Former child star Jackie Cooper discusses life as an actor in the early days of cinema and working in the talkie era into sound pictures. Cooper starred in the Our Gang/Little Rascals series and took the world by storm as a beloved MGM child star known for his realistic dramatic tears and his charm on screen, earning the distinction of being the youngest actor ever nominated for an Academy Award up until 1979.

For me in retrospect, Jackie Cooper's most memorable performance was as Jonathan West in The Twilight Zone: Caesar And Me.

This is an excellent interview. Cooper was, I think, one of the few child stars who didn't have a screwed up later life, and who continued both to act and direct successfully in adulthood.

@King Royal Well, Jackie Coogan was married four times, all but the last of his marriages lasting only a couple of years. In addition, I don't think he could find any work as an actor until the last few years of his life. I don't know if that qualifies him as having had "a screwed up later life," as I put it, or not. What do you think?

The role of"Perry White"for the "Superman"feature films...was really ment for Keenan Wynn..but? When Poor Keenan got sick and he was unable to the movie..The film's director..Mr.Donner contacted Jackie and he got him to fly to England..where he did the movie..and..as they say..the rest is film history.

So good! I though I would watch five minutes, and then before I knew it, he was done talking. So engaging, and he had such a good outlook on things; not the "I was a victim." attitude.

Good interview. He was very forthcoming. I wonder if he would have been willing to go longer and go into more detail about specific people and movies. He certainly was in the thick of the so-called golden age of Hollywood and the studio system. He reminds me a bit of my dad, who was virtually the same age, the way he told a story.

Jackie Cooper as a child performed very well in that comedy drama movie 1933 "The Bowery". Along with him was the Oscar winner Wallace Beery, George Raft, and Fay Wray who became famous in King Kong movie. Fay Wray declined to do a sequel for that film. When she died the Empire State Building turned off the light on top for 15 minutes. Jackie Cooper got along well with George Raft.

Classic Comedy Cinema Prog- Jackie Coogan was the child actor with Charlie Chaplin in The Kid., not Jackie Cooper. Coogan was about 10 years earlier in 1921 with The Kid, Cooper had just been born. Surprised you didn’t know that!

You should do an interview like this with Richard Chamberlain, while he's still here and has a good memory, He would have some interesting experiences in the movies ,tv and made for tv series . It would compliment his memoirs ,as well as similiar experiences like Tab Hunter, being gay and having to hide it.

When and where did this interview take place? who is the "interviewer"? PLEASE TMC go back to experienced interviewers who know how to ask questions, let people speak, and have a voice that shows more interest than gossipy contempt. the actors are true professionals, providing stories and reasonable answers against poorly developed questions.

Not all Jews are rich. Sandra Shevey, (author, filmmaker, lecturer, theorist) is also Jewish. She has never been able to afford a car and lives in a rented room London 200 pounds pw. When you want to enumerate the wealth of Jewish people why not concentrate on those of us who have ntohing; who have been ripped off; and who don`t get hired for jobs we should get.
