Now that the major deck work is done for the cabin, it's time to move on to something else, and that something else is the insulation, strapping, windows, and siding...well, let's just start with one or two of those things first. I have most of my insulation on site, but definitely don't have any strapping yet. Sure, I could buy some cheap pine strapping, but why buy it when I can make it. I have a pile of logs on the lower part of our home property to pick from, and that pile of logs is on my list to deal with. It is somewhat in the way of where Steve and I would like to build a little cabin. Some of those logs are great milling logs, but there are others that are a bit small - however, I will try and make use of them!
I am currently looking after 7 dogs, and have been having issues (medically and behaviourally 🤪) with a couple of ours, so I really had a hard time being able to stick to my work tasks for this video. I will just have to continue picking away at the bits of chores around here. I will see you back out at the cliff again soon though!
Thanks so much for watching and see you in the next video!
M 💕

I’m a guy 68 years old, very familiar with the kind of fun you are having with all the toys. Running the bobcat, tractors, sawmill, and carpentry skills, swinging a framing hammer, building cabins and just doing stuff. But taking care of the dogs is something that really touches my heart. We (my wife and I )have five dogs, all rescues. We lost one yesterday to kidney disease and our hearts are broken. I can see you don’t take yours for granted, they are so important. They help keep us balanced. Clyde especially touches my heart. He’s such a happy boy. The best time of day for us is the evening, when we all climb in bed together. Thanks for the videos. Stay safe.

@@michygoss7148 Hi, 👋, at the moment, I could not afford a dog 🐺in 🐏 clothing , 😂 . I only have enough money coming in to pay my self and upkeep of my property, however, I’m hoping to have some money from the UK later in the year, back in 2004/5 my ex and I on my Harley Davidson, Deuce, stayed in a château in France for a few days, and they had our Pyrenees mountain dog, it was gorgeous, it looked very mean and aggressive, First thing in the morning, I will go for a walk around the estate and the dog would follow me about toad a 3 foot behind me , and would not go near my ex. Obviously the dog know that she wasn’t faithful to me., even come and sit by my bike, waited for us to leave, and then directly he heard us coming back he will come and stand and sit, where are used to park the bike, and it would walk with me back to the Château, I would love one of these Pyrenees mountain dogs, but I’ve heard they have a short lifespan, you never know, I might pick one up, 🐺❤️💐, I think I remember you saying that you like antiques and vintage, I am all of those, 71 years young, and still very fit, I was told last week at the hospital when I went for a check up, I had the paperwork to prove it ha ha, I did have a heart attack about 18 months ago, more due to stress than anything else, If you’re not too busy, next week, 😂 can you come and help me cut down 4 trees and cut them up next week please pretty please , 🤣🤣🤣, . You all Keep safe, Phil from the moulin France,

A trick for removing pesky nails that don’t come out with a wrecking or crow bar… a set of large Vise Grips plus a screw driver. The screw driver to bend the nail up enough to… grab it with the Vise Grips. You don’t have to actually lock the Vise Grips. Set them so they don’t easily lock on the nails. And the big rounded Vise Grips head provides nice leverage for yanking the nails out.

Got to thinking when you and Steve complete the ore cart hot tub something fun you could add near it is an old Pettibone mechanical railroad switch for changing railroad track. Then find an old switch lamp like an Adlake Switch Lamp with the red, green, amber, blue lenses. Whatever combination you'd like. Have the oil pot or fount as they're called with burner and wick operable. Burn Citronella oil in it to keep the bugs away. Just a fun idea.

Michelle, Harbor freight tools, has a battery load tester for six and 12 V batteries its handheld. What it does is it produces heat to put a load on your battery after you charge it and tells you if the battery is good or bad. You hold a switch for 10 seconds, and it has a needle that goes to either week, or bad . batteries can be charged to 14 V but then when the load is put on them, it can’t handle the load it might have a bad cell. This would be a great gift for Steve, because he has so many batteries to take care of.

I tend not to comment much, but this one was dear to me for a few reasons. First and foremost, Steve is awesome. He cracks me up and I can only imagine how many people don't 'get him' and the flood of bullshittery you are going to get. The jackholes can all taking a flying leap beyond the cabin 'tool capture wall' :) Speaking of flying, my wife and I fly rescue dogs around the south US to foster or furever homes. She was a vet tech so we tend to get the more challenging flights, including our own pups that had my wife doing eye drops every 4ish hours 24/7 for 2+ years!! (yes, SHE rocks big time!!!) Love all the dog updates and balance between watching over them and letting them live their best life.

You said before that you have many twisted cedar logs. Peel them and cut them into 12 in long log piece's then split them into cedar shake for siding. Nothing goes to waste. 🤠 You will need a Froe (a cleaving tool with a handle at right angles to the blade).

Did you guys check the water levels in the battery? If you can get some distilled water, pop the caps on the die hards and look inside. Water should go up slightly over the lead cells. If the battery is over 5-6 years old, it's probably time to change anyway.

Hey, just a thought regarding the sorted logs; ignore the 'firewood' comments. (You, as I, live in a forest. You don't need to turn good, usable logs into something already in great supply.) You went to all the trouble of sorting the big pile into several different groups. They'll keep a bit longer. The "small log" pile material would make great posts (4x4's) for a new warming-hut build. They don't have to be milled square, a little wane/rounded edge won't harm the integrity and might add a little rustic charm if left exposed. Just sayin' Cheers from ex-pat West Kootenay guy, now in the Willamette Valley.

Good video. Never liked the look of board and batten and it's very susceptible to warping and leaks. Live edge lap siding has a great look, is less likely to leak, and with a good oil finish will last longer than we will without warping off the wall. Here in the highlands of Scotland we never use B&B. So that's my to pence, love your work.
