Please never polish these too much. The mashed together vlog-like style of them and the kinda chaotic energy of that really resonates with me and I think it sets you apart from other like motivational or workout influencers. It's just so real and for some reason seeing your frustration and exhaustion makes me want to start working out again way more than anyone else's perfect aesthetics have

Cyclist here, a professional bike fit will make the bike much more comfortable to ride, helps prevent injuries, and makes you more efficient pedaling! Be cautious when first attempting to clip in/out outdoors, most cyclist including myself have tipped over multiple times clipping/unclipping! Lastly make sure you get some practice riding in TT position, it can take a bit to get used to being hunched over. I’m loving the series! Keep at it :)

I think he already had that mindset for a long time. He was once a top tier diver in college at Duke and he says he has muscle memory from it. He also has been a runner for awhile. I don't think we will learn it from him because some people it just comes natural to lol. My best advice is self-care the night before and a reward for yourself after.

Seems like his whole family has the mindset which certainly makes it easier than for people who don’t come from that background but I’ve heard for anyone, consistency is key, not getting down on yourself when you aren’t reaching goals or your finding yourself not enjoying it as much as other times. Keep persisting and your body will adjust accordingly!

Your FTP will jump a bunch in the first couple months of riding! But also, you should get a bike fit! Your seat looks a bit high and set a bit far back! I would try moving it forward a bunch so the clamp at the top of the seat post is close to the center of the rails of the seat, and then moving the seat down a tiny bit, that will also just increase your FTP for free as the position is more ergonomic!

The butt pain is usually way worse on the stationary trainer than on rides outside when you are not used to it. On a tri bike like this a bike fit will help a lot as well. If you can, try to ride outside ever so often as well to develop your all around bike handling skills (and the rides are not as boring). Love these videos, they are so inspiring and fun to watch. Thank you for recording this journey for us!

A couple things re cycling: - Butt and nut pain. Others have mentioned already, but try out different bibs. There are different levels of padding. You might need more padding. Also, don’t be afraid to test out different saddles. It’s normal to not like your first one. Also, consider getting a professional bike fit. This will help distribute your weight properly on the bike, taking some of the pressure away from the saddle. Finally, stand up every once and awhile when you get some pain, if needed. Avoid numbness. - consider getting a beater road bike as a second bike that doesn’t have clip pedals just to get used to shifting and riding. Ride around and develop technique and understanding of how your bike works on the beater. You’ll be less afraid of making mistakes and it would allow you to more casually get used to the sport. That tri bike you got there is some serious business. It’s cool seeing someone get into this. I NEVER thought I’d be a cyclist. Always thought I’d just use it for commuting/practical reasons. But now I do it every opportunity I get. It’s addicting and fun. There’s a good chance you’ll love it, considering you seem to like other endurance sports.

Hi Cody! Fellow runner here with some nutrition advice! My advice would be on days when you are having two workouts or long runs load up your dinner the night before with lots of carbs and protein. This will fill your glycogen stores for the next day and prevent you from losing energy during your workouts. The morning of having something that’s heavier in carbs but light in volume can help to keep your energy up during the workouts. I would also suggest looking into nutrition for during your workouts (gels, gummies, etc). These would be best for during long bikes and runs (typically anything over and hour and a half.) Taking these every 45 mins during a long bike or run can help to refill glycogen stores and get you through without crashing or hitting the wall. A lot of nutrition is also trial and error and every person is different. I would encourage you to give lots of options a try and see what works for you and your schedule. Loving this training content! Good luck with your workouts!

Cats will definitely learn your habits and exploit them :) If it's not too difficult, you could try varying what time your alarm goes off (like within hour/hour and a half) so that they can't learn your schedule. Same thing with eating times, if they get fed at the same time every day they'll definitely learn to anticipate it and will get annoying around those times.

As an “ex-competitive cyclist” I’ll just say, it’s fucking terribly hard work at first… then at some weird point your body kinda mutates. But I just remember being surprised how brutal a my first 26 mile ride was. I was super fit from running and dancing, but cycling is just different and I swear most things just don’t translate over much to cycling strength. I thought I’d never get used to it, but I did. Just don’t go to insane with training at first, because cycling is a way more involved sport than most other things. Easy to get burned out I feel like. Because it’s just just the miles and recovery… it’s because it’s not like running where you just throw on your running shoes and go on a run. You have to do so much more to get ready for a training ride, plan the route, dress differently and have different layers depending on your elevation in all the weather changes due to the elevation. And if it’s going to rain you have to account for if it stops and then you’re wet with wind chill getting to you… so layers you can take on and off. It’s just a super involved sport that can cost a fortune. I loved it when I did it. It just takes a special kind of person. Have fun!

