J Krishnamurti - The Real Revolution - 7. Living and death
To understand the problem of death, one has to be free of fear. Fear is thought in action with regard to the past, through the present and to the future. Fear is the movement of time, which is essentially the process of thinking. How one looks at fear matters immensely.
Death is the ending of all the things which have been accumulated, which is the known. Losing the known means complete loneliness.
Can one die every day to one’s experience? So that every experience is totally assimilated, understood and dissolved. This requires a great deal of energy, which is attention.
The real revolution Series
These eight programmes were produced and broadcast in America by the National Educational Television Network. They represent the earliest sound films of Krishnamurti speaking to audiences - it was the first time that he had allowed his talks and discussion groups to be filmed. The principle settings are the Oak Grove in Ojai, California, and the Thacher School in the Ojai Valley.

This channel is managed by the Krishnamurti Foundation Trust, UK, and by the Krishnamurti Foundation of America.
The role of the foundations was described by Krishnamurti when he said, 'The foundations will see to it that these teachings are kept whole, are not distorted, are not made corrupt. They will not give rise to any sectarian spirit in their activities... nor create any kind of place of worship around the teachings or the person.'
We maintain extensive archives of Krishnamurti's original works and all four Krishnamurti foundations are actively engaged in the publication of material in various forms.
Our videos contain thousands of subtitles in more than 25 languages, translated by volunteers from all over the world. If you would like to help us with translating subtitles, please contact us at digital@kfoundation.org

I have read, seen so much on philosophy, but truly nothing has come across like k's interpretation and ideas about fundamental issues. The deapth of his understanding and how beautifully and with the intensity he explains is truly amazing. K, did not want to be put in a pedestal and told that he is a great thinker, what he wanted was a true revolution in the mind's of his listeners.

21:36 to die every day to every pleasure, to every thought, to every form of accumulation, so that with the dying the mind is made fresh and the heart renews itself, so that life doesn't become a torture.

I love how he keeps himself in touch with that inner knowing by closing his eyes and remarking all of that upon a crowd so effortlessly. Such a gently composed expression considering the subject matter. This is a very rare example of Compassion and Courage. The only way to find wisdom is to look at all of that which we fear, wisdom is learning how to love beyond fear.

Death implies separation, a breaking away. Thus, to die is to become permanently detached, and to die to something is to become permanently detached from that something. This “dying to”, however, is not the result of an act of will.

This is superb a bit intellectual and abstract but has so much wisdom. It would help if there were more examples of our wishes which creates the “What should be”. I and many are full of our wish to achieve to be content which creates the “what should be”. It is hidden deeply within us, ever present..

Hi Viewers, while I got that observer is observed, I look for a clarity here! One gentleman asked in this video that when we observe a tree completely without any previous thought about it, the tree still exists. Similarly, if we observe our fear, fear still exists. Then how this fear is getting resolved.... ??? Thank you

One suggestion I can give is when listening to K, please do not try to understand his words intellectually, i.e. through reasoning, debating, evaluating, comparisons with what others have said etc., in other words listen completely, with zero intervention of intellect, in complete silence. Now if you are serious enough to attempt at doing so, you might see its almost impossible to do so, which is the case with most of us. You might notice so many different voices, commenting upon, judging, evaluating what is being said, or simply distracting you away into an endless procession of thoughts and fantasies. These thoughts and voices that you notice, if you notice, are the observed, and you, the entity that is noticing is the observer. Next, you the observer may try to silence these voices (or fear or whatever else that is observed in that moment), employing xyz technique or method like trying to concentrate, repeating to yourself 'I am not afraid' etc. But any trying is in fact a cessation of observation, a hopeful movement away from the observed to its perceived opposite, i.e. from noise to silence, from fear to no-fear etc (i.e. a movement from what is to what should be). In other words, this trying is a continuation of the entity that is you, the (noisy or fearful) observer, who is separate from that which is being observed. This then implies continuity also of that which is observed- fear, noise etc, thus entrapping us in an endless battle. We keep trying to overcome fear, only to see it always persists. Its only when one begins to actually see the utter irrationality of this battle without an end- not merely an intellectual understanding- that 'trying' subsides, approaching its natural and effortless end, and the deep realization of "the observer being the observed" ( 'I am fear, and hence all i do is continuation of I, the fear') begins to dawn. With this, the observed and the observer merge and disappear into that which is- the reality, the emptiness, the great void, or quite simply, the unnameable. No more fear , no more you ;-) Of course tree as a physical entity will still be there, just as you as a physical being will also be there. But there wont be a mental conception of a separately existing independent thing named 'tree' or 'I', because there wont be the entity that does all the division, labeling, conceptualizing etc. What will remain is mere observation of that which actually is, devoid of any name or form.

Krishnakumar R . Tree has its own reality which is different from truth. Its reality is that its made of atoms and particles but we perceive it as tree even though if we dont associate any thought with it. Its still a tree with its own reality. Fear is some thing that doesn't have a reality in that sense. Its a thought process and movement of time, im sure u understand if you have read some of k teachings. So when u realize that oberver is the observed, that fear is you and its reality is an illusion, it ceases to exist. But does it go away completely, no sir. Even k has said it many times it needs an empty mind and deep understanding and energy which only comes when theres no effort. Still I dont think he is saying that as a process, only to constantly percieve it as what it is, brings about an end. Because the thoughts will come no matter.

