I got to hear him in concert when I was in 11th grade in high school. After the concert he came down and mingled with the crowd. He was such a sweet guy. The next year he died. When my parents told me, I cried.

The Ukulele is the Instrument IZ played, Its his ashes they are pouring into the sea toward the end. Lovely soothing voice and sweet on that Ukulele. Good reaction ladies.

He still lives in Hawaii. He is beloved by everyone who hears his voice. I hear him on the radio all the time when I visit the great state of Hawaii!

IZ is an inspiration and was loved by all. I was at Makua when they spread his ashes from the Hokule'a. Cars stopped along the 2 lane road leading to Ka'ena bringing traffic to a stand-still. Hundreds of people were wading in the water and hundreds more were on land. A procession of big rigs blew and held their horns echoing through the valley while his ashes were placed into the ocean making it sound as if the State of Hawaii was crying . . . it's a moment I will never forget. An incredible celebration of life for an incredible man!!

I would highly recommend listening to Eva Cassidy's version of this song. Both she and Israel managed something very rare which is take a cover and truly make it their own. Both versions though very different are equally amazing!!!

The ukulele is a Portuguese instrument called a port au braga, and was renamed by Hawaiians. uku being "flea" and lele "leaping" due to the motion of the hand while playing. In Hawaiian W is V. So it's Kamaka (kah mah kah) vivo (veevo) ole (olay). The canoe they poured IZ's ashes from is the famous Hokulea, which has sailed all over the world.

Bruddah Iz's rendition of Somewhere Over The Rainbow is my favorite cover. My #1 favorite rendition of the song comes from the movie The Wizard Of Oz, made famous by the late, great, incomparable Judy Garland.

There are a lot of "reaction videos" to this IZZY video. Time and again, the young female youTubers totally miss that this video was a memorial to him and that the final "party" was actually his funeral memorial in which hundreds of his loving fans came out in boats to celebrate his life as his ashes were being poured into the sea. This "cluelessness" seems to be a pattern. The middle aged and older youTubers get it right away.