Bike Guy here, the most important thing I would recommend is to ride outside as much as possible, and on lots of different terrain. Nothing beats the real thing. Also, if you are ever sore between your legs, try using chamois butter, it can really help. And, with clipless pedals, try clipping in and out on a soft surface like grass before your first ride. Be ready to fall! Anyway, very inspiring to see you beginning this journey. Keep it up!

hi cody!! here's a tip for nutrition: protein keeps you full so start your day with a high protein breakfast! fruits are great too for the carbs & natural sugars to give you energy. if you want sweet, maybe try oikos triple zero yogurt with a banana & cinnamon or berries mixed in! or french toast made with egg whites and fruits/nut butter on top . if you want savory you could make a quick stir fry with chicken or salmon and a side salad with some fruit on the side. or an omelette, wrap, literally anything. either way, just make sure you're getting your protein to keep you satiated and carbs to give you energy! love these videos by the way!! as someone who also recently started putting more focus into health & fitness, these videos feel like they came to me at the perfect time. still waiting for the model trains though 😫

Keep it up, sometimes it's hard to see when no one points it out, but you're an inspiration! Regarding the nutrition, with the amount of calories you're burning, I would increase your calorie intake. please never stop this channel. it's keeping me motivated and accountable with my running journey. however I suggest posting surfing content if ur up for it, speaking very selfishly as I am also a long-term but mediocre surfer

Cody is motivating us to literally set goals and stick with them no matter what, not just for fitness but in general and I think that’s a pretty cool side quest tbh 💯(honestly some 🔥 house music lowkey gets me pushin through bike rides)

not a dietitian or nutritionist but i do know a good amount about nutrition-after a workout, especially one as intense as yours, i would add more carbs to your lunch. you could add a smoothie with lots of fruit or some sort of grain like rice, quinoa, or farro. carbs are very important for recovery. otherwise, the lunch looks great! also, i would suggest eating a larger breakfast (if you can) or more calorie dense meals to increase your calorie intake since your calorie expenditure is very large. a great way to make this easier is to do some kind of meal prep like making overnight oats or cookie something like rice or meat at the beginning of the week

Just did a sprint length duathlon on Sunday after signing up 4 weeks out with no prior endurance training... I loved it though and am going for a full length triathlon next summer. Love these videos and feel like I'm going to be learning right along side you. Keep going dude!

Bike looks too big for you Cody, you’re pretty stretched out trying to reach the handlebar. You might also try lowering your seat a bit so your toe isn’t pointed down at the bottom of the pedal stroke. That’ll also help with the butt bruising. Keep it up! This is fun content.

Love the channel! I'm training for my first full ironman right now too. Some tips from an intermediate cyclist/triathlete: - Agree with others recommending you adjust your position or get someone to do a bike fit. You look like you're reaching a fair bit forward when you're on your bars, so you'll probably need to shift your seat forward at least - Get a fan for when you're on the indoor trainer, even if you've got AC. I live in a similar climate to California and I have two. They help regulate your temperature and dissipate sweat when you don't have the wind keeping you cool like when you're riding outside - Your FTP is good! And it'll get better as your muscle efficiency improves on the bike. - Make sure you fuel your long rides (and runs) properly. Drink fluids with carbs or eat gels/gummy bears during the workout, and make sure you replace carbs afterwards to refuel for tomorrow's workout. Have a look at Strava and see how much calories you burn and you'll get an idea of just how much energy you use. You're trying to build yourself stronger, not break yourself down. - Enjoy yourself! If riding on the trainer is getting monotonous, mix it up with outdoor rides if you're comfortable and it's safe. It will help with bike handling as well, and getting used to riding on hills and different wind conditions. If you're on the trainer, watch TV/movies/youtube/listen to podcasts on your steady endurance rides. - Being in the TT bars is important on race day to go faster with less effort, but build up to it over time. Start with short periods on your easy rides, and increase the time until you're comfortable holding the position. Then do some of your power workout intervals in that position to get used to putting out more watts in that position. Keep in mind it will be harder to put out as much power, but this is OK! Anyway, probably enough tips there. Hope you enjoy your training! Don't get bogged down in the little things, the biggest gains will come from showing up every day and being consistent.
