All these comments about Diana not being excited about getting accepted to Harvard are really annoying me. Just because a school is really prestigious and has a low acceptance rate doesn't make it the best thing that's ever existed for anyone who gets in. Just like any other college, you should go to the college you think best fits your personality and academic goals. Acceptance to Harvard isn't necessarily the most amazing success anyone could ever have. We all have different dreams; mine is to go to Cornell. I don't even like Harvard that much and haven't even considered applying at all. Sorry for that rant but Harvard just isn't the best fit for everyone.

actually, I would say Sophie's father wanted Sophie to get into Yale much more than Sophie herself did. Sophie's father was the one who made her study for her SATs and make a good college app. Sophie on the other hand, wanted to have fun and hang out with her friends.

It's all about being well-rounded. Colleges don't want a 4.0 GPA kid with amazing SAT scores. They'd rather take a kid with a 3.8 gpa, decent SAT scores, sports, and club/organizations.

I would be so mad if I was Sophie- at her father. "You did? Not even deferred? How do you know? " Well duh, because I just read the freakin' letter. I'd be upset if I had just gotten rejected from my top choice school, and my father second-guessing my intelligence in reading wouldn't help. but then again, she didn't deserve to get into those schools.

@U2becommenter he didn't get into Penn; he got into Millersville University of Pennsylvania. It's a different school. It was kind of hard for me to hear him but I searched it.

when i got my harvard acceptance all i read from the email was "we are pleased..." and then i started bawling

To everyone complaining that Diana didn’t want to go to Harvard you have to remember that it’s her life and she’s worked *VERY* hard to get into a good uni of her choice so why waste all that work on a uni she doesn’t like?

@TheTastynoob You are completely oblivious. The acceptance rate greatly depends on what major you are willing to apply for, or what kind of interests in the fields of studies you have. For example, it would be definately much harder to get into Yale if you're applying as a Law student, but Yale won't stand a chance compared to Harvard when they compete in areas such as applied/theoretical mathletics and medical departments (primary research)

im takin 1 AP as a freshman and all honors classes but my grades arent reflecting Ivy league material. im also doing science olympiads, science explorers, christian club, mathletes and french club. im going to do winter and spring track. in middle school i got above 95 always. now im in hs taking advanced classes and im getting low 80's. should i be worried? oh and im black

She said she did it for her mother (and also for her ego). Besides, in the chance that Yale rejected her and Harvard accepted her, Harvard would obviously be her second choice.

I know how you all feel, but you guys should look at it from her point of view. With her family, she probably hasn't been able to choose a lot for herself. This is her future, and she wanted to choose it for herself, despite how good Harvard is/what her parents want.

Think in Diana's shoes though. Say if you applied to UC Berkeley and UCLA, and your parents really want you to go to Berkeley, but you really wanted to go to UCLA instead, and you were checking your Berkeley decision online with your parents next to you, and it says you got in.
