J Krishnamurti - The Real Revolution - 3. Freedom from fear
Passion is needed to understand the whole complex problem of existence. This passion cannot be supplied by the intellect or by sentiment or emotionalism, or aroused by committing oneself to a cause.
The psychological structure of society is based on pleasure. Our whole psychological existence is based in the continuation of pleasure. Until one understands the nature and the structure of pleasure, there will always be fear. The mind that is conditioned by the principle of pleasure cannot think clearly. What is pleasure?
The real revolution Series
These eight programmes were produced and broadcast in America by the National Educational Television Network. They represent the earliest sound films of Krishnamurti speaking to audiences - it was the first time that he had allowed his talks and discussion groups to be filmed. The principle settings are the Oak Grove in Ojai, California, and the Thacher School in the Ojai Valley.
---
This channel is managed by the Krishnamurti Foundation Trust, UK, and by the Krishnamurti Foundation of America.
The role of the foundations was described by Krishnamurti when he said, 'The foundations will see to it that these teachings are kept whole, are not distorted, are not made corrupt. They will not give rise to any sectarian spirit in their activities... nor create any kind of place of worship around the teachings or the person.'
We maintain extensive archives of Krishnamurti's original works and all four Krishnamurti foundations are actively engaged in the publication of material in various forms.
Our videos contain thousands of subtitles in more than 25 languages, translated by volunteers from all over the world. If you would like to help us with translating subtitles, please contact us at digital@kfoundation.org

FREEDOM OF FEAR 1. Concept of actions and urges is based on pleasure. 2. Fear exist untill the nature of pleasure is understood. 3. Desire is created , thought sustains it into pleasure , with memory thought demands the continuity of pleasure. 4. Thought creates past present and future, which is time. This time creates fear. 5. Time ceases to exist when there is complete attention. ( Here on pleasure).

The present is always here and now, it is not at any particular moment in time, but at every time, it has been there yesterday, it's there now and it will be there tomorrow. Therefore it has no localization in time, no point, no duration in time, it is timeless. Presence is the cessation of (psychological) time. Where there is no psychological time, there can not be fear, because fear is by necessity directed towards the future, one is afraid of something that he does not want to happen in the future.

JKs talks on a wide range of topics about human consciousness and life helps me to look more and more inside of me and cut out the rough edges on character and values. His understanding and insights are unparalleled. Even though he does not use many examples to illustrate the various aspects in his talk, the core elements that he speaks about, if one applies the mind is absolutely brilliant and practical to try out and benefit from.

Fear = the opposite of art. Art = love= putting everything in it’s right place. When “we are fear”, we are divided. We are not in order, chaos is inside : conflicts, pending problems. When all problems. Are brought to the present day and solved, peace arises, emptiness cleanses us up. And maybe we start crossing the river.

The human mind is one of the most amazing and mysterious mechanisms. The achievements of humanity through cognition are simply astounding! Man has used this most complex of tools to invariably master the external world. Inwardly, man has progressed very little. Upon examination we can realize all discontent is sewn from the mind and the mind alone. The mind seemingly breeds discontent. Why is this so? Anxiety, depression, fear, anger are all born out of conflict and division. Fear is bred in the mind and born from thought. The thought-mind (self image) creates duality in order to perceive the world. Consciousness is non-dual, unified, so there can be no subject/object relationship. It expresses itself through being-ness, dualistically so it can experience itself. A grave misidentification occurs when one incorrectly aligns with the thought-mind instead of identifying with the source. This is the single reason for all fear, suffering and discontent. One perceives themselves to be helpless to the whim of a collection of conditioned circumstances, concepts and memory. Therefore, one takes the workings of the mind to be extremely personal and when the mind suffers one consequently suffers with it. All one simply need do, is search inwardly beyond thoughts. Simply observe in stillness and quiet awareness and look past the thinking mind. Find what is there and has been there always. The words conveyed are merely a pointer and a motivator. One seeks that which exists prior to concept and language. Finding out who you are is of paramount importance. It can only be experienced and not conceptually grasped. This is of the utmost importance and for most, paradoxical. How can one understand without thought? Truthfully, one can only fully understand without thought. One cannot employ a limited tool to experience the unlimited. This is of great importance, the experience of silent awareness, existence-consciousness-great contentment, is needed to realize the truth and shift identification away from the thought-mind. When the indentification shift happens, it is completely evident. You stand apart from the thought-mind and can observe it easily from a new vantage point. If it is observable in this way, logic dictates, it simply couldn't be you. Thereby, when the mind suffers, one does not suffer with it. The realized one has no worldly attachments, is not attached to the body-mind and stays centered in silent awareness, even in the midst of daily life. This is the art of constant meditation. Outwardly in the world, inwardly stabilized in consciousness. In this detached state, no worldly affairs can touch you as nothing can touch consciousness and you reside in this state. The Taoists call this the knowledge of no-knowledge. The Japanese call it Zen. The Hindus call it Sat-Chit-Ananda (Existence-consciousness-great contentment). This is your natural state. Attainment of this state leads to total liberation. One moves about the world and life effortlessly, seeing the ebb and flow of worldly affairs as simple alternations in duality. This is the great truth, find it and all questions will disappear. All desire comes to an end. All attachment is dissolved and total clarity ensues. Everything in it's proper place, resting in great quiet peace, stabilized in the true self. Two Methods - 1. Self-Inquiry - This is the quickest and surest method to realizing the self. Look inwardly, with a quiescent mind, and find the source of the primary thought 'I AM'. Use the mind to observe inwardly with a high quality of attention. Observe quietly and see where it leads. 2. 'I AM' - The root thought of being is 'I AM', it precedes all other thoughts. Stay centered in the 'I AM', use this thought as the goto and if the mind wanders, return it to the 'I AM'. Although it sounds a bit crude and simplistic, it is highly effective in stabilizing in being-ness. If one can stabilize in the primary thought, then one can seek it's source. To rest in the state prior to consciousness is to reside in the absolute. 💜 - JB

