not gonna lie man i watched your video on pedal boards a while back and I went from no pedals to about 13, then i watched your video on the weber california 12's in the bartle box and now I have that in a 1x12 version, and I also happened to get a milkman the amp 50 a few months back and, my brother, I also built a wolf tribute from scratch with 3 dimarzio super 2's last year, so you're pretty much my rig daddy and i'm willing to admit that, and the rig sounds pretty much like heaven in my living room

These are great. I have the Milkman 50. Great tones, super clean. When added to a Jerry style strat with OBEL and DiMarzios, it's pretty damn good. I also use Weber 12s, fantastic for Jerry sounds. Thanks Davvy! Love watching your channel.

Cool video Davy! I believe you mispoke about ohms to watts tho re the amp and people need to be careful. It does 100w @ 8 ohms, 200w @ 4 and 50w @ 16. I mention this because many of us use 8ohm JBLs or similar speakers, so running one will be taking 100w of power, and a 2x12 wired parallel will be taking 200w of power. Your 2x12 has two 16 ohms parallel = 8 ohms, which is safely run at 100w. For many of us tho, two 8 ohms wired parallel is 4 ohms and will have to be run at 200w power. That could be very dangerous to vintage JBLs or similar expensive speakers if people are diming the gain and master as you did going into your 2x12. Therefore, if you own vintage JBLs, you should consider buying the Amp 50 as it can safely run a 4 ohm 2x12 at 100w power. Can still use the Amp 100, but you couldn’t be so generous with the volume knobs. Just trying to save what’s left of our beautiful JBLs one speaker at a time…cause theyre not making any more of ‘em! Love my milkman 100. 200 watts at 4 ohms into my 2x12 is so beautiful. Like you and others said. All you need is an EQ pedal for mids. The boost also makes it come alive! Great option if you don’t wanna lug a twin or rack gear around.

Your video got me intrigued about this amp, so I tried one. Then I bought one. Still waiting for it to arrive… moving the K120 from my old Mesa Mark I (that weighs too much for my lazy river to want to gig anymore) to a 1x12 cab to go with it. Playing both pedal steel and guitar through it. Assuming it works as well at home as it did in store, it’ll replace a Fender Tone Master Deluxe that’s been a VERY satisfying amp.

all i can say is i just recently had my 1973 marlen D-10 pull release pedal steel 8x4 and when i pucked it up from the gentleman who set it back up for me was a former long time worker in the emmons factory but when i went to his shop he had the 50 watt white version and it litterly blew my GD mind out the back of my skull i had never heard my steel sound so freaking good i guess its all about what speaker he had me using it was the best sound ive ever heard i just got a 82first gen peveay vegas 400 210 watt 15" black widow so much headroom my tele sounds magical threw it only had to pay 200$ for it free shipping to the door i still hope to get the milkmam in the coming years

But i hate taking it even across the room. Going to look into the Milkman 100. It doesn't sound identical to my ears though to the modified twins out there.

Doesn't quite have the plucky squacky action but the reverb and tone is pretty damn close. Could also be because I'm just listening through laptop speakers... Where did you get your glasses from? A lot of people forget that it wasn’t until like 73 ish when Jerry started incorporating pedals and the McIntosh amps for his set up. His setup during europe 72 was basically alligator->vox wah pedal->a couple fender twins outfitted with jbl’s daisy chained together. In 68-69 it was really just his gibson sg and fender twins with the jbl speakers.

These really are legit. I have an SMS preamp with an MC50 power amp and the milkman is damn close. Great bang for the buck as the kids say.

I have a 93 American strat and middle pickup is where I live mostly. I had a fender blues J.r that got stolen, and then I got a deal on a Marshall 2000 DSL 401 and I could NEVER get the tone I wanted out of it, and I hate it. Makes me not want to play. I blew another power tube, so I decided to fix it and sell it. I tried different speakers on the Marshall and it just sucked no mater what i did I'm the mean time, I pieced together a rig with a 15" Carvin monitor and believe it or not a Pyle 750 watt PA amp. I love the tone on his thing! Cheap Jerry tone through the mic inputs.

Awesome! Reminds me of a HK blues master (I have a vid from a decade ago on my other channel using one) but way better. I think a basic EQ pedal would make it even better z my favorite jerry tone is summer 87-88 tones which I haven’t heard nailed across all jerry players yet.. I wonder if this pedal can be modded to add a middle pot.

I have not tried the Milkman amp out. I used a Twin Reverb head for about 20 years and recently switched to an SMS CTP w/JG mod thru a ART SLA-1 power amp. Im pretty content with this setup thru my 2x12 cab with e-120's. But the size of this Milkman amp is very intriguing. Thanks for the video ;-)

I get that everybody goes for the electric Jerry, but I'm trying to find out a little more about his acoustic side, and I think he probably played fairly sparse with equipment, but I don't know. The stages are very dark in the background when you watch his acoustic stuff, and other than one of the wood machines in his hands, I can't tell what he might be playing through or with in those videos.

