My life is going to be more complicated. My 44-year-old son lost his apartment, rent up too high. His disability check will not cover that. So he's coming on Thursday to live with me. I have a paid for a place but it needs work. I'm almost 70 and can't do much. Nobody expects life to take these turns. I want the best for my children, and I live without water no working well. But we're going to do this adventure together. Family takes care of family and God takes care of all of us!!! 💕

I feel for you too as I am in the same position. My son and his family were attacked and robbed and my daughter in law ended up in hospital with a cracked open skull and was rushed to theatre. They were so traumatized they moved out of their house and have moved in with us again. We got so used to being on our own and now have 6 in the house again. Hard going with 2 young grandsons too. But we will get through this. One day at a time. But as you say family looks after family when the need arises. God bless you. My son is 44 too.

I've been watching your videos on both channels for a long time now, instarted watching it purely for thr building, but over time it's become alot more than that for me, I get to watch your life as a family, and how you overcome various obstacles and challenges. I too suffer with severe anxiety, so I know how much it can affect you, and how you can be fine one moment, and a mess the next. You guys keep it real, I see that with every video, and it's been amazing watching your journey. Keep up the great work.

I understand pressure, anxiety, and depression. I wish all lifestyle stuff was a simple journey, but God has the plan and all we can do is the best we can. My escape is the beach. I have one short video of the beach/ocean. I hope you find a way to release your bad/tired/frustrated feelings. My prayers for you and your family. We love you!

Yes and for this Wife of a Navy Veteran We Navy Wives went through the same thing except Gary is home with You now Mine is estranged hubby but in 2020 He had brain 🧠 surgery and something 🫰 snapped. But GOD is ABSOLUTELY GOOD regardless. Take off Sundays Focus on Our LORD When mine were little like yours : it really helped to do Mom's day out groups and I went to a church that did Wednesday morning Bible study... During the summer they planned Saturday where My son's got to do a craft and we Mom's got a fun craft ourselves. We women are made to get together. Men can take it or leave it but we need female companionship. I think it's the way GOD made women. Naps also help. On Sundays after either take out or sit down meals. Julia can cook delegate those things. Respectfully. My3Sons now Adults in their 30's know how to cook do laundry and clean. Before they got out of Jr. High. GOD Loves You MeL: If you teach your children now how to pay attention to detail then they in turn will teach their children . Roxanne Brittany You Momma V and Jenn Mary could probably encourage each other with cooking tips and organizing ideas, It's the best thing when you can tell your own children hey we need to solve this challenge put one thing up. These Chores need to get done before supper time. Any suggestions what we could do? Let them do a round table discussion about it .with you or Gary to mediate.

I have times where everything feels overwhelming, and it literally paralyzes me into not doing anything. I understand completely. Having a KZfaq channel puts additional stress on an already stressful life. Just because you are fulfilling your dreams with building a homestead and creating strong family values doesn't mean it isn't stressful. You can't ignore that. Having those feelings doesn't make you "less than". It makes you human!

As homesteaders, first thing that comes to mind. Is call those kids over and let them move the feed bags. They are strong enough and old enough to help out. My 8 and 10 year old's with autism have homestead helping days. They can feed animals fill waters, move lumber, collect firewood and sticks keep them busy this summer. I let our boys cut out an space in the woods behind the playground we built them. 4 years later they cleared about 9:18 1/2 acre of weeds thorns bush. So my husband went and cut down 4 trees so the sun could get in there. Has kept the busy for sure.

Mel and Gary, I have known y’all personally for a couple of years now thanks to KZfaq, and being a KZfaqr myself I can honestly say from my own experiences as a person putting myself out there, being vulnerable, grinding, building, managing kids, life and the relentlessness of constantly editing, uploading, importing and trying to be creative all the while dealing with my own struggles and trying to keep it all together that y’all are as real as it gets. What you guys are trying to do is not easy. As a matter of fact, it’s one of the hardest most mentally straining things you can put yourself through. You guys are absolute Winners in life and on KZfaq because of what you are able to overcome and Any person that hasn’t walked in your shoes and who haven’t tried being a KZfaqr for years on end has no clue what it’s like and the struggles that it takes to overcome and achieve greatness. Thank you for sharing not only your journey of building your dreams but the behind the scenes and all the other things about life that make you human. Keep going, keep sharing, keep grinding, keep editing and keep doing what you are meant to do as a creator, a builder, a homesteader, a family, and all the other things that make up who are not only as a KZfaqr but as a person and the people who don’t want to be here or the ones that speak negatively about you, your life, your struggles, etc..are not the ones that you want in your KZfaq circle. Thank you for being real, authentic, humble and positive for all of us out here that are watching and learning! 👊❤️✌️

Mel & Gary compliment each other in the physical and business sides of your channels. One cannot run without the other. You both 😢should never feel that taking a well deserved break is ever wrong or makes you both feel guilty. especially if you’re overwhelmed. I own a driving school with employees and I always say when I feel like I’m working for my employees it’s time reevaluate and redirect my goals. When you start feeling the pressures of expectations set by others, it’s time to turn the camera off. It’s your lives. You decide what, when and how much you share with us all. And honestly, I watch and enjoy your videos when you upload them not according to a specific day/time. Give yourselves some grace ❤ Gary & Mel you both are an inspiration to others!

