It's a mid-ocean Glass-Off! [🎥79🇦🇺]

We visit Lady Musgrave, a coral atoll at the beginning of the Great Barrier Reef and witness a rare sight: a complete glass-off in the middle of the ocean. We also discuss the sailing community. On the water we are “cruisers” and we face the same challenges and rewards as the cruisers around us. To have sailed our homes to this spot is our unifying thread and it quickly bonds us. Out here we are all looking for companionship and community - and that simply doesn’t happen at home, on land.
We are posting live updates on our social channels:

ABOUT US: We are a family of five sailing around the world on a performance catamaran named "Archer" and sharing our adventures in family-friendly episodes every Tuesday!
OUR ROUTE: We departed the Boston area of the United States and sailed south to the Caribbean and then west through the Panama Canal. We have dealt with massive repairs in the South Pacific, the Coronavirus lock down in New Zealand, a Category 5 Cyclone in Fiji, and now we are cruising in Australia.
OUR PAST: You may remember us as "SV Honeymoon?" Ten years ago ("before kids"), we sailed a Lagoon 380 named Honeymoon halfway around the world to Sydney, Australia. Along the way we shared our experiences via KZfaq and, by happenstance, created one of the very first "sailing channels." We also realized what an incredible experience we were having and that someday we wanted to do it again, only this time with kids.
FAQ: More questions? Check out our Frequently Asked Questions page on our website or answers to many of your questions in this 40 minute episode:

PLEASE COMMENT!: As a channel with kids on-board, we are required to actively monitor all comments, but we still want to hear from you. Tell us what you think!

One day in the 90' s I left my car at jiffy lube. Bad choice? It was in a huge construction zone Biscayne Blvd being widened. I walked across 2 completely messy unused parking lots. Filthy, unused for years, heading to Borders books in background. I was disgusted. Suddenly I heard this heavenly singing. I stopped still. 💓A brown and yellow large canary bird sat on this tusk of weeds sing his heart out. Everything fell away around me and for a minute I was in paradise. We can always find moments of paradise when we walk with awareness. Bless you all. Never met such happy and well balanced family.🌴

Search of paradise? eye candy? I hear you. Most likely it's within pending how present we are, how our mindset is. Of course we are influenced by exterior stimuli. A moment in time where external paradise turned to hell in indonasia' s Xmas tsunami. You are so blessed with family, friends, love, world travel, health.very blessed. Close to paradise right there. Thank you for your sharing. You bring some beautiful experiences to many people who are unable to create your paradise.

The bats were amazing! That would be quite the experience. I’m not surprised your hull was attacked with bat guano. I had the same thing happen with seagulls. Left the boat for 2 weeks on a mooring ball , And when we returned found several gulls had made it their home, ( along with many other boats left unattended.). The smell was overpowering. It took about solid week of cleaning to get rid of it, and left a few stains that will not come out of the gel coat. Now I hate seagulls. Lol. Anyhow, great video. Thank you.

In this video, cruisers are people who prioritize togetherness. Regardless of work background, education, wealth, nation and things that are not important. Life is beautiful if we can respect each other and don't look at different backgrounds. I love to see the cruisers get to know each other. Greetings from Indonesia.

Seth, you are spot on when it comes to connection and community. Sharing a common experience in the now is what makes the journey so rewarding. As the song Bitter sweet symphony says, "Your a slave to money then you die", resonates with those that know that true happiness is something that can't be bought. Having your home, kids and loving wife along for the ride is a wonderful thing. I know this joy, (certainly not at the level you are at), but it is those cherished memories and friends we made during those times that can be what gets us through the day. The idea that someday soon we will cast our lines once again and slip the bonds of this material circus, is what pushes us on...........Thanks for your words

I subscribed in the 1980s for Cruising World Magazine, and one of the things our book-dumb educators were concerned about that cruising kid would miss the benefits of classmates. I see that cruising kids see the world first hand, and make many friends of many nations. They are also fast at learning different languages, Your kids will have many adventureous to tell their children.
@donaldvanvliet9039

Missing the benefits of classmates and stable long lasting relationships is still a valid concern, no matter all the benefits of cruising. It’s not one or the other.
@user-oj6jn5ii6e

@@donaldvanvliet9039 Indeed. COVID lockdowns has demonstrated that most clearly. I’d imagine/hope most attentive parents would be more than capable of managing those trade-offs during their sailing adventures. I’m looking forward to finding this balance when I take my own young family world cruising in the next 5 years… wish us luck!
@TheSailingFamily
@TheSailingFamily 2 жыл бұрын
@@donaldvanvliet9039 It is true. We miss organized sport and school plays and recitals. Band practice. There are trade offs for sure, but overall we think that adding this into their upbringing far outweighs those losses. We'll have time for all that when we return home in a couple years.

WOW, I really enjoyed this episode TSF. I loved your little speech. So true. Life is teaching you things too on this journey. It was so enjoyable to reminisce how fun and exciting it was to turn 11 with Cale. I was in Maroochydore holidaying with my family. I got a Scalextrix slot car set from my Mum and Dad!!! 🙀🤪😄 I was really impressed on how Hale loved thanking his siblings for their presents. Happy Birthday buddy!!! 🎂🍾🥂. So heart warming. I also enjoy your sails, and the geographical information you give us, nice! I was thinking during some of the sails that you, no doubt, will sit down with Hale, and each of the kids in due course, and explain to them that though they are young now, and they see you taking control and doing all the grown up things to keep them safe, that with each passing birthday, they will slowly seek and be rewarded by questions of their dad, the knowledge and experience to: sail, handle a boat, be adept with handling life's little mishaps and misfortunes, and that receiving that knowledge that will sustain and bring them 'wholesome', 'well grounded' and 'fruitful' into adulthood by their father. But even more than that, to be able and willing to seek out solid relationships with women of their choice where they will show and express their feelings for those around them openly, by a strong independent mother. I don't need to tell you that you both are raising great children. May God's love and protection be with you all! 👍🙏

Seeing the world, or for that matter even if it’s just traveling the U.S. is the greatest education a kid can have. I’m fortunate, in that I have been in every state in the U.S. (including Alaska and Hawaii), Europe and the Scandinavian countries. Without a doubt I consider it to be the equivalent of an Ivy League education. You still need the mathematics,sciences, and some history but it beats the hell out of any traditional education. What’s awesome too is kids learn their own way of looking at the world and they are not influenced by the opinions of others with bias.

So I have my adventures through people like y’all. Great videos, nice family. Like the drone footages. If you don’t already-remember to put the drone to good use for scouting ahead in an unknown channel , shallows, reef, or even a questionable looking boat heading towards you. When I was in Australia years ago, I heard a story about a guy with a dog who decided to sleep on a beach one night. In the middle of the night he woke up to strange noises and when he turned around there was a fully grown crocodile chomping down on his dog. I don't know if that story is true. But, if there's one thing that is true, it's the ability of Aussies to spin a great yarn. (Don't even get them started on "hoop snakes" and "drop bears" ... ;) ) However, it could be true. And that's the point. Up there, in Northern Queensland, the crocodiles eat the Great Whites. You've been warned.
