What the hell is Seán talking about? He DOES clearly have an Irish accent. You can hear it on almost all his words. Yeah, it’s a little bit fainter compared to someone who’s lived in Ireland their entire life, but it’s still clearly there. You’re too hard on yourself, Seán!! Much love to ya🫶🇮🇪

Seán's talk about not feeling 'irish enough' was really relatable and weirdly it makes me feel better to hear that other people wrestle with the same thoughts about nationality and identity as I do. As someone who's 50/50 Italian and White Australian, I feel like I'm not really representative enough of either culture, especially because I grew up with the internet which was heavily influenced by North America. I think what has helped me be comfortable calling myself both is the fact that it's not a competition. Like, of course there's gonna be some caricature of a person out there somewhere who's an absolute legend and is undoubtedly of their culture, but like, you're not competing. If anything, sharing a nationality with someone is something to bond over. In the end, though, if you're celebrating the fact that you're Irish, that in itself makes you more Irish.

I don't get it. Either you grew up in Australia and you're Australian or your grew up in Italy and are Italian, what your parents are makes no difference. But I also see literally no point about caring about any of that stuff, you're who you are and the place where you were born is just arbitrary and circunstancial, so I really don't get the whole "pride" thing, I could never think like that about my (or any) country.

@@_korbo_ Firstly, i'd recommend going into this kinda stuff with a bit more open of a mind. You didn't consider the fact that someone like myself could've moved countries when growing up. Secondly, about country pride, its a different thing for everyone. Just because your nationality isn't a big part of your identity doesn't mean that's the case for everyone.

Yeah. Catholicism hadn't even had a chance to get reformed and split off some Protestants while St. Patrick was alive... Wikipedia says he was around in roughly 5th century... so 400-ish AD... Luther gave his 95 Theses to propose reformation of the Catholic Church in 1517, and thus no protestants could exist before then. But them there heathens were everywhere long before that, lol

fun fact: astronauts planning to go to mars is not a life-time thing! for the purposes of their research and project plans, it might be, but the trip is only 6 months long for the shortest path (which occurs every two years), meaning you'd have to stay on mars for 2 years at a time. companies, such as space x and nasa, are working on building rockets so that they can land on their own so that they can send rockets full of supplies to mars before they send their pilots (the recent launches are tests of this). you would not starve, but you would not have taco bell, that's for sure.

My great grandad came from Ireland, his wife I think from Scotland? And I’m an American citizen, I still fully believe you are always going to be Irish. 🖤

I am, however, a Recluse in person and going to Mars would lead to tighter confinement and more interactions with whoever else went... and that I would NOT like. So in the end I would probably just say no.