🎉 Thanks for sharing your story. Things have a way of working out and I cannot imagine how hard it is to have a KZfaq channel and all of the time it takes you to produce a 20 to 30 minute show from multiple cameras with many hours to shift through to make sure you will no go over a certain time frame. I have had this old Galaxy J7 Crown phone since 2016 and have not figured out everything that it can do. I am so scared of a much needed phone because I would have to learn something completely different the way technology has improved since 2016. I am starting to think technology is not good for many reasons but I use it every day to take care of my personal business. Take care I love all of you.

I so get what you are saying. I have ADHD, anxiety and more. Normal brained people have no idea how much mental and physical energy it takes to concentrate on multiple things at once, and focus on conversations without wandering off inside our head. I love people, but I get “peopled” out. I need to withdraw so my brain can calm down, but that was often not doable just because of family and life demands. My brain never stops spinning, but I can slow it down a bit by giving in to the feeling of overwhelm so I don’t make myself sick. Put your own oxygen on first when you need it so you can restore and replenish the energy you need to pour out into other people.

I am finding out that there are really so many people that have some form of autism and don't know because it can be very subtle. They have no emotional connection with people and I believe it to be one root of selfishness and to be so demanding. So sad. I too have a mind that won't shut down, no matter how much I manage to get done and have an awful time going to sleep at night. I spend a lot of time with the Lord, reading his promises and clinging to him for peace and relief. It helps me to remember that no matter what your plans are and the list of things you feel you need to do, we will all leave this earth with an unfinished list. Don't put so much pressure on yourself to achieve everything Mel. Prioritize basics like family, health and household and the rest is gravy! If you can't get a video out because you can't it's okay! We love you and have our own problems too. If people don't understand, they just need to move on. You are amazing people and I love you! ❤ Texas Deb

Mel, we too have really hard water. Two options come to mind that we use regularly is CLR and The Works. We have to do it all the time, but it does help remove the Iron, and in our case Lime. I did reach out to a water filtration company, who came out and tested our water. I was all for what they were telling me, until they got to the price of $4600.00 to purchase and install the needed system. Mind you, it did use salt, but no where near as much as a simple water softener would require. It was called a CE-5 system. They actually recommend not installing a reverse osmosis system before theirs was installed, as you would be burning through filters like ever week or two, and possibly damaging the pipes.

When you are introverted, social settings can drain what I call my social battery. Sometimes I will just wander off and spend a little time away. After the break, I am fine again and ready to chat and mingle. You just need to know when you need to take that time for yourself.

Not to worry Mel. We all need a mental health day from time to time. You have to take care of yourself so you can keep doing what you do. Y'all are in my prayers every day. Gary, please take care of your back. Back injuries are nothing to sneeze at. Anyone who has had a back injury understands that. We all love you and your family and want you to stay healthy.

Mel I feel like you a lot of time. Just remember tomorrow is another day to do the things you didn't get done. And they are days I feel you need to take for yourself. And sometimes it will take more than one day. I just need to take my own advice sometimes. I feel you girl. I find myself crying all the time and don't no why. Bless you and we love y'all.

Oh my sweet Mel. I know how you feel and felt so much. I was very nervous but once I met you all I was better. I’m always alone except when I’m at work which I kinda don’t like to go home lol. I love you all and can’t wait to see you again and get more hugs. ❤

Mel I totally get you. Been there, done that. Putting so much pressure on yourself comes from taking on way too much. Finding that balance between work and play can be difficult and overwhelming. Taking a step back and looking at things from a different perspective has been helpful for me. Figure out how much time you’re really ‘working’ each week, then cut that time back as it’s clearly too much to enjoy. ‘Your’ life is simply that, it’s yours. Take the magnifying glass and the pressure you’re putting on yourself and focus on what makes you happy and the rest will fall into place. Remember, it’s not your job to make everyone else happy with your content. We all love what you and Gary do, and we’ll still be here when you figure out that balance. Enjoy the summer with your kids, you only get so many when they’re young! And if you feel like working and posting a video, then that’s nice, but not expected. Don’t allow your ‘simple life’ to turn into the rat race. 🥰

