So the airport was not locked down, nor were aircraft movements all halted. It only takes a few clickbait strikes like this and suddenly ITV KZfaq becomes worthless.

Although it's absolutely right to declare emergency and have equipment standing by, one faulty engine is nothing people should be scared about. The plane could have still make it to New York, yet alone land savely in Heathrow. It's a safety percaution. I wish ITV would have emphasized on that instead of fear-mongering.

@@kickedinthecalfbyacow7549 Why is that? The plane is certified to fly 5.5 hours on one engine alone, it arguably could fly the whole trip on it. It doesnt mean it should, there's a reason an emergency landing is standart procedure after an engine failure. But like about everything else on a commercial plane, engines are redundant.

@@kalebrosenberg8294 I’m not sure where you got 5 1/2 hours from. However when a two engine aircraft loses one engine it cannot go as high or as fast as it can go with two engines, its fuel range is significantly reduced, therefore (only considering fuel range) it could not have made it to New York. There are plenty of other reasons as well. Hope that helps.

@@kickedinthecalfbyacow7549 ah good point, thanks. Yeah I think that certification I read about is from the NTSB and is set in place to ensure a plane with an engine failure can divert to the nearest airport in time.