I think that he hoped that we set ourselves totally free. He longed for that and felt pain for us. I was lucky to have lived what he taught without knowing him or any guru. Just was thirsty for truth. I did not know that what happened to me was so unusual. I thought that it happened to others, too. It is very painful to see all those people looking for God, but trapped in beliefs. Others PhD with international carriers, researchers, but still trapped. Merely realizing that unconditioning oneself is not natural to so many people. Most replace a conditioning by another.

@@yajur2000 On this point K was incoherent. We have ancient knowledge, means of knowledge to transform one s “self” for example Advaita61 Vedanta, this knowledge/ means of liberation, comes from “ consciousness” itself, not from the conditioned mind. If the masses could have done this transformation on their own, believe me, they would have, the sad fact is the human mind cannot do it on its own. Can this lead to bondage? This is the risk all humans face on any “ path”

listening requires effort but if we are not to put in effort towards our own radical revolution of our minds, there is a dilema. cause effort creates motive and motive can not be the reason for revolution or the mutation of the mind. in other words be someone else, abandon all your old ways. no more desire, no more pleasure, no more effort, and all the rest of it. he continues to remind us that there are soo many distractions and hinderances that we need to abandon. empty ourselves of everything essentially. that to me equals death of the mind which is death in itself. we no longer observe cause we become the observed. the observer becomes the what is, which is the emptying of the mind.

Listening requires effort only if you need to focus a certain fragmentary part of the whole, since you will need the effort to ignore the rest of things to concentrate on that only one thing. But to listen something in whole, you would listen not just the apparent object, but the whole symphony.

A nice question to ask yourself is: is non pleasure suffering ? When you realize that its not, you understand the basis of the 21st century psichological stucture. We have confused life with pleasure, love with pleasure, etc... We jump from pleasure to pleasure, junkies to that thing, slaves to the idea that the lack of pleasure must be, "logically"utter suffering. Fear then arises when yo dont get your fair shot of" pleasure" wheather it is a drink, drugs or just an image of yourself that you take pleasure sustaining for whatever reason.

A brilliant man. Krishnamurti's teachings enabled me to invent the DVR, known as TIVO. A whole new generation of humans have been born in the USA. Nearly 70 million births. These kids will change the world and America.

It seems to me that if pleasure is desire, then the fulfilment of any desire is not necessary for pleasure, for then it would be sufficient to hold on to unfulfilled desires to experience pleasure.

Is pleasure not a part of our physical need. Like hunger? To know this and act like this would be a solution for us also , or not?
@clavarx11
@clavarx11 4 жыл бұрын
Yes kinda, pleasure and fear and thought and hunger, all are survival tools. From my understanding, to truly understand all those survival aspects of self, you must look at them, face them from a neutral point of view, totally not knowing and genuine humility of observation, you learn about them, you understand them, and then you are kinda free from them. I'm not implying that you will stop eating. Hunger is not much psychological as fear and pleasure. But the mind and thought is made to protect you, to survive you and att the same time, it limits you in a golden cage of protection. Imagine a mom that loves and protects its child. The child grows and now are a man/woman but this mom wont let him be free. She wants to protect him no matter what. It thinks its her mission to do so. That's what mind and thought do to us. It help us tremendously to survive and to grow, but in a certain stage, we must look at it, understand it and transcend it to be truly free.

I am curious to find out what pleasure has to do with fear... "Pleasure denies love." Interesting. "Time creates fear."

I think what he means is that pleasure is associated with wanting something if a pleasurable experience is extended by thoughts that we identify with. Then we want more of it. But if this experience is taken away, which is inevitable, the pleasure turns into pain. So pleasure is pain. And fear is a type of pain obviously. For example if I meet a woman and she gives me pleasure through her attention to me and her compliments or whatever the case may be, it is very human to want more. I might start fearing not recieving this attention. So when her behavior stops, which is likely, I will experience pain. Now at what point was there love in this scenario? There was seeking pleasure and avoiding pain. Love arises naturally in the mind which is not in in this pain/pleasure circle. We do not have to do anything to force this state, in fact we can't. We "simply" need to really understand this (not intelectually) and maybe we will be free of it if we see the truth of it. We have to observe this, the avoidance of pain and seeking of pleasure (with our complete attention) in ourselves to see the futility of it.

Pleasure = repeating a past pleasant experience. It is memory. We project the past into the present because we are afraid of what we don’t know. We repeat pleasure to fill up our fear of emptiness. The ego wants security. We embrace the pleasant and escape from the unpleasant. Pleasure is an escape.

The form and time of those like Krishnamurti, that is a "snake enchanter" or a "speaker", wish totally contradicts the content of what Krishnamurti speaks of. That is a FACT. (without denying the Truth of the Words). If Krishnamurti knew who he was talking to, he would shut his mouth.... hahaha but very soon there will be no more "speakers" nor "preachers"!! Aho!
