@@wooba4227 In Japan they actually use "otaku" as a derogatory term. Otakus in the original acception of the term means people who are fanatics of the anime/manga/j-videogame subculture (obsessively so, when intended as derogatory), while "weeaboo" is an invented term used to make fun of people who are obsessed by superficial aspects of japanese culture to the point of neglecting their own in favour of it, despite often barely knowing anything about actual Japan.

So, we had a Japanese exchange student stay with us for a year, and the joke in the house was adding -eru to the end of English words and I was speaking Japanese. He had a great sense of humor about it but one day he was like " you guys are jerks, I was on the phone with my mother and I said drive-eru, you've broken my English and Japanese." Just a great guy, super fun, looking forward to visiting him in Japan-eru.

My club was cringe too. And this is coming from a cosplayer, and many would consider me cringe. But weebs are just another breed. I wanted to join a club in college because I thought people would be past their phases but it seems some people never grow out 😂

@Madwrestler 145 How is a B.A. in Japanese cringe? Very difficult language to learn if you're a native English speaker. Plenty of job opportunities in translation (commerce or culture field), as well as working for a Japanese company with offices in the U.S., or working for an American company in Japan.

Actually, I’m half Filipino and Brazil so I watch those channels whenever I’m home. U wouldn’t believe the game shows. They’re all the same and very cartoonish. The Flip game shows are sad bc they have people from poor villages that need the money & u see how grateful they are.

I think I’ve actually met people like this on my old campus. Then I went to japan to be an english teacher And felt ashamed that I hung out with people who actually knew 0% about actual japan lol but my friend from japan don’t get offended by people like this they think it’s really funny 😂

I used to work in an anime merch store located in Illinois. All but 2 of the employees were actually Asian, the owner was Asian, and I'm Asian. This is what some of our customers were like. This sketch is amazing; I relate to the teacher so much.

you are obviously too savy on these things. It's made for SNL, which means broadest american public appeal and that doesn't go beyond "hello kitty", "duruuu" and "san". Obviously there's a plenthora of japanese phrases and aspects of their media which the writers would understand, but they don't trust the audience to.

That would be a real japanese show...this is a piss take of those in the western world who idolise the kitsch aspects of japanese culture, manga and anime. Its meant to be done for buttons on a shitty student tv network, hence none of those production effects....i have known so many people like this. Imho, no grownass woman over 35 should be wearing child's t shirts depicting Sailor Moon characters.... Edit: make that 25....

The joke is that some characters portrayed in anime aren't all Japanese. Some of them are American, British, Chinese descent, Indian, Mexican, Black Russian, or even French

lol CandyCandy is a real anime, it’s based on the novel by Kyoko Mizuki which was adapted into the manga by Yumiko Igarashi and then turned into anime and the fact that they referenced a real quote makes this even better!!!

3:54 That anime "Candy Candy" is one of the greatest animes of all time that nobody in the US seems to know. If you think "Your Lie in APril" was sad you haven't seen anything... I love Anna. Hard to believe she almost turned down her role in Scary Movie because she was only interesting in serious acting and didn't think she could do comedy. THANK GOD she did it! Think of the iconic movies we'd have missed like The House Bunny, the Scary Movie series, Smiley Face...and dozens more

Naruto do sucks. Maybe some episodes r good. But 700 episodes! Where you can be pretty sure that 70% of all episode r awefull. FMA the only anime I find is done perfectly. Yu Yu hakusho, Dragonball Z, Samurai X etc is awesome. But this Naruto suck balls gigantic waste of time

Bobby Jones Oh god. I have a co-worker who's like that. He cosplays on parties and get together at work. Pretends to talk Japanese at lunch. He even does this little sword swinging action when he thinks no one is looking. Sometimes he does hand seals (yes I did watch Naruto before).

My mom is from Colombia and tells me all the time how she watched Candy Candy and Heidi (the one that Miyazaki worked on!!) every week with her siblings. Of course bc they dubbed it and had it on television!! My sister and I also watched Kiki’s Delivery service and Whisper of the Heart non stop with my mom when we were growing up, so these classic anime have always been a big part of our childhoods ❤️
