Hey guys what’s happening? Niyat here with film comics explained, and as requested, today we’re diving into the recently released sci-fi thriller, ISS. Starring Ariana DeBose, Chris Messina, John Gallagher Jr., Masha Mashkova, Costa Ronin, and Pilou Asbæk - we follow astronauts and cosmonauts from America and Russia that find their fates intertwined and tested. As World War III erupts on Earth, the tension escalates aboard the space station, transforming it into a microcosm of the planet below.
The sci-fi thriller, celebrated for iconic films like "Alien," "Gravity," and "The Martian," which combine the mystery of the cosmos with human drama (set against a backdrop of impressive special effects and intelligent scripts) tends to thrive on the portrayal of space as an uncontrollable constant, a vast expanse where conflict and mission-driven narratives intertwine. And "I.S.S.," the first sci-fi release of 2024, enters the genre, offering a new perspective by asking, what if the central conflict is entirely beyond the characters' control?

I want to give this movie a shot but I have a feeling it'll turn out to be extremely obnoxious just with the premise. The ISS has no tactical purpose, it's just a science platform. If superpower countries were attacked, the ISS would just be abandoned and couldn't be resupplied. I guess it's all they could do to avoid the realistic approach where a bunch of scientists get cut off and slowly starve until the platform eventually runs out of air and fuel and eventually deorbits itself, or they collectively decide to do it manually.

Nah, they need a Canadian lol. There's almost always one on board anyway, and Chris Hadfield commanded it like a boss. His book is really amazing too. Plus, they could have used the real Canada Arm instead of a fake arm... It gets overshadowed, but it's possibly the single most important tool for the astronauts. It has saved them thousands of dangerous space walks, which also need to be planned for like a week; not good for urgent repairs.

Just saw this movie last night. We had a very in depth discussion about it all the way home. I don't think you can take very much at face value in the movie. It looks like a science fiction movie, but everything is an analogy or allegorical. The firestorm on the planet is too big for the scale, but it doesn't need to be scientifically accurate. The constant glow and what it represents is more important. The loss of Gordon and Nika to me represents so much more than just plot contrivance. They represent the futility of love when war is determined to tear the world apart. As for the radiation sickness cure. If you think about it, there really isn't a cure, or a defense, against radiation that you inject or take. But that isn't important, it is what the cure represents. It is a decision that the characters need to make, and one we as the audience need to contemplate. It couldn't be the cure for cancer or old age, it had to be the one thing that would bring salvation for everyone on Earth. It had to be radiation sickness. Once the radiation starts circling the globe, everyone is going to need it. The idea is that the final 2 survivors have to choose whether or not to give the world a 2nd chance. If they do, which side would get it? They appear to choose the 3rd option, a hope to give it to a different country that won't use it to dominate the other, but give the whole world a chance. Completing their character arcs of not having to choose a side. I think this movie is way underrated right now. It is amazingly brilliant and I hope it gets it's a more fair assessment in the future.

I wish I had seen this 7 hours ago.... Its pretty, and well acted, but the directorial and editorial choices are disappointing. Chekov's air system was probably the most egregious. The setup is solid, the follow through is just bland, and flavorless. Almost like they were afraid to make any kind of statement for fear of being to pro or anti American or Russian. Also, I would argue this is NOT sci-fi. It is set in space, and it postulates a potential future or alternate present, however science, actual or imagined, has little impact on the plot. This same story could have been told in an Antarctic research base, or any other isolated location with a dependency on the greater world for continued existence. Euron Greyjoy (Pilou Asbæk) is probably the only redeeming feature of this otherwise meandering meh burger.

I’m in the minority here but I liked this movie. Yeaa it had plot holes but I would rather have it then not. im interested to see how the world below is In a sequel and it didn’t end how I assumed. Love sci fi

It's not like the ISS is the equivalent of the Hammer of Dawn from Gears of War, so why fight about it?

my favourite space movie still The Martian. in that movie nobody asking what's your sexuality (seriously no romance in it) or what you represent, just Mark Watney want to survive, and everybody no matter what race or status just want him go home.

The outer limits dd a even lower budget of this story, When communication break down, and nations are on the edge. Did someone strike, should we hit first, what if its on. With no coms people start to get primal, and selfish. The ugly side of humanity shows its face.

Premise doesn't make any sense at all. What's the point of loyalty to countries that no longer exist? You want to fight over whose country is the most unhabitable?

I heard that this is one of the most realistic Sci Fi thrillers ever made! I told my family that it's a what if scenario on what would happen if the United States and Russia started WWIII and those who are on the ISS must do everything they can to fight back for survival m

Lol if ww3 started they're fucked mate, just like sattelites I'm pretty sure they have to be corrected during flight "orbit" otherwise they'll just crash into earth as they're not really orbiting more like constantly free falling to earth, that's the whole reason why there's a separate "orbit" pattern you can move space junk into so it's left todo a dead orbit and just stay suspended in space forever

How is it remotely realistic? Scientists with zero combat training wouldn't get orders to take over a research platform that has zero tactical purpose. How are they supposed to survive when they can't get resupplied and abandoning ship would just drop them into a wasteland?
