I first heard this as a teenager. Then I was busy, busy, busy having a great time and before I knew it I was late 20's. I blinked a few times and I was late 30's. Then late 40's. Holy shit, what was happening? Then again when I was late 50's. Every single time I heard it, it meant something different to me. Now I'm late 60's and, while I'm not warming my bones before the fire, I can hear those church bells tolling out for funerals as my friends are dropping life flies. Damn, where has all the time gone? Cheers. Pink Floyd fan for life!

Amen to that! John Lennon once said: "Life is what happens while we're busy making other plans." I thought Wow, now he understands?! Then Pink Floyd threw this one out there and it was at this point that I assumes every one must be aware of this "Time" phenomenon. For some reason I believed that the Akipping Away of Time was only happening to me, up to that point?! Please, live your life as though Time were your most precious commodity... because it is! Want Proof? Okay, well, you will never get that second, that just past, back again... or that one either... or that one...or...

I was lucky enough to have seen Pink Floyd in concert on their Division Bell Tour in 1994 which was their last tour as Pink Floyd. Let me set the scene. It was a misty evening at the Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts. As soon as the concert started, nobody seemed to care about the light rain falling as the laser lights cut through the misty sky and the quadraphonic sound filling the packed to capacity stadium. It took some time to recover emotionally from that concert as I'm sure it would a Nightwish concert. By far, the best concert I had ever seen in my lifetime. Thank you for that reaction. Now, just imagine seeing a full show.......

@@joaocardoso8453 there is Pink Floyd and there is the rest of them. After Pink Floyd you can argue who is the best. How true that is. I'm 51, divorce, son turned 18 and moved out, had to leave my career recently as I have been diagnosed with a neurological disorder. Every morning I wake up alone have my coffee and think how did I get here. Make through the day, go to bed alone. Wake up in disbelief that this really is my life now. It's good that my son is finding his own in the world and I am happy for him. But I still wake up every morning to dead silence... Nobody knows when things can change. It isn't one massive change, it is a slow series of events and then you realize that everything slipped through your fingers..... Any single mum's out there please remember to take care of yourself, develop hobbies make friends even if babysitters are expensive and don't believe that your career is you it was what you once did. It ends. Maybe I should have settled to have less of a demanding career thinking I would make our lives easier. All I invested in was my career and my son's life. I remember when he was born thinking, what a bittersweet relationship you have with your child: it is the only relationship you have where you work towards preparing them to Leave and move on as a healthy adult, that's the goal....it is what it is meant to be. I forgot to prepare myself to be left alone ,I should have invested more time on myself, it felt like there just wasn't enough time and that I was being selfish. I wish I had had a older woman mentor that could have warned me or at least quietly remind me. Ends are just beginnings that haven't started yet. I will find my footing when the shock wears off. :-)

When you’re young you think you will live forever and you chill and party and you never think you’re going to die. But as you get into work and life and routines you suddenly look up and wonder where all the years went. But the thing is, as you age time seems to get shorter and the days faster. When I was a kid a year seemed like an aeon, now it seems like a minute. Then you get old and the only things left is ‘warming your bones beside the fire’. I am 54 and only started to appreciate the meaning of this song as I aged. Each one of us is a unique creature and we all should think about each other more, not as adversaries but fellow travellers in a life that we have no knowing how we came to be and what will happen to us when we are no more. So, I am trying to share kindness as much as possible with others because we don’t do it enough. Just my thoughts 😊

A few years ago, when Pink Floyd were remixing Dark Side for true 5.1, David Gilmore stated, that the stereo version of Dark Side that we have known for years, is actually three (3) generations down. Which means engineer Alan Parsons filled up one 2-inch, 16-track tape, then mixed that tape to two open tracks on a second 2-inch, 16-track tape then, filled then that tape with overdubs, then mixed the second tape to two open tracks on a third 2-inch, 16-track tape and filled that third tape with overdubs, then mixed that third tape to the two channel (stereo) master we have today. That's when I realized why Alan Parsons has won so many awards.

The 60s and 70s in UK were amazing. At the time I just accepted it without much thought. But behind the great bands and songs, was a massive technological change, valves to transistors to microchips which had a huge impact on sound engineering. Stereo alone, changed a huge amount simply the cost came down enough for people to buy "stereos".

@@1221tesla With Floyd that is a given. To me it is very interesting how. Syd was the writer then we had an aimless period When Roger matured to move into the writing role than when he left David had to put off his issues to do the same. I like basically all 4 era's The aimless time doesn't get the respect it deserves some of my favorite songs come from More and Atom heart mother and of course Meddle. @@1221tesla It is in some ways. It is one of those things where you can see the greatness about to happen but did not get there. It ended up being the driving force to push the band in a different direction later. In some ways, he went from the driving force in Pink Floyd to the inspiration of Pink Floyd. I have listened to Syd's solo stuff I couldn't really get into it I need to set some time for another go at it.

This song comes from one of the 2 best rock operas of the 70s, Dark Side of the Moon. (other rock opera is Quadrophenia-Who). This song leads into another banger called Great Gig in the Sky. The entire album was meant to be listened to start to finish but Time and Gig in the Sky are particularly connected. Try listening to Time and Gig back to back sometime.

The intro is the moments that make up a dull day ;) Classic PF. Language on another level. From cradle (waking up with the alarm clocks), to the grave, (tolling of the iron bell). The only control you have is what you do with it in the moments between these two things.

You are such a sweet girl, may i kiss your cheek? And Dark Side of the Moon is a masterpiece of classic rock! Their earlier work were much more psychedelic and spacey, but also great in their own right. On DSotM i actually like "Any Colour You Like" the most, for that reason being spacey and yet also very harmonic still! You ought to hear their album "Division Bell" from 1994, also! That one is easier to access, but still withkeeping their old sound and style! Cheers to all Floydies and may Richard Wright rest in peace! -Sanctus Laurentius

You got it! Such a superb piece of music. As you get older time absolutely flies, one gathers so many, many regrets. Things you should have done, things you wish you had done! Trust me, I am 69, they can keep you awake! I had no idea that I would end here and had no aim to do so either. Looking back I can see where a little thought would have changed the outcome. Anyone to blame ? Oh yeah, me, I thought I had all the time in the world! I thought I could repair the damage in my own time but my time was not their time. Ah, the arrogance of youth, wasted on the young! Please remember that each decision will have repercussions that affect many people. I am not advising forgetting to enjoy yourself, this is the time, but give thought to your decisions regarding relationships. If it does not feel "right" then it probably is not. If it does - take care of your heart but take a chance. Only You will know! Enjoy your life and may not a bad word enter it.

George Bernard Shaw said, "Youth is wasted on the young". It was so easy to piss away my 20s. Now I'm 56 and I look at "old" people and realize that they're my age. I listen to a "new" song and realize that it's 25 years old. I think about something that happened a few years ago and realize that it has been 15 years since it happened. It goes so fast - and accelerates geometrically. Start living now. I think about being 23 and it seems like yesterday.

Your exactly right, I think the reason people waist there time, is because when you think about the things you want to accomplish in you life, it's very overwhelming, and you end up doing nothing, instead of putting one foot in front of the other and starting the process, so you just dream about all these things and you turn around and your already in your 30s and you realize all you've done is dream about these things.

I think you have a good understanding of the song. Life is too short and time gets away from you before you even start thinking about it. I think it's emotionally dangerous to stress about it, but this song is a reminder to appreciate the years you have and spend them living, whatever that means to you, instead of preparing to live. I do think you have the time scale a little off, but that's a common misunderstanding of the young. As you age, you'll see that there's still plenty of living to do, no matter how many years have passed.
