Israeli Director of "No Other Land" Slams Claims of Antisemitism over Apartheid Comment at Berlinale

We continue our conversation with Israeli journalist and filmmaker Yuval Abraham, who discusses the award-winning documentary No Other Land that he co-directed with Palestinian activist Basel Adra, about land dispossession in Masafer Yatta in the occupied West Bank. While accepting the audience award for best documentary at the Berlin International Film Festival, also known as the Berlinale, Abraham said Israel was practicing apartheid, a comment for which he later received death threats. "You have German politicians who are not Jewish who labeled me as an antisemite. For what? For calling for a ceasefire? For calling for equality between Israelis and Palestinians? For using the word 'apartheid,' which should be common sense to describe these parallel systems of inequality?" says Abraham, who calls for an end to the "apartheid reality" in Israel and Palestine. "If there is no full political equality and really full freedom to everybody who lives in this land, then there can be no future here. We are going to continue to fight to change this."

My wife is a Christian from Bulgaria. I have named my first son Samuel. In prison, you also keep your shoes/boots on all the time when a fight, riot, or similar might happen soon. I’ve been watching many documentaries about Nazi germany. Check out The People Profiles on KZfaq, they have many docs on the Nazi leaders and you can see the correlation between Nazis of Germany and Nazis of Israel. Mirror images.

Thank you so much Amy and Democracy Now, for giving Yuval Abraham the platform to speak to this audience! 🙌 I’m really bad at faces (and apparently sometimes bad at names!) and it took until the moment of me watching this to put two and two together, and realise that the brilliant Israeli film director behind “No Other Land” and the brilliant Israeli journalist behind the recent +972 Mag article on the AI war machines are one and the same (despite watching several recent interviews with Yuval, as well as the speech at the Berlinale several times!) 🤦🏻‍♀️ 😆 I think my admiration and respect for Yuval has just multiplied by a factor of itself! 🤩 I still haven’t yet had a chance to watch the film, but I very much intend to. He is very much one of the honourable heroes of the entire country of Israel as seen by the outside world, and I salute him 🫡

A great part of the political establishment in Germany believes the savest way to prove that Germany is no longer antisemitic to go along with the dominant view in Israel (broadcast throughout the world by various organisations like the ADL) of what is antisemitic, ignoring the fact that unpleasant facts (like the Apartheid reality) are smeared as antisemitic for purely cynical political convenience

It gets even more pathetic. Claudia Roth, the German Minister of Culture was criticized for applauding their acceptance speeches. Frau Roth immediately pulled back, stating that she was applauding the Israeli, not the Palestinian. Does get anymore disgusting and vulgar than that? I had a friend in college USA she was Israeli, she came to me introduced herself and I in return introduced myself. She is Israeli, and I am Palestinian. We were friends throughout college. Some days we meet for lunch or dinner, she will come to my house and visit. One day she called me crying and said to me she will be not be able to be my friend anymore bc she got married to this crazy Israeli in the military and asked never to speak to me again.
