Love watching you interact with your fur babies!

My 12 inch jointer came with an aluminum pork chop blade guard. I would not use steel that close to the cutter head but it is not my machine and your design may account for this. I loosened the spring in mine for easier operation, but it still gets in the way regardless on wider boards.

This is a great video with a lot of information in it, especially for writing G code using a picture and with drawing out what you need. I think you should include the fact that you’re showing how you write the code using Fusion 360 in your title for the video. If anyone wants to reference something like this it probably wouldn’t show up in a search and they wouldn’t benefit what you are showing. Anyways thanks for sharing, this has to be one of the easiest videos I’ve seen on writing G code.

No matter which style you use, you're always going to have that guard sticking out. Good thing with a joiner is, you can still safely push the material through and walk along side. To me, keep the style you have now but make it to where it raises and lowers over the material, think of it like a planer. For woodworking or metal working as well, best safety tool is the one that sits above your shoulders. Also, it's not wise to use steel as a guard, last thing you want is steel hitting the "knives". Aluminum should be used. Cheers :)

Might ought to break out the TIG and give it a try on some aluminum.

There are alot of Fabricators on KZfaq who have either, an Arc Droid, a professional or DIY, half or full size plasma table and they have absolutely no problems either inlargerating or running a drill through to clean up the cut holes up. They all have one thing in common, none of them use a water table straight under their slats, some have a catch tray type deal or a deep table with a small amount of water at the bottom. Just saying its not a dig at you just an observation. Nice work and great video as usual. .

Yep, it's the water that causes the problem of hardening the torch kerf.

Before you removed the dross from the porkchop, you had it laid out flipped (dross side up). Hard to tell but I think you may have flipped it back again before drilling the hole. That way the straighter side is against the fence.

I would look at making or buying a second guard like you have from factory...if cheap enough..and cutting it down to have a shorter one when you slide it out?? reducing stick out...or making a 2 piece version you can adjust in length to reduce stick out.... Abd don't forget to " Save " your file as you design it.... takes a second to Save it and if something happens you don't lose it...or at least " some " of your design if it crashes or you forget... Even a simple design that takes not much time can be recovered... 🇨🇦🤓🤟

Looks like a great design, just wondering if the curved edge on the feed side of the porkchop could be cut away a bit more to reduce the swing of the guard. Can you scan the smaller porkchop into the CAD system? That might give you a truer design. I have a very old 6 inch Craftsman jointer that is missing the blade guard and I pay very close attention when I need to use it. Safety first.

I know this is probably already done but did you think about making this in, say, three pieces that each piece overlaps the next to take up less room on the stick out. Each piece could have its own spring clipped into the previous section with a main spring for the bottom section. It might be a little complicated, but just thinking out loud. What are the chances that you will make this out of aluminum in the off chance it would ever contact the cutter head? Thanks again for sharing.

I actually mentioned that in the video. A collapsing design. Would be pretty complicated to work properly.

@@woodandmetalshoptime8048, I watched the whole video, but I missed where you said that. Maybe I subconsciously heard it and that’s why I thought of that. It did sound complicated though, we’ll see next week what you come up with.

Why don't you make your guard in the Triangle shape also? That would give you the protection, move with the wood and not stick out 12" on the working side of the machine?
@woodandmetalshoptime80483 ай бұрын
You need some curve for the wood to push the guard out of the way. But I was thinking it could be modified to be less "fat" and a slimmer profile might be better.

Hi, can't you just use a stylus pen, just trace the cardboard or any part/item, like they have with the archdroid? Saves time of taking photo, then importing it.
@garymallard46993 ай бұрын
Most software has a Tracing function that can do a decent or great copy of a picture or scan ... it depends on the amount of knowledge the person using it has.... there are always more than one way to do anything.... 🇨🇦🤓🤟

Don't have such a stylus pen. I'm sure it's possible though.
