The main reason it has changed so much is the fact that the area was bombed so heavily during WW2.

Fascinating. My mother was a homecare assistant visiting old people in their houses. During the seventies, she cared for an old lady who lived to be hundred and she remembers talk of jack the ripper . She would have been about twenty at the time.she told us that she remembered hearing about it. Old people are living history books.

When I was growing up I remember being told by my English grandparents that they believed Jack The Ripper was a policeman and he had his knife engineered into a police truncheon, being a policeman gave the impression of trust and the ability to hide in plain sight. The craziest thing is that back then the East end of London was incredibly poor, literally the lowest of the low. Today it is probably one of the most expensive areas to live in the entire world, with properties starting at half a million pounds a pop and basic terrace houses a million pounds a pop. Insane how things can change. Great video and new viewer!

It is interesting how things have changed. I visited the UK back in 1999 and then about 6 months later in the Millennium year of 2000. Accidentally I was pointed to and I got on the wrong train line in the Victoria station. That particular incorrect train line, took me out to whitechapel. And I got to be honest with you the Whitechapel that I saw in 1999 and in the year 2000 did not look anything like what I'm seeing today on your video. So I guess they really have come up in the world as we say here in America.

@manuellubian5709
@manuellubian5709 29 күн бұрын
@@RileEren I still remember Whitechapel being a little bit 'rough' back then as it is now. I hear it's even worse now. However, the biggest difference between then versus now is that there weren't a lot of businesses closed and shunted like, there is now today. Another thing that I don't necessarily remember seeing is that there weren't as, many people who 'bottomed out' in life and in society and who are now basically living off the streets. Didn't see very much of that when I visited back in 1999 and 2000. I mean yes you saw a few here and there but it was not as bad as it is today. Would you agree with me or are you seeing things a little bit differently? I'm curious to know your opinion.

My dad told me once that one of my ancestors believed she was grabbed by Jack The Ripper. She never saw the mans face and managed to escape but the grip on her wrist was so strong that it left a mark which never healed. When her daughter was born, she had a similar mark around the same wrist that eventually went away. Its a story that has been passed down in my family for generations. (I'm not sure how true it is but it still gives me chills thinking about it)

J.T.R. is the ultimate Grimm story and location, I've really gotten into it because of KZfaq and the old remaining London streets and remaining atmosphere. So envious, THANKS ! I agree that he may have caught syphilis from a prostitute, lost his mind and got revenge.

Thank you for doing this video. The last time I was in London I discovered too late about the Jack the Ripper tours. The only tour available before I was scheduled to leave was on the same night I had theater tickets. It was a great show, but I also regret not being able to take that tour. But I don't think it would have been as good as this Grimm Adventure.

Hi guys! One thing that I would recommend is reading The Five by Hallie Rubenhold. It came out a few years ago and further investigates the five women who were the victims of Jack the Ripper and goes more into detail about who these women really were. Something people don’t really look into!

I work at the very hospital you mentioned at the beginning of this video. I've been fascinated with JTR since i was very young, oddly enough and had never done any of the tours yet despite working at the very heart of JTR's stomping grounds. But i got motivated to visit finally the first crime scene you mentioned in this video as it is just walking distance from where i work. Love you guys!!! I find you two very adorable and cute in a morbid way. 😊

My own cousins grandmother, on her mothers side, was a direct descendant of Mary Jane Kelly (A sibling of Marys I believe). Jack the Rippers 5th Victim. In those days there were a lot of poor Irish immigrants living in London. Sadly prostitution was a way to survive for many women. Ironic. Rest in Peace.
