While skill does play an important part, remember what Jackie said from one of his interview that people commenting how good he is, his response was he's not "good", but he was willing to eat the cost, spend time, effort to retry as many time as require to get the perfect shots (sometimes take over 100 attempts for doing one non-essential scene just to make it more entertaining for the audiences to watch)- something that the Hollywood film-makers don't do as it would increase the production cost, as well as extending the filming process. Also often that just do the shots poorly, and just leave it up to the "editing" to fix the scenes rather than redoing it. That's the differences between respecting the craft and let the goods and reputation speak for themselves vs just making a product and try to get people to buy it relying heavily just on marketing and generating as much hype as possible to grab as much attention from people as possible.

If you watch a lot of his films, you will see a lot of the same faces. (Actually, in a single movie, but you're not supposed to see that.)

Luis Coley the only movie where Jackie wasnt fighting was in fact his first one called "All in the family". This was back in 1975 I think. It wasnt a porn movie, but more of an adult comedy film.

Jackie Chan actually studied ballet and his skills are the more impressive considering he also coordinates the scenes.

It's great because the opponents just see the surroundings as things and background, but for Jackie the elements become weapons and tools.

Nole Delgado Jackie chan performed most of his own stunts in all his films, but actually even though he performed them well in the movies there were times where he actually had to do them over and over again cuz he kept screwing up, like in this part with the ladder scene if you watch the ending credits where they show them filming the movie you could see that he actually kind of keep screwing up when he was trying to fight with the latter, he even got hurt to at times, and that's another thing to Jackie Chan would get hurt trying to do his stunts. if you watch any of his movies especially his old ones they always show behind the scenes of how they made the film and how he would perform his stunts. some of them he had to keep doing over and over again till he got them right. other than that he does have great talent I've always loved Chan's films:)

peter fragoso he performs all his stunts. His worst one where he almost died was when he fell out of a tree and landed straight on his head. He needed emergency brain surgery. Till this day he has a plastic plug in his skull. He is badass! He shows the bloopers at the end of each movie for one main reason, to show children how serious it is especially when he gets hurt. Another words "Do NOT try this at home". He has great talent and is an amazing performer!

Jackie's films were masterful in its own aspect and stand the test of time simply because films today lack the 'opportunity' to actually cause injuries to the stuntmen or actors like Jackie's films allowed for at that time. You won't get to see anymore of these dangerous acts as we advance thru time.

You really want to be saddened, go watch a modern Hong Kong/Chinese action film. Again, there are exceptions, but it's crazy how far action cinema there has fallen.

@@antgto agree, the modern Chinese/hongkong movies just became an attempt to mimic America and also sad that the new actors limited the resources that Stephen Chow and Jackie chan can use as director, many actors doesn't really want to fight themselves and sometimes old Jackie was forced to carry the show by himself, which is painful to look at that old Jackie can't really do extreme stunt anymore and also no actor willingly to do the stunts.

Good movies Conor and I would put the raid 2 over those you've listed. But still your listed movies use a lot of cgi and camera trickery like sped up film to accomplish what Jackie did from the early 80s onward.

Long before Michael Jackson died, all my life, I've wanted to see Jackie Chan and Michael Jackson together.

Jackie was not only a master of gloriously elegant (yet frantic) staged combat, but he TRULY understood storytelling in ways that most directors and choreographers do not. Even to this day, a lot of "fighter people" think that everything is about cool moves. It isn't. It's the way every section of whatever fight scene is going on TELLS A COMPELLING STORY. Just look at "The Empire Strikes Back". There is a reason that fight is actually more epic than the one from "The Phantom Menace" (as cool as Ray Park was). It's because the fight made a lot more sense, and every section of it was grounded in both character development and storytelling. In TPM, the Obi Qui Maul fight was "cool", but the acting beats were mostly muddled and covered up by the fight choreography. Essentially, Jackie was ALWAYS telling a story with every shot, every scene, and every camera position. I'm serious. Just LOOK at what is in the background of every shot, and then enjoy the very next shot. :) What was in the background will soon be in the foreground, which helps the audience to follow the absolutely BREAKNECK pace of his team's legendarily exemplary work.
