It's always faster to do it right the first time

I see a lot of these mowers where a good intentioned person doesn't take the time to make sure he orders the right part, then tries to make the wrong one work, or takes something apart and can't put it back together again. You will always save time and money if you take your time and do it right the first time.

Dang fiddle fairies tried to trip you up on that carb Bill. Nice job detecting the missing O-ring. That spring does look alittle funky, but seems to work fine. If you dont get wounds on your hands, that means your not doing anything! Lol. 👍🎥🇺🇸

The o-ring almost got me. It's the first I have seen that just... wasn't.... there. I get asked to do reviews almost daily and have always politely declined them, but if Band-aid ever asks, I am their man!

I didn’t like that plastic carb at first. But once you understand it, it’s actually a decent carb. I much prefer it to the Honda design with 6 gaskets and two bolts that have to be snaked through the plastic cover, the gasket, the metal bracket, a gasket, the carb body, a gasket, a spacer, a gasket, the heat shield, and a gasket.

They are a bit tedious to remove and replace, but the corrosion factor makes it worth the work

It's one of the hazards of buying used mowers that won't start. The guy I got it from didn't strike me a at tinkerer either

I was scared of the plastic carb my son-in-law had on a walk behind string trimmer that wouldn't run that mainly fixed itself but I'd like one now. The 4 horse on my old Snapper is a little sideways but I think it's the governor. It had pinholes in the tank but Seal-all took care of them. I just haven't got the combination exactly right but it runs fine but might run off. I got the Briggs book on all the later flatheads and maybe I'll figure it out if I don't drop over the greezerish cliff too quick. Been mowing every 2 days and the battery job is SWEET! Have around 67% or so battery left. I'm going to time it one of these days. Rain today so we'll see what's what. Stay cool and practise up for the baking coming shortly. You can always come and mow here and cool off! CHEERS, Pal!

For a brief moment, Ryobi made a really cool battery mower. It failed miserably, but it looked cool.

@@GuysPlayingWithTools Seems like they made a batch of stuff that didn't pan out. I/we know it's a lot of how stuff it taken care of but if it's not there to be taken care of, well.......! I ordered a vacuum kit for my old Stihl 85 hand blower and the orderer got confused and ordered the reinforced blower housing for an 86 which is the new model. I found out it was smaller and thinner than the old stuff. Won't fit. Swapped it out for the right stuff. You can get a beefed up blower housing for the vacuum so the stuff won't wear it out so quick. Lined with hard rubber type stuff. Armor plated! I just used it for leaves and chunks of dead rotten limbs. Works fine for that. Blew it into a pile with the Echo and left the vacuum stuff on the Stihl so I didn't have to swap it out. It's just waiting to go again!

@lewiemcneely9143 Speaking of old equipment, I picked up a Kawasaki weedeater barn find today. It's the first one i have seen in years. It's been sitting for a decade so we will see if it comes together

@@GuysPlayingWithTools It should. I had a 4-foot Ex-mark belt drive wank behind with a 12 horse Kawasaki that was old as a rock and would use NO oil between changes at the end of the season. Started 1st pull! I gave it to a pal and he's still using it. They make GREAT stuff. Looking forward to watching you get it going! And I got a 6-horse off a junk Deere mower and put it on my Kawasnapper. Ran fine when it left here.

Good job bill and timing! Lots will have problems with fuel / carbys this time of year. I’m with you I do like these carbs and their minimal linkages / simplicity. Those old b&s air vane linkages are a bit of a pain. However their simplicity to fix compared to having to tear the engine apart to fix the internal governors aren’t so fun. So it’s 6 of one, half dozen of the other I guess 😂

Thanks mate. Corrosion is a problem here with weather and temperature swings and plastic carbs never have those issues 🙂

I love the ease of cleaning the cartridge jet carbs...so simple. I am currently working on an older Murray Power Propelled 4008 mower and I am trying to find a replacement engage/disengage cable but have had no luck finding one...do you know of a source for obtaining these cables?
@GuysPlayingWithTools
@GuysPlayingWithTools 4 ай бұрын
My too! Email me a pic of the cable and model tag on the mower(if it has one), I have gotten pretty handy at finding odd parts over the years but I have learned(the hard way LOL) to visually match EVERYTHING before buying it. bill.jarboe@charter.net
