Better Hollywood than the other way around. Saves the girl, gets the dog. Reminds me of that very old beer commercial where some dude comes sliding out from under a car, all greased up and sweaty. There's a beautiful young woman in short-shorts and a tight blouse smiling at him offering a cold bottle of beer. As the dude begins to drink the beer the narrator says, " Sometimes there's nothing better than a cold beer and a warm woman." A wag says, "A lot better than a warm beer and a cold woman." 😅

Love the time-warp theme. There's a problem with continuity. If this would've happened on December 6-7, 1941, Sen. Chapman wouldn't be there. He died on Jan. 17, 1941, 11 months EARLIER! Unless he came back from the dead, there's NO WAY the Senator is Sen. Chapman. So much for historical accuracy.

@@rascallyrabbit717 Nope. Antiships harpoon missiles were released in 1977 and could strike a target from more than 200 kms away. Japanese flak has always been subpar throughout WW2, it wouldn't have been a real threat to 80s jets and even less if those jets had sent their bombs from over the horizon. 3 to 4 intruders bombers could have sunk the 6 carriers, 2 battleships, 2 cruisers and dozen destroyers of the 1941 Nagumo's strike force with ease. Naval firepower has grown 1000 times over within 40 years, and even more so now.

I doubt it. The F-14 was an interceptor. The "Bombcat" upgrade (an F-14B with LANTIRN or the F-14D) did not flight until the 90's. In other words, when that movie was film, the F-14 was a pure air-to-air combat aircraft.

@@vlad78th A similar battle between modern jet fighters and WW2-era fighter planes also happened in a Japanese light novel and its web novel version. In Nihonkoku Shoukan (Summoning Japan), 12 F-15J Kais and 15 Mitsubishi F-2s of the JASDF destroyed 85 Antares fighter planes (isekai Mitsubishi A6M5 Zero) of the Gra Valkas Empire. EDIT: The battle between the Antares fighters and the Japanese Eagles is not included in Vol. 5 of Nihonkoku Shoukan (but included in Vol. 6 which will be out in Nov. or Dec. 2019) but it is already in the web novel version. The Gra Valkas Empire sent its entire main fleet to punish Japan because they've realized that Japan is the real threat for their planned world domination in the New World. Japan's tech level in the story is 21st century (2015 and fast improving) while GVE is early WW2 technology level (no jets, no helis, no Tiger Tank-level armor, no Assault Rifle and other late-WW2 era technology). So in other words, the GVE Invasion Fleet will be destroyed completely by just conventional weapon's fire power? The GVE Invasion Fleet's number is comparable to the US Fleet that invaded Okinawa.

All the years I have watched this film, I never notice a continuity break: Helicopter 736 off-loads Sen Chapman, his secretary, and the dog. Helicopter 733 is shown landing behind 736. 733, we assume had the Japanese pilot on board, since he was not picked up with the Chapman party. Next we see the Japanese pilot exiting, not from 733, but from the side door of 736.

Right. Right after 733 lands, 736 lifts off the deck again, and this is the helo the Japanese pilot exits from, but then we see 733 lifting off the deck with 736 circling in the background.

So, Hollywood is not perfect; never was and never will be. There are a lot of safeguards to ensure authenticity but bloopers always get through. This movie was a US Navy recruitment film as much as a sci-fi film. Great entertainment. Not historically accurate. Never really happened except in a movie theater and your mind. Enjoy the view of the forest and forget some of the trees are misnumbered.

going in at night and sinking all japanese ships would be the easiest solution. there would be no AA fire whatsoever. not that it would pose much of a risk. the confusion created would be phenomenal. with the anti submarine tech aboard a modern aircraft carrier the next logical move would be to the atlantic. the german surface fleet could then be destroyed followed by the U Boats. the pens they kept the remaining U Boats in would be of little protection against modern bunker busters. destroying key targets would be easily done again at night. or simply have a flight of F14's go over berlin and tokyo to let them know what there up against. would be enough to make them reconsider the whole issue.
@majorlagg9321

Yes, they could sink every ship in the task force. But, then what? They could sail for Japan and hit most of the remainder of the Imperial Fleet. Soon, the Nimitz would run out of fuel and ammo with no prospect of replacement for years.

@russelloriely6343 7 жыл бұрын
***** the ship itself wouldn't run out of fuel but the jets would. they contact the pentagon then begin making the supplies they need. there are more than enough engineers and technicians aboard any aircraft carrier to get things happening. also remember the nimitz carries nukes.

Interestingly enough Nimitz may have struggled more to adapt to 1941 if she went back from 2020 than she would have from 1980. Remember there was no GPS at the time, no internet, no laser guided bombs, no drones, no smart phones and sat com was a lot more primitive than it is today. While her technology by 1941 standards was incredibly impressive it was a lot less smart tech reliant than our modern navy. Something as simple as running a Google search, or looking up a Wiki page to get specific information about a personality or an event of the time period would have been impossible. Back in those days before the internet if I needed a piece of information I had to look it up in a book, and while I have been reading about history since I was 10 and have been complimented many times on my exceptional memory I can promise you I wouldn't want to risk men's lives based on my memory alone if I could help it.

Changing history, if we could do it, is a very dangerous thing. What happens, for example, if you are driving a car and hit a pedestrian who crosses at the wrong place and time. That pedestrian turned out to be your grandfather and your father wasn't conceived yet. History would go coo-coo for your family. You wouldn't exist either so how could you have been driving the car that killed your young grandfather? But, you did. Time travel, if possible, would be OK if you were invisible and only watched it happen/unfold. No tampering with the time line.

The Japanese guy shooting the place up didnt make sense. 1st why would the guard be so close, especially with out another guard to back him up.and the guard must have had a round already chambered, the safety off and the weapon in auto mode. Either that or some random guy from 1941 in a split second knew how to operate a weapon hed never seen. That and the senator not having a clue what a helicopter is always bugged me. He was on the military committee and at least the concept of a helicopter was far from unknown.

1. Eu sou a videira verdadeira, e meu Pai é o viticultor. 2. 5. Eu sou a videira; vós sois as varas. 23.
