the Uruguay game was incidental...it was OVER after losing to 43rd ranked Panama...i thought we went toe to toe against URU, and we got screwed over that goal allowed, but that game should NOT have mattered, it should have been a nothing burger game...but in the end, we continue to underperform against lower ranked teams, which are a staple of Berhalter's tenure...

That athletic powerhouse Iceland (population: 382,003) beat England and reached the quarterfinals of the 2016 Euros. There's absolutely no excuse for repeated U.S. failure. Also, America is full of big athletes with good hand-eye coordination; why aren't we producing world class keepers like we used to? It should be a no-brainer.

True. But, on the other hand, this is exactly what I felt about the team pretty much the entire period from 2011 to 2017 when the program finally collapsed. I've felt mostly good about the last six years compared to the prior period. Berhalter for the first time in the job failed to meet the minimum required expectations. He deserves to be dismissed. But I figure its only about 50% chance that it will get better once he's fired or resigns. There is some lucky MLS team that will pick Gregg up. But there just aren't a lot of great choices for a coach that are realistic and available right now. I don't foresee the team even having a coach until early next year if they release him now.

I followed the team after they hired the German clown. You can manage to follow the team with Berhalter.

I've heard that he's already been fired, although a formal announcement won't be made until after the COPA. The new candidate is some hot German coaching prospect already known to the Federation: Breg Gerhalter.

Pepi had several chances SAVED which you probably consider a "miss." Our players are good finishers though: Pulsic, Reyna, Weah, Pepi, Balogun, Wright, Aaronson, Lletget, Mihailovic, McKennie. Only Musah is a bad finisher (so far).

@@colinreese Any shot on goal is not a miss, this is coming from a striker. I usually rate players based on work rate, creative play, and assists or goals. Musah is very bad and should never play, and I am fine with what you said, but Lletget is not good and Reyna is massively overhyped and takes up space on the field IMHO. I thought Robinson and Joe Scally were very good this tournament.

In short, most of them don't know what it's like to win anything, except the meaningless concacaf trophies. This is another problem with not having players at the top clubs in the world that actually win things of significance. Even you Canadians don't understand the level of hate and pressure we experience, because the sabotage against the US is not just sporting- inspired, it's also political. Canadians only experience disrespect in regards to the sport. It goes way deeper for Americans. That being said, your points are still perfectly valid 👍

What makes you think they have great individual attributes ass opposed to merely OK? McKennie in particular is almost impossible to fit into any team in a productive manner. He's not a reliable defender, but at the same time he can't score with his feet. You don't want him as a box to box because he can't score from outside the box, and you don't want him as a six because his judgement is poor. And he's not great as a #10 because his distribution isn't great. Also he's prone to getting out of shape. Adams is the best of the three, but he's injury prone and neither fast nor strong. Plus sometimes he gets over committed and doesn't track back quick enough. And Reyna has tons of skills but the mental capacity of a 10 year old. I am resigned to the fact that at this point he will always be no more than just wasted potential. I think you are starting to understand the problem with the team when you ask, "who can do their part to create frequent scoring chances?" You really need to ask that question about the whole team. We don't have a reliable international quality #9. Both Balogun and Pulisic are players that are really only as good as the players around them. They aren't players that frequently create chances on their own. And Weah is so unreliable at finishing that he's now relegated to fullback duties for his club. He only sparkles on the USMNT because we are overall so unathletic and Weah is at least a decent athlete. Berhalter deserves to be dismissed for this performance, but a coaching change isn't going to fix the fundamental problems.

McKennie picked a crazy time to have one of his worst string of performances. If we could have played Panama over it should have been Adams Musah Reyna or Johnny.