Mel, I hope that the saying "a trouble shared is a trouble halved" and that you feel better for sharing with us. Please try to remember that you wear so many hats, and your roles are many. It is not surprising that you get tired and overrun at times. True friends and subscribers will fully understand that you need more down time on occasion. Look forward to seeing you feeling refreshed, reset and raring to tackle life again head on very soon. Until then be as kind to yourself as you are to others xx

Mel, getting overloaded emotionally is part of life, and the boo hooing lets the stress, emotions out. It’s a good thing. Don’t beat yourself up for being normal. Having said that I noticed something missing from your life. Please take some time every week and get away from the homestead. Get together with women friends and family and do something fun and not homestead related. I remember at one time in my life I met a group of women that were not connected with my job. And, we went to lunch together and those lunches could last two hours. I really miss those as they really helped us cope with life, laugh, and laugh, and recharge. It was the non-organized sharing in a group that recharged our batteries. For the short amount of time, the benefit was priceless.

I know the overwhelmed/burnt out feeling. Scaling back and simplifying is needed. Doing too much all the time is detrimental. Can I offer some outside advice...Get rid of the rabbits, don't get the goats, and instead of angling out the roof to match the deck angle, just have the porch roof come straight off the roof. Also, truly consider doing a PBR metal roof instead of standing- seam....standing-seam is very complicated and requires folding metal and sounds stressful. We _were_ going to do standing-seam on our roof until we realized how complex it was so we stepped down to PBR metal panels and we did it. They do sell awesome screws these days that will last a very long time. Certain viewers over the last few years have gotten a lot more mean and impatient on Yotube than they used to - I don't know what happened, but it's different. We ALWAYS get people asking "What About this or what about that" and the "WHEN" comments...and we just tell them..."when the time is right", basically. Things will get done on OUR TIME, not THEIRS. It's our life, our time, our money, our labor, OUR STORY, not theirs. The reason we opened our 2nd channel was to share our random stuff that many our regular viewers never wanted to see on our main channel. They gave us such a hard time whenever we showed random vloggy/personal stuff, but we WANTED to share certain things with everyone and it frustrated us that we had no place to share it...so 2nd channel it was. The ONLY product that works for iron stains is "IRON OUT". We had horrible NASTY staining water in Michigan, and "IRON OUT" worked great....just spray it on and you can watch the stains disappear. But most of the time we just let it be orange and said oh well. I barely cleaned that tub. No point in cleaning it just to have it get yellow the next day.

Heya Mel and Gary! Remember that simple life + happy family - internet trolls = Happy Life! Honest people that watch your channel do understand you have a life outside of KZfaq and respect that because if we were in your shoes we would expect the same! All those others that demand or complain or whine about you do or not doing are just lost! And typically are people looking for something in the world to take out their frustrations on so their own lives dont feel as bad! Me and my wife follow you for what ever it is you decide to share with us! If you decide to put a build video up great! If you decide to put a animal video up great! Mel... just tell yourself the next time you feel fear or down because of trolls on the internet that "Who are they to judge you for something they have nothing to do with!". Yall keep on keepin on! Keep your heads up! Yall have come a long way in this adventure! Use that as your fuel or reason to continue and to fight for your success! You can do this! We have faith that you will!

I first started watching you, IDK, 100 years ago when the algorithm steered me toward your video where you had a big disaster getting your foundation poured. I’m sure you remember. I had been subscribed to Wild Wonderful Off Grid for awhile and you guys came up. I’m admitting now that I was watching a successful couple building their dream house and now I was interested in what looked to me at the time to be a “lower-budgeted” family struggling. Contrasting yet similar premises. Shortly afterwards, I watched one of your live episodes that went kind of badly and you two were getting angry and frustrated with one another. As a wise man once said “I ain’t gonna lie” I started watching regularly just to see the drama and infighting. I didn’t know any of your back story then, none of your goals, no previous vlogs leading up to those moments, etc. So I subscribed and then started watching your earlier stuff and realized that when I got on the 41.36 train to Arkansas, it was at a time when it was going through a tunnel. There was plenty of light before the tunnel and even more light to come after the tunnel. This past week or so for you has just been another little tunnel to get through. The train hasn’t stopped, just slowed down a bit for safety reasons, but it’s still moving and the next destination is coming up, maybe later than scheduled, but it’s coming. Meanwhile, I’m still watching, still subscribed, and it can’t be for my original reason of low expectations because I haven’t seen anything to suggest any outcome of this train ride except forward progress and life’s goals being achieved one at a time.

Don't worry Mel, Your being hard on yourself. We all have days like that. You shouldn't feel like you have to produce a video every single day. To me that doesn't sound normal, I enjoy watching you & the rest of the "Framilly", because you all are real, you do real, and guess what real means good days and bad days. Try and have a good day for you, that's it, have a you day! Love ya girl!
