Sophie really shot herself in the foot. Saying her high school doesn't challenge her and she is bored there. Red flag, right there. That is sheer arrogance, saying I'm smarter than everyone. Nobody is great at everything, school included. All four of these kids didn't handle interviews well.

Sophie is actually a good student. However, she screwed her interview because she basically lacked common sense. And her parents are to blame for that. Just look at other videos: Seventeen years of her life were just devoted to excellence and resume-padding, without ever understanding what those excellences really mean for her. Her parents did not teach her that. Her past community didn’t even teach her that. Why? Just see the video before this, “I thought enormous responsibility to be a good example for others because I’ve NEVER FELT SO RESPECTED before.” Environment significantly shapes a person(AKA Universal truth). It’s too sad for her. If she had had a good college application mentor, or someone who were truly sympathetic for her, she would have gotten in at least one Ivy school.

Sophie seemed quite stuck-up in her interview. Actually, she just seems stuck-up as a person in general. As for Mike, he seems like a really cool guy, but he had pretty low scores, and he seemed kind of clumsy with the interview. I'm rooting for Mike, but it's not looking good.

How come they filmed Mike's and Sophie's interviews (which both went horribly wrong) while Diana's and Michelle's weren't shown at all? Just found it weird

No questions? Literally 2/3 of my interview I just had was based on questions I had about my alumni, school, and local surroundings. In fact, half of it was on biking!

Honestly, Yale’s way of interviewing here is actually so cool and i think it really makes the whole thing so much more casual and relaxed

The hardest words to hear during this whole documentary were "Is okay if you fax them back to me?" LIKE SERIOUSLY! What made her say such a dumb thing! I had to stop watching, that is something you do NOT say! If you bring someone be prepared to part with it.

(*Columbia) Getting an interview has nothing to do with how good your application is at Columbia. Interviews are offered based on whether or not an interviewer would be available in your area.

I think so. Im pretty sure the producers wanted to give different scenarios for Asian American students. Not just ones like Diana.

The vast majority of these kids had zero social skills. Very poor communication skills.

Mike is an example of what not to be/do when applying to Ivy Leagues... i'm sorry but how can you miss the required 2 SAT Subject Tests... please review your app before submitting most especially to Ivies... and 1400 is not going to cut it... 2360 sometimes even get rejected

@futuredoc2020 Basically, Ivy League interviews are available to only so many people, since alumni are obviously not going to be situated in every location. So, if you're not asked for an interview, it does not mean you have less of a chance. This is why Mike's statement that Columbia's interested in him because he got contacted for an interview is wrong. Being contacted merely means that there were alumni in your area who had the time to interview you.

Instead of asking someone where GearHart ( I don't know if I spelled it out right) is, Mike goes wondering on a big ass campus wasting precious interview minutes.

Lol. Only 4 of the 15 schools I applied to even HAD the option to interview (WashU, USC, Georgetown, Brandeis). Crazy to think that if you applied to 4-5 of these ivies you would need to interview at each one.

If the interviewer says I'd like to keep these, you let her keep them. They are the boss. She had no personality in the interview.

Plus it makes you sound like you have an inflated sense of your abilities, which is definitely the wrong attitude if you're headed to schools like these

sophia sophia sophia.... although her grades/test scores are high, i dont think her mind is in the right place. she acts kind of superficial, like when she talks about her dreams and such, she replies as a robot would. there's no passion, like the other girl who was talking about saving a life and how it would make her feel good just to know that someone is alive because of her, and i think thats what colleges look for the most in the sea of highly qualified applicants

Asian parents have such a terrible understanding of how difficult college admissions are these days. And they always think their kids are better than all the other thousands of kids applying.

Same! I go to an incredibly competitive school and you don't get an A unless you WORK. Also, why is everyone getting astronomically high SAT scores. It makes me feel insecure with my 2290 lol.

That's the first walking interview I've ever seen. Doing that for 90 minutes is amazing! Good for Diana but it's bring back the bad memories of my own rejections.

seeing these guys stress out so hard to accomplish their parents' goals for them is just sad. from what i see, they dont truly KNOW who they are. the second gal was so caught up in the fact that she had to get into her "dream school" that she never once stopped to think what she was going to ACTUALLY DO when she gets there. once theyre in, they feel accomplished. for what? to be a book worm nerd for your school? then graduate to live a subpar lifestyle with a little extra cash? some life 2 live

Sophie was really awkward and rude. That is NOT how you act around an alumnus of a prestigious school. Don't bring your crap if you're not willing to hand it over. You could have made a copy of it yourself beforehand. Also, you're supposed to ask questions specific to the person, not about the school in general. God, no wonder why she didn't get in anywhere. It's like she wasn't even trying.

Extra cash? Talk about a six figure salary right out of college. They are coming from the most prestigious schools of America, that's no easy task. I would gladly sacrifice my four years of "fun" time to achieve my goals and dreams.

You're both wrong. His 2nd score was actually 1350/1600. Mike sucked at math and couldn't his scores up. Pause at the video where it showed his actual score report.