Of course, Its not all that straight forward as it might appear from above. This deceptive division between the observer and the observed runs really really deep, much deeper than first perceived. It seems like that the 'observer' is the most skilled, slimy little camouflage artist ever. At first, i.e. upon awakening of perception, the observer quickly begins to pretend to be the "emptiness" etc. This can be highly deceptive state....leading to all sorts of illusions, potentially much more destructive than before. Once here, one must keep going, i.e. continuing to be extremely watchful, observing each and every "I" movement, every little thought that pops up in the background, every little fragment of desire, fear etc. It may then be possible to catch the 'observer' red handed, so as to speak....and that, it seems, is the key...

The teaching, very loosely, is this: one have got into this mess, one is to get out of this mess. Breaking away from the teaching I'd say: everything what happens in our life is real. Birth and death are real, they are part of life, to begin with. Want to live life, have the Heart. Attachment or not attachment, live and love. And I don't dismiss your fears as unreal, don't have heart for that. And keep asking.
@anestos2180

i mean its very easy to understand intellectually, now for actually i am not so sure . love only exists in the now ( no time binding). attachment is time binding because you want the pleasure of the past the be continued forever like living with your mother etc and this creates a dualistic effect. because in the creation of the attachment as the positive to balance it out in happens the creation of fear which is negative. so the projection of losing them which is your fear is based on the attachment of the comfort of wanting them forever which is created by the pleasurable memories with them. love has nothing to do with this duality because it is out of time.

The messenger who is J. K. is not important. What is important is the understanding of the message. This is the reason why most people fail to live the message. And so they are caught is analyzing words and miss the meaning altogether. The messenger points out that to be psychologically empty is the highest form of Intelligence. And what have we been indoctrinated with that fills up our minds? Why of course it is ideologies, beliefs and images about ourselves and about each other. And then the battle among these minds filled with emotional conclusion are in conflict with one another. Hence Intelligent peaceful cooperation is not possible in society. Because there is this blind devotion to the things we've been influenced to think is real and necessary (when in reality it's the main cause to the daily mess contaminating our daily lives). One can only understand these deep messages by examining how we deal with people on a moment by moment basis. We are programmed to automatically blame our unhappiness on others. But the truth is that unhappiness is a byproduct of the failure to observe your own emotional responses without any opposition or resistance. Society is trained to always oppose anything that is unpleasant or offensive. In doing so, one is escaping from the responsibility of being in total communion with ones own state of mind. To be in a state of holistic self-communion, one just simply must be aware of our conditioned reactions to want to change how we feel into something else (which the messenger calls, "The What Should Be."). "The What Should Be" is an illusion conjured out of ones emotional desire to escape from any disturbing state of mind. Look our consciousness cannot function Intelligent/Non-violently without studying its own nature directly. That is the purpose of these talks - not to be intellectuall wordsmiths. The dangers throughout the world and in our daily operations of physical survival all stem from psychological ignorance. All social systems are causing great harm because the leaders are psychologically ignornant and do not have direct self-awareness and understanding. And so they are generating more and more problems. And the public is blindly obeying them, that also based on psychological ignorance. So J.K. was taking responsiblility for his part in all of this mess by standing up and showing people their improper way of thinking and approaching their conditioned way of thinking which leads to human misery and destruction in the world. So either you want to understand and end the problem in your own daily interactions with people or you don't. If you do, then you take his message and experiment and watch and see what happens within your mind when you watch and pay close attention to your programmed emotional responses. The Act of Attention is neither negative nor positive, it is NEUTRAL, which is the EMPTY MIND. It is Pure Observation and NOTHING ELSE. We have been programmed to believe that you must be either positive or negative. So this is a mind that is full of negative limitations or positive limitations. They are one in the same. Once your mind awakens and is then enlightened to be aware of this, then it is free from both negative & positive emotional limitations. It is then of the highest psychological Intelligence and has emptied or purged the mind of all beliefs, images and ideologies. Such a state of mind innately has right or adequate responses to all challenges in daily life. It is a perpetual problem-solver and no longer adds to the misery in society and is outside of psychological hell. One must know oneself by directly seeing how your mind emotionally responds to all situations, then you are a spiritual Light Unto Yourself. And on a quantum level in the subconscious the collective subconscious is being purged, as well. Thank you.

K. never could explain on a clear way, the difference between the brain and mind. Sometimes he uses one word for the other. Is the fear produced by the brain or by the mind ? Is the thoughts produced by the brain or the mind ? Does the "self" ( Not the Ego, which is the "me" ) produced by the brain or the mind ? Is there a "self" separated from the "ego" ? After hundreds of videos, not a clear answer to these questions. Sometimes he admits that there´s no "higher self", only the self produced by thought, and so, nothing which transcends after the brain death. IE - Materialism, he repeats that thought is a material process. Sorry, folks...there is no afterlife, K. says these are stories invented by thought, by fear of death.
