Le projet du professeur Itzhak Fried porte sur la transformation de groupes d'individus auparavant non violents en meurtriers de victimes sans défense, un phénomène récurrent dans l'histoire.
En 1997, le professeur Fried a proposé que cette transformation radicale du comportement humain soit caractérisée par un ensemble de signes et de symptômes suggérant un syndrome commun, le syndrome E (Fried, Lancet, 1997). Il a avancé un modèle de "fracture cognitive" pour expliquer l'effondrement des mécanismes cérébraux qui permettent une telle transformation. Son travail actuel vise à réévaluer ce modèle à la lumière des conflits récents tels que ceux en Ukraine et au Moyen-Orient et à examiner la vulnérabilité du cerveau humain dans la négociation du trop-plein d'informations produites par les médias sociaux et les agents d'intelligence artificielle qui entraînent la polarisation et l'extrémisme.

Professor Fried's project looks at the transformation of groups of previously nonviolent individuals into repetitive killers of defenseless members of society has been a recurring phenomenon throughout history.
In 1997 Prof. Fried proposed that this radical transformation in human behavior is characterized by a set of signs and symptoms suggesting a common syndrome, Syndrome E (Fried, Lancet, 1997). He proposed a model of “cognitive fracture” for breakdown of brain mechanisms enabling such transformation. His current project aims to reevaluate this model in light of recent conflicts such as those in the Ukraine and the Middle East and examine the human brain vulnerability in negotiating overflow of information produced by social media and artificial intelligent agents resulting in polarization and extremism.
