I know this sounds passe but I think this video literally cured my depression. back in 2016 I started focusing on my YT channel again and I was obsessed with being perceived as likable and smart and putting all my effort into growing subscribers. even though I had no problems making friends. to the point people often compared me to Jack Black (i'm tubby and dark haired like him too). I never had any big issues with depression or mental health until december of last year and I was at the lowest point of my life then. watching this video reminded me that I used to be like this allot. just out to be whatever the hell I wanted and be funny for myself. since this video came out I haven't had a suicidal or dark thought since. not sure if you'll see this but thanks guys. you helped remind me of what I used to be like :) I feel as good as I did back in 2014! appreciate it!

Wow, that really is great tot hear! I am so happy for you! :D It really sounds like you snapped out of an depression. It could help to write this down somewhere. It can be as simple as just print out this comment you wrote so you are able to reread it whenever you need to. Or maybe put a daily reminder somewhere, FE get a poster of jack black and hang it somewhere. Because sometimes the depressed feeling can come back without much warning and those little things help you to stay out of it. I really hope you continue to be awesome and stay as happy as you are right now!

I have a channel where I stream games, not because I wanted to but people told me I should because I made them laugh. I will admit I have zero confidence and think I am not likable at all. Something odd happened when I began streaming, not only did it fix my social anxiety - I also began to own my own faults. I stopped worrying about screwing up LIVE or trying to search for a hidden skill or talent I did not possess. In fact over 3 months I gained more subscribers that I even thought possible. Sure I didn't get 1 billion like Jack Matt over here, but I just learned to bask in my own failures, misadventures and lack of skill at video games. Many people told me it was refreshing to see someone who didn't always portray themselves as a video game pro. I just have a laugh and now I look forward to being myself and sucking at video games. lol

This actually really helped me, especially looking at Jack Black. I always liked to tell people that I don't care what people think of me but looking back I've always been so self conscious, and after watching this I've realised that alot of being confident and liked is all about owning who you are and not caring what the haters think. Honestly, thank you.

I agree with Alex. The energy is the sign that Jack loves what he's doing. He puts energy into it, and gains energy from it. I'm kinda the same, though not nearly as successful, or talented as him. But when you see a chubby, middle-aged woman having a hell of a time in a pogo pit, it's probably me, gaining energy. :D

@@brendag6148 Robin Williams had been diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia. It's a very awful form of dementia where you have hallucinations, can get paranoid and violent against your loved ones and caregivers, etc. He knew he didn't want to face that. This is a matter of fact but it really sort of got lost in the story. Now laws have passed that allow people to exercise their Right to Die before such an undignified end. But at that time, there was no such set of laws. He chose to sidestep an ugly death. Yes he was scared and what he did was done secretively. But times were different even in 2013.

I love your videos but I would also love to see a more grounded approach sometimes, we cant interact with others like were living in a Talk Show, those scenarios are far away from our everyday lives, they are something partially constructed. So maybe try to explain how we can transfer these methods to real life or you could use a bit more reallife scenarios.

-Postapokalypso - this is really good feedback that Charlie should see if there is a way to take onboard. After using an entertainer to illustrate a principle, How can we do a less dramatic version of this principle in a situation where 1) we are not on a stage where that high showmanship is expected 2) we are spending most of our brain 9-5 in front of excel or salesforce or ipython or autocad rather than studying an actor’s craft
@DashingPartyCrasher
@DashingPartyCrasher 5 жыл бұрын
Good point, and I've thought that too sometimes. But in Charlie's defense, he has to walk a fine line between enticing people to watch his videos, and also providing great content. With celebrity profiles, it's easier to get people to click and watch. Showing over-the-top examples (like with many celebrity profiles) also helps people to remember the content, because they already know that celebrity and now they can associate that celebrity with their particular confidence traits or skills. If you just show regular people doing that, we wouldn't be as motivated to watch them, and we wouldn't remember them as easily. (I mean, how easily do you remember random stock photo models or stock video actors?) To your point, maybe Charlie could follow his celebrity profiles with real-life examples of him, or his friends, colleagues, or community leaders. Maybe he already does this in COC University... I don't know, but if I had the money, I'd sign up to find out.
@DiscoFang
@DiscoFang 5 жыл бұрын
Andrew Farrell Well put. Most of Jack's behaviour is stagecraft & showmanship. It's what you see in many stage actors, and often they can't turn it off.
@-postapokalypso-7289
@-postapokalypso-7289 5 жыл бұрын
I really like Charlie and I want him to succeed, well and then I get your point of needing to gain audience, but providing only celebrity based content, that also occurs in situations we will likely never be in makes it feel a tiny tiny little bit like the whole thing could be a scam. At this point also a little advise on the advertisement for Charisma University, I thin the clean look and the stock footage used gives off the impression of something shallow, which is, Ive tried the program once for a short time, not what Charlie does in the university. In general stock footage sends a very unpersonal message to the audience. I think you could benefit from a more authentic look here :D

