Gab Marcotti joins Steve Nicol, Frank Leboeuf, Alejandro Moreno and Dan Thomas on ESPN FC to reflect on Italy's run to the Euro 2020 title after failing to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. The Azzurri defeated England in a penalty shootout in the final at Wembley Stadium to claim their first European Championship since 1968.
0:00 The best team in the tournament won.
1:20 How much credit goes to Roberto Mancini?
2:51 Mancini's dramatic change to the Italian way of playing football.
3:44 Italy won as a collective, but has a bunch of star power.
5:08 How Mancini's Italy differs from his club sides, like Lazio, Manchester City and Inter Milan.
6:45 Is there any scenario where Mancini is not coaching the Azzurri at the 2022 World Cup (if they qualify)?

just for correct information, we won the first 2 titles (1934 1938) as a superaggressive team, with a module called "sistema" which was the forefather of 4-3-3 that Mancini is using. Catenaccio was born after WWII and the "tragedia di Superga" (where most of the national tema died in a plane crash), and already in 2006 the module was nothing connected with it. About population: Italy has more or less the same citizens as France and slightly bigger than England. And incidentally more world and european titles (and finals) than the two together :)

Actually, i am prouder of that "cowardice" if I compare to how the wide majority of germans followed Hitler in his crimes. We fought WWI with UK and France (and Russia) and our long-time enemy was Austria. The guy let us attack our brothers of Greece, infamously aggress the French and Brits that were comrades 20 yerars before, and nonsensly expedite to Russia...would you die for this? I wouldn't compare Italy to Man City, Barcelona, Bayern... I'd compare Italy to Atalanta and Sassuolo, with some more experienced players. And I don't want to make this comparison to underestimate Italy... I just want to point out how Italian's "provinciali" little teams grown up and put some solid base on Italian's football. Atalanta has I think around 14/15 players on national teams who played the European Championship or Copa America, and they did quite well overall. Gossens, Miranchuk, Malinovski, Freuler, De Roon, Muriel, Zapata... And of course Pessina and Toloi. Mancini has a tremendous impact on the the mentality, but part of the credit should go to managers like Gasperini and De Zerbi.

Gareth has brought new Energy and Rhythm with Fast Attacking Model (FAM) which has never been done before,,England well known with their long ball and makes everyone bored..But see how gareth changed into fast attacking mode being able to beat anyone including Germany as more and more chances produced by every players with such Fast Model..Penalty is 50-50..Even Super Star also failed...Lets move Forward for WC 2022. its very close and for sure coming home now if the same Team and squad maintained..No Arguments yaa

they’re not superstars simply because of the media. Italy had the most skilled team

Well, the other European teams have now experienced Italy. Soon time for the world to join into the fray. I'm glad that Italy won, but they are going to have to really analyse their game against Spain. I'm sure their future opponents will be doing that. Congrats Italy !! Well done Mr. Mancini !!

Unreal seeing Italy playing this way. The press, the ball retention and the want to go and get another goal after scoring. Sure the steely defensive side still there when we need to defend or see out a game last 10 mins but Mancini deserves so many plaudits IMO

Funny how scrolling through this comment section you will only see people praising Italy as the perfect team ever when the very same people described Italy at average at best up until semifinals and that it couldn’t stand a chance again “BIG ONES” and when they only discussed about France Portugal and Belgium being favorites
