I agree. And I am a Jack Sharkey fan! Schmeling's movement was a problem for Sharkey who was a pretty good boxer in his own right. As I watched this fight, I began to wonder how Schemling would have down in a fight with Gene Tunney

First off I want to comment (like everyone else) on some of the most bias commentary I have ever seen. I've heard this same commentator on a few other old fights, and it's completely bias. I thought Schmeling did enough to win the fight by a fairly comfortable margin. Scoring this fight is tricky because not only is Round 5 missing, but all of the rounds have been shortened. Scoring on the 10-point must system, I scored the fight 135-131 for Schmeling (because of the missing round, so you can do the math).

But once again on the bias commentating. Round 7 or 8 he stated that Max was "well ahead," and that it was "hard to give a round to Sharkey." After round 7 I had Sharkey leading 58-56. It was a fairly bad decision, but I wouldn't go as far as to call it the worst decision I've ever seen, or even one of the worst. I had rounds 2,3,8-13, and 15 going to Schmeling, and rounds 1,4,6,7,and 14 going to Sharkey, and round 5 was missing from the footage. I had rounds 1,3,4,7,8,12,and 14 marked as "close", so if the right rounds swum the other way, I could have Sharkey pulling out a close decision win.

corytclark Bias of the time, i wouldn't be surprised if Schmeling was a bigger draw in that time. Example was Maidana vs Mayweather 1. I had Maidana sodidly winning 5 rounds, Mayweather easily took 4. The other 3 i don't have any1 winning in particular but idk how they gave them to Floyd. Floyd would connect on Maidanas gloves which makes a noise, and commentators would go ape shit. Better to watch a fight in mute IMO since you can't hear the fighters most time you just hear commentators who don't know shit and the bias crowd.

Madison Square Garden Bowl was bad luck for defending champions. Schmeling would've had to knockout Sharkey to get a draw.

Schmeling won though. He landed consistently and controlled the ring. Perhaps 3 rounds could swing either way but the decision was egregious.