I want to believe that you can change the way people perceive you by having more confidence and behaving as such, but oftentimes I don’t think that’s the case. I’ll go into a situation and just let myself be myself, feel genuinely happy and upbeat, and not think about trying to make myself seem a certain way, and I still don’t make any friends and people don’t want to be around me. Some people are just more charming, talented, and likable than others, and I’m simply not any of those things. I think accepting that will make me more happy than trying to portray a confidence level that I don’t feel in a way that’s unnatural for me

I would like to add on the part when you mentioned about giving "enthusiastic compliment". I find that doing this to someone you are jealous of can help get rid of the jealousy you may feel towards them. They make thank you and give you an enthusiastic compliment back right away or somewhere else down the line when you make an achievement in life. I know this may sound like common sense, but I often feel like a huge amount of weight is lifted off my shoulder once I compliment someone I am jealous of on their achievement. I find that turning around and voicing jealous comments inside my head only hurts me more. Just give out a good compliment and hope they will give you the same when you reach your goal. Better to make friends than enemies is what my dad always tell me when dealing with people I don't like or feel jealous of.

But how do you draw the line between the notions: 1. being comfortable with yourself and not conforming to anyone's dogmatic ideologies about How one should be behaving. And 2: Being an arrogant, inconciderate douchebag who's confidence makes him oblivious to his own discourteous demeanor? The line between those two principles is very tenuous and all too easy to transgress.

The difference between arrogance and confidence is that an arrogant person needs to be the best person in the room, while a confident person doesn't need to compare themselves at all. Easy. One is content with criticism, backlash, and people not liking them. The other is delusional, defensive, and can't tolerate people not liking them. This can stem from lack of/too much fulfilment or attention. It builds this complex of something subverting expectations being unnatural. Failure is something that's very hard to cope with for arrogant people. A truly confidant person is not built by the people around them, because they're not going to be with them 24/7. They're not concerned with the good or bad, nor do they feed into them. They enjoy life for what it is, flaws and all.

I've had a few friends, co-workers and manager tell me I remind them of the female version of Jack Black. I took that as the BEST compliment I've ever been given in my entire life. I used to work at the Mall of America and would dance in front of the store I worked at to bring in the customers, and just be a goof most days. I am not a good dancer but I committed to it, and made people laugh every day. I LOVE Jack! Jack Black and Charisma on Command are the 2 biggest factors in me going from one of the most introverted and shy people I've ever seen, to an extrovert who genuinely loves people and is deeply confident in who they are. I often am make jokes or shouting obscure references from the kitchen at work, my coworkers are almost never without a smile when working alongside me, and I am comfortable to commit whole heartedly to whatever I do. I, honestly, didn't think watching youtube videos would make any meaningful change in my life, but it has made an incredibly drastic change. I hate to say that I rarely watch these videos anymore, and, honestly, haven't in quite a few months, but I know the goal is to help people break past the need for these videos as there will always be another person in need of help. For those who are shy, introverted, and lacking in confidence, watch 1-2 CoC videos every day, doesn't matter which ones, I never took any deliberate action based on them, but because the principles were always floating around in my head, I eventually took action on them without realizing it...

Usually you don't want to be poking fun at someone you just met because you want to establish some trust with them first. However if you're famous then that point is thrown out the window because people already know you and expect a certain relationship from you

I would kinda disagree on this video. I would rather say that jack black is overacting his own persona to make up for a lack of confidence. It s a way for him to divert the attention from his non too ideal for hollywood physique. Notice how artists with unperfect hollywood bodies tend to overdo it. Mo'nique is another example. To me all these examples about jack Black here and there has more to do with looking for attention than being truly confident.
