Really great video, currently in the process of doing another small prewire with my company. Always good to see that I'm following the basic rules correctly. Channels like yours have really helped my business grow here in PA, and I just wanted to thank you for the content you put out.

I am prewiring my home for ethernet and entertainment. All homes will have ethernet along with multiple ethernet to tv locations per your advice. I also want to install an OREI video matrix 4x4. The Home Run location will be pretty busy so I was thinking of putting the OREI on the main level in a closet, run a few ethernet cables from OREI to the basement where the ethernet switch will be. So you feel this is an ok idea or should both the ethernet switch and OREI matrix be in the lower level next to each other?
@GreatChoiceAudioVideo

I would recommend all video/audio and network be in the same location. ( preferably a rack )

any thoughts on conduit for the unforseen? how would you suggest going about doing that for low voltage wires?
@GreatChoiceAudioVideo
@GreatChoiceAudioVideo Жыл бұрын
yes, If your able to install conduit or smurf tube to areas for future wire pulls, that would be a good idea. We are now also adding a few fiber drops for the internet service and a few displays or projectors.

With spray foam being used more, do you need to have to protect your network and low voltage cables?
@GreatChoiceAudioVideo
@GreatChoiceAudioVideo Жыл бұрын
Not too much, but have to think of future wiring a little more. We usually install some conduit or smurf tube for those areas we might need back to for future wires possibly.

How many inches do you typically keep your CAT cable from power (Romex)?
@GreatChoiceAudioVideo
@GreatChoiceAudioVideo 2 жыл бұрын
With all the wires we run, we typically try and stay a minimum of 12" away while running parallel with Romex. If bring wires down a stud to a TV location or internet drop, then you would have Romex coming down on one side of the stud to a box and then we would use the other side of the stud to come down if we are putting the box next to an outlet.

are motorized shades run over CAT6 with POE or separate power source and wire?
@GreatChoiceAudioVideo
@GreatChoiceAudioVideo Жыл бұрын
It really depends on the manufacture. We typically use SI shades, Lutron shades and Somfy shades. All three are a little different when it comes to power and control.

I have a question to ask. what is the good brand on the 8" round speaker? my friend has Klipsch and he says that it is one of the best brands. I like to get you expert opinion, and on the amplifier , rack or regular . thanks
@GreatChoiceAudioVideo
@GreatChoiceAudioVideo Жыл бұрын
There are so many good brands out there for speakers these days so I'm not gonna put down Klipsch. I will tell you that we Sell KEF, James Loudspeaker and Sonance for a reason. All three make a really nice 8" speaker for different performance levels and budgets. As far as an amp goes, just depends if we are talking two channel, surround or multi-channel? Sorry, I know this doesn't probably help you much.

Not your trade, but do any of these houses have any concern about the lack of insulation from the components in the stud bays. Do they have exterior insulation, or do they just not care about r factors? Thanks
@GreatChoiceAudioVideo
@GreatChoiceAudioVideo 2 жыл бұрын
We typically run our wires before they insulate. They are putting spray foam on the outside walls and under the roof. This hose will be well insulated. Thanks

What wiring are you using for the automated shades? I was going to use a cat6 run and some 14/2 for power? And then what did you use to cover the wire sticking out from the window? I'm not looking to get shades right away, and was having a hard time getting a straight answer out of the vendor(s).
@GreatChoiceAudioVideo
@GreatChoiceAudioVideo 2 жыл бұрын
You are correct for the wiring. As for hiding the wire, that is a tough one if you aren't doing the shades right away. We typically will do a small loop and zip tie it so it won't accidentally get pushed back in the hole. Then let them paint the wire the same color as the trim. That beats just a wire hanging, but not a whole lot to do with it till you do the shades. Hope that helps!

Depending on size of room how does one decide on 6.5” vs 8” in ceiling speakers? Is there a good rule of thumb to use?
@GreatChoiceAudioVideo
@GreatChoiceAudioVideo 2 жыл бұрын
We typically go off ceiling height mostly. A 8' ceiling, we would normally use just a 6.5" speaker. When we do a 9' ceiling or higher, we typically will jump to a 8" speaker. Now, for each of those sizes, there are some big ranges in performance as well some better amplifiers to really improve the audio. Then you can do either a 2-way speaker or a 3-way speaker to improve performance or even add a separate in-wall or in-ceiling subwoofer to pair with the in-wall or in-ceiling speakers. Hope that helps!

@@GreatChoiceAudioVideo great thx! With 9’ ceilings - Do you find yourself mixing 6.5” & 8” in ceilings open concept layout such as a living room & kitchen ie 6.5” in living room 5.1 and 8” in kitchen or just use 8” through both rooms?

What wires for cameras? Electric and cat6?
@GreatChoiceAudioVideo
@GreatChoiceAudioVideo Жыл бұрын
We typically only run CAT6 to all the cameras. That way we just connect them to a NVR with built in POE or we use a big POE Ethernet Switch to power them up.

I am having a 2800sq home built, 2 story. Question is I want speakers throughout the house. So each room needs a key pad for my speakers? Can I run cat5. I’m going to run 14-2 for all my music speakers in the house. So cat5 for keypads to control my music. Then 2 cat5 for TVs.
@GreatChoiceAudioVideo
@GreatChoiceAudioVideo 2 жыл бұрын
It depends on what your gonna use to control your music. If your doing a keypad house-wide system from Xantech, Russound, etc, then yes, you would run a CAT5 or CAT6 to the keypad location from where the equipment is going. ( Homerun ) If you are doing a couple touch panels, then just a CAT6 to those from the equipment location. For video distribution, you should run a minimum of 2 CAT6 to the TV. In some cases, we’ll run 3. Just depends on what you think you might be doing or what system you are gonna use. Hope that helps!
