Im currently listening to the marvelous Piano Concerto by Wieniawski Op.20 in G minor a really wonderful and excellent presentation of this very dramatic work ,also the interactive phrases are really beautiful and with a great theme originated by the composer, also very excellent scale patterns and wonderful arpeggios a perfect balance between the Orchestra and the soloist & extremely super ornamentation overall ,a pleasure to listen to presenting excellent chromatic colours which the soloist portrays to maximum perfection a pleasure to listen to and ideal background music to fill your room with dimmed lights to relax to ,taking you to so many imaginary places as you close your eyes , which you can dream about, its a beautiful fantastic Piano Concerto indeed super intervals Martin Briddon Classical Pianist ,Chesterfield Derbyshire 8th December 2019

This forgotten piano concerto is a real romantic beauty of a forgotten composer!! His brother Henryk had more success, although Jozef proved here that he also is a great composer. I enjoy this nice romantic work!

Starting with some glittering writing for the piano, and a slow movement that is eloquent and expressive, the concerto eventually leads into a very racy and exciting finale. Well worth discovering!

Why this oriental painting as a backdrop for this concerto? The concerto of Henryk Wieniawski's younger brother is very successful and deserves to be resurrected by a brave pianist, just like those of Moszkowsky (op 59 of course), Rubinstein (the 4th) or, further upstream, the second of Hummel (in A minor) or the 3rd of Moscheles, etc. The version of Setrak is much better than this one (we can find it on YT with the scroll of the score) but bravo to the pianist for the courage she had to deploy to work this difficult concerto, as difficult on the piano as his brother's works were on the violin. Thanks a lot to KuhlauDilfeng2 for the setting on line of this rare work.

Hello kbh prinsesse, I took the time to look around and found the following on a Polish website -not that I read Polish. It looks like this recording was made during the season 2011/2012 of the Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra. Here is the link if you still care: www.polskieradio.pl/8/688/Artykul/610431,Koncert-fortepianowy-Wieniawskiego It is not a CD recording and definitely not from 1858 ;-)

Not bad, interesting, but very bombastic at places - it hardly finds a way to finish the first movement, which is sometimes a problem with Tsaikovsky or Rachmaninoff as well. Otherwise sometimes very beautiful. Thanks for this rarity.
