Hi Graham, thanks as always for your comments. Yeah this was actually a tricky road due to the big potholes on the right steep corners. It was such a great day and we enjoyed every minuet of it. Cheers Sean and Emily

Hi Gary, yeah will be lots of fun on the Himalayan (we sat on one at a show and we must say it was comfortable and had space for us both) This little road was super fun, not in the best condition though but that does stop a lot of cars from using it =) Hope you have a great trip!

Nice to have two sets of eyes on the road eh. I like how you guys share the driving, sort of. Does Emily ride her own bike? My girl friend saved us both from a serious accident without saying a word. She was riding pillion. I'd stopped at a intersection. Looked both ways and was just letting the clutch out when I felt her tense up. I hesitated as a result. Good thing I did. Another motorcycle went went by going 60 in a 25 mph zone.

Hi David, yeah you are absolutely right. There’s often occasions where Em will let me know if there’s something coming on the road ahead (especially on switchbacks). Yeah Em does have her own bike but we always tour two up. Good job your girlfriend was on the lookout, you don’t expect people to be travelling that fast!😬.

Just out of curiosity, why not include the Slovene name as well? [Vrh Krnice]
@SeanandEmily
@SeanandEmily 8 ай бұрын
No Reason, i guess we rode it from the Italian side so the signposts we saw where in Italian =)
@HibikiKano

@@SeanandEmily As good a reason as any. Maybe I'm just a bit more of a stickler about mentioning both names in bilingual areas. But considering the valiant efforts both nations put into the successful normalisation of relations after ww1 and ww2 invasions and the slow réintégration of both bilingual groups into the wider former bilingual area and tight cooperation, I think it's best we all try to do our part in it if possible :)

Thanks for sharing your insights, so the Italian named 'Sella Carnizza' pass which currently is in Italy is called Vrh Krnice in Slovenian? Did this land used to be part of Slovenia? -it's hard to keep track sometimes =) Cheers

@@SeanandEmily You are welcome. And eee it's more complicated than that. All of current Slovenia as well as northeast part of Italy was Austrian. heartlands before WW1. At the time of Italian unification, the King of Piemont had an appetite to regain all the lands long lost by Venice or even the Roman empire, something Italy tried again in WW1 and again in WW2. But those lands have been ethnically mixed for over millennium. In WW1 tens of thousands of Slovenes were relocated not to démoralisé Italian soldiers who noticed they are fighting on foreign soil instead of fighting to "save italian people abroad" as was told they are doing. A war where over a million died along the Isonzo/Soča front. What followed was a loss of most of the mixed lands to Italy and a brutal supression of the Slovene language and ethnicity. Many Italiany left the deaper parts of Slovenia and Croatia for Italy in fear of the same. WW2 brought out the worst though. Italy pushed it's invasion capturing all the way to Ljubljana, starting quite extensive concentration camps where tens of tousands were interned and starved to death. Slovene partisans retaliated just for Italian soldiers to gun down whole towns in return. Plans were coined to remove all the population of the Italian occupied half of Slovenia eventually. Luckily Italy fell before the plan kicked into action. Both sides ranked quite some war crimes by then. Even after the war both nations asked the international community to prosecute those war crimes, it never happened. Countless killed and were never dealt with. Even after the war for quite some time resentments were still quite high on both sides. Train tracks dug out, roads closed trade stopped. A very dark bit of history. One that we are both trying daily to overcome and slowly step by step inching to carefully piece together what happened and heal what happened. Sp far its going well and we are now eachothers closest economic partners, military allies. And I hope we keep on this path. But such silly things like remembering eachothers names are a daily reminder not to repeat that ever again. A ritual that will hopefilly help us get back to the mix we had on both sides. Ah sorry if it sounded bit grim :/
@SeanandEmily
@SeanandEmily 8 ай бұрын
Hi, thanks for your reply! As grim as it is, it's history and important to know. I think the history of smaller countries like Slovenia are often overlooked in the mainstream documentaries. I must say i had no idea about that and again thanks for the information. It's great that Slovenia has made a great effort to move on and it's one of our favorite places to visit in Europe- there's always a good feeling when we cross over into Slovenia. cheers Sean and Emily
