shell be used in mma outside of boxing. Its a great technique but i assumed with the added kicks and watching out for takedowns it wouldn't be as useful but Strickland masterfully incorporated it and had some of the best defense i have ever seen. He literally blocked dodged or parried like 80% of punches izzy threw.

I believe his vices have finally caught up with him... The dude obviously has problems, and that's okay; many people do, especially in the age of the internet and social media. However, I despise it when people attempt to portray their vices as virtues. The reason I've always preferred Sean over him is because Sean is honest with himself and others. He's the first to admit when he can be a POS. These are the same reasons I don't like people like Sean O'Malley or Ian Garry, etc. They tend to shape their values based on convenience, rather than genuinely reflecting on the right way to act. I think deep down, he agrees with Sean and resents himself for it. All Sean needed to do was expose the skeletons in his closet, and his mental state crumbled. I hope that someday he can drop the act and stop trying so hard to come off as cool or perfect. There are aspects of his personality that I genuinely appreciate, such as his camaraderie and loyalty to his teammates like Hooker and Volk.

Fighters who arent too afraid of Izzy striking will do good against him. Costa, Rob , yoel all were too afraid of Izzy striking thats why Izzy out stroke them from range but fighter like Alex and Sean really pushed the pace against Izzy and Izzy couldnt start his low kicks and later lost to pressure. Even 2nd fight against Alex was looking pretty bad for Izzy until the knockout happen. Izzy should have gone Zombie mode on last round cause he had lost on decision .

Sean fought as a very disciplined and patient fighter. Congrats to him. Izzy didn’t adapt his style. If he were better on the ground, he could have taken the fight there. The sport is called MMA for a reason. You need a rounded skill set to weather the storm. You can take the Chinese champion Wei Li mixing it up against Brazilian Amanda Lemos. But don’t forget, many champions have lost in 2023. It’s the year of the underdogs.
