Hi Mazzy. Thanks for featuring Ian Hunter's You're Never Alone... record. I can't think of a more perfect set of songs than side two of that album. And Standing In My Light is a much neglected classic! A great choice, much respect.

Huge Zevon fan and I wish I had all his records. I have many but not all. Recently read a book written by his wife about his life and made me understand him more and made me realize that HE was a genius. A troubled one, but I think most geniuses are.

If anyone asks what the link is between a rocker like Ian Hunter and a crooner like Barry Manilow, the answer is on You're Never Alone . . . The song Ships, written by Hunter and performed on this album, was recorded and released by Manilow the same year. A big hit for him. Hunter continues to be an excellent songwriter and performer as he hits his mid-80s. I suggest listening to his albums Yui Orta (his opus with Mick Ronson, 1990), Rant (2001) and When I'm President (2012). Also a huge Zevon fan from way back. Gotta have the album Werewolves of London, though my favorite Zevon songs these days are Searching' for a Heart and Reconsider Me.

Enjoyed this vid. Ian Hunter is one of my Rock Heroes and though I never saw MTH I did get to see Ian several times starting with that '79 tour. Went to the after-party at their motel's bar and was able to sit at the bar with the guys for a bit. But the album title, you may have read, doesn't make sense. It really should have been "You're Never Alone WHEN YOU'RE Schizophrenic". A big difference.

It’s amazing how a great artist that you’ve followed for decades still has lots to explore for us. Emmylou is like that for me. Jim Carroll’s Catholic Boy is a classic to me. I never listen to the other ones, I should bust them out. Emmylou from about ‘92 to 2010 was just hitting the peak of her career to me. Brilliant and stunning vixen of a woman. Ian Hunter is a very cool guy. Have you ever heard Otis Gibbs’ interview of Ian on KZfaq Maz? It’s awesome! Teatro was a brilliant album! Daniel Lanois adds so much to his projects. Warren Zevon is like an old friend. He taught me to enjoy every sandwich. I went to high school with a guy who played with Sun Kil Moon

Thanks Mazzy for the video. I became acquainted with Ian Hunter's, You're Never Alone record within the last year. It's a great record that I'm glad I discovered! I've also enjoyed Emmylou Harris' music over the yeears as well and have apprecoated when she has paid tribute to Graham Parsons on some of her albums. I'm not as familiar with Maria Muhldar but I also enjoy the song Midnight at the Oasis. Thanks for the recommendations!

I was at university when "You're Never Alone..." was released. I played it incessantly. My mate (previously a Carpenters & ABBA fan) became a fan of the record - I must have brainwashed him (!) - and he similarly was introduced to 2112 and the superb Ellen Foley album "Nightout" (I discovered via the Hunter/Ronson connection rather than Meat Loaf). Other Ian Hunter albums I enjoy: his first, of course, but also his later album "Rant". Great. As was the followup "Shrunken Heads".

Hi Maz...always look forward to these! I caught Emmylou and her Hot Band in Salinas around the same time, late 70's. I imagine you know it, "White Bicycles", by Joe Boyd is really interesting and talks all about these times. Thanks for the good vibes and tunes. BTW, spinning my records on a P-3 from the '80's. Going strong. Cheers

Saw Emmylou Harris on November 20th 2000 at the Royal Albert Hall, also Patty Griffin performed together and separately. Not many artists can sing and capture a large audience in the great RAH but the concert was wonderful. She was in fine form and played a lot of the new songs on her recent albums, especially Red Dirt Girl that was released just two months earlier 😊

I'm new to the channel so I mistook the title, and was upset when the link showed you holding You're Never Alone With A Schizophrenic. I am so glad that I watched. I think Hunter made a few bucks from Barry Manilow's of Ships. Ian's is so much more personal. and not as melodramatic. I'm going to have to listen to My Rides Here again. Like you said, there isn't a Warren Zevon album that I don't love, but I tend to listen to The Wind more these days. Zevon's sense of humor was/is one of the greatest from the time that I've been listening to the kund of music you've mentioned in the two shows that I've watched of yours, basically since February '64. Thanks for a great show.

So far, I have only got a couple of Maria's albums. And now I think I need to buy the Sun Kil Moon album. So far, I have only got the Jesu/Sun Kil Moon album, which I also love. On that Ian Hunter record , KROQ played the brooding 6 minute track Bastard often & borrowing an ideal from The Inmates who on their cover of Dirty Water cut various city names into " London Your My Home " Chrysalis had Ian change Cleveland to Detroit ..Chicago .. rocks. Pretty cool marketing.

Love Ian Hunter, getting into him in recent years. I've seen Geoff Maldur live several times in the UK in recent years. He has an amazing voice and guitar sound, even now. Never thought I'd get to see him live. His version of Motherless Chilld is, in my opinion, better than the original by Barabcue Bob. Not often, I'd say that about a cover. Also, does the best version of Tennessee Blues.

Yes, I have to listen far more to Emmylou Harris. I heard one of her albums years ago and thought it tight and graceful. Time for a deep dive. As for Ian Hunter ... you run the risk of attracting Ian Hunter super-fans like bees. We react to any wiff of love in his direction like it's nectar. 'You're Never Alone' was his greatest album of his mid-career, followed a little bit later by 'Welcome to the Club' and 'Yui Orta.' Then another slight glitch to 'The Artful Dodger' and his 25 year end run that should really earn him the Superbowl of rock artistry. Look out for 'Defiance Part II.' Us bees really, really are. Ambrosia!

Nice mention on the Emmylou album. Did you happen to see her and Daniel Lanois at the Bridge Benefit show in 1995? Just the two of them for the most part and it was legendary. Also, her performance with Spyboy at the Fillmore promoting the Wrecking Ball - I don't think music gets much better than that! Cheers from Central California!