Davvy, it looks like your using a regular 1/4” instrument cable to connect the milkman to your cab. Am I just seeing things? I just bought one of these milkman 100’s and i figured you’d need to use a speaker cable rather than a standard instrument cable. Can you help a brother out?

Do you use a 500k pot after your buffer (in guitar) or did you misspeak? I ask because most seem to use a 25k or even 10k.

Really great demo. I'll apologize upfront for writing such a long post but I can't help it. I'm not from the TikTok generation and find generic comments devoid of any substance to be pointless. Guess I hold onto to hope there are still others who feel the same way. To be honest, I'm here for the Milkman, not the Jerry (though I do like the Grateful Dead). I appreciated your approach of building up from just the base amp tone to how it interacts with different effects, PU selections, and cab options. It's readily apparent your demo would be quite useful for performing musicians. I'd like to share some positive feedback for your overview as it relates to someone like me -> predominantly interested in the Amp 100 as a pedal platform for recording purposes. As a guitarist, my 80/20 is 80% acoustic and 20% electric, which colors my mentality towards guitar rigs. So does my preference for shaping tone and dialing in frequencies predominantly in the post-recording stage (i.e. in a full mix context, not blindly dialing in guitar tone in a vacuum). When you stop gigging, It's easy to forget the importance of maximizing the availability of direct controls in close-proximity, and why there's wisdom in keep-it-simple-stupid. What I'm getting at is -> from a recording perspective, the modest 7 knobs of control can at times seem rather limited instead of a benefit, especially in relation to the Amp 100 price point. No question, uncomplicated and instantly available controls are a plus for live performances... especially when sitting at your feet on stage. But for someone like me, the question is if this type of Amp is the best available option for recording if you have volume constraints? I've owned the Milkman Amp 100 for about 3 months now and I'm still working through finding the optimal recording setup. I've complicated the learning-curve further by recently adding a considerable number of new and unfamiliar pedals. On top of this, it's hard to channel my mentality away from my unplugged comfort zone. Dialing in a good acoustic tone can be deceptively hard at times, but at the end-of-the-day the challenge is room/mic placement and phase issues, not the gear. A couple of good mics running through a tube pre-amp (or two), a 500 series compressor, and an interface with quality transparent pre's... along with remembering your fingers are your first line of controls, that's about it. Unfortunately there isn't much correlation with electric guitar chains. I started producing/recording about 5 years ago and the first thing I discovered was my really nice amps weren't suitable due to volume constraints (i.e. too loud for the neighbors). I started using the best virtual amp plugins I could find, and concluded I'm neither a virtual amp hater or apologist. You can get a decent overall tone and they sound reasonably realistic. However, no matter the quality of saturation, pre-amp/transistor, and console/EQ/Comp emulation plugins I added in the mixing stage... there was still a gap vs. the weight, depth, richness, and color of a physical amp. So can the Amp 100 bridge the gap for me? At this stage, I don't know yet if this is my recording amp solution. What I do know, is your video provided some clarity on where I have some specific knowledge shortfalls. There's absolutely nothing wrong with KZfaq videos showcasing the Amp 100 from a fully integrated/optimized and polished perspective -> it's useful for visualizing the potential of a piece of gear. However, it doesn't contextualize the realistic baseline scenario we encounter as new users. Your video helped address several of my key questions: 1) For my specific electric guitar needs, Is the notion of using a real tube amp a placebo effect? When I think I'm hearing a genuine improvement using the Amp 100, is it because I want to believe I'm hearing an improvement? 2) Does the Amp 100 provide enough improvement over plugins, when used as a pedal platform running directly to the interface? 3) Is it worth the added production effort to clean up the higher noise floor, and the corresponding frequency loss compromise? 4) Is the option of adding an attenuator and pulling out one of my cabs from the garage worth consideration? 5) How noticeable is the difference between a mic'ed cab vs. direct-to-interface? 6) How much of my challenge relates to not knowing how to fully harness the flexibility of onboard controls and routing options? On the surface these are fairly basic questions, but sometimes the answers are fleeting until you can separate yourself and your recording from the equation. That's when listening to someone else is essential, but unfortunately illustrations that start from the ground up are few and far between. Your video confirmed (1) I'm not dealing with a placebo effect and (2) there is a noticeable improvement running through physical speakers. Above all, it was another clear example of the disadvantage of having a high level of familiarity with certain effects/controls but from a deceptively different context. I first learned this when trying to use a compressor as an electric guitar effect. I was coming at it the way I used a comp as (1) a limiter and note leveler for acoustic guitar in live settings and (2) production and mixing techniques aimed at gluing the mix, controlling/designing transients, and smoothing out spikes (essentially prepping for mastering). The idea of using a comp pedal with 2 ambiguous controls seemed like a joke. It turns out simplistic 2 knob comp pedals are pretty useful, and a full featured 1176 style comp in an effects chain might not be the right tool for the job... who knew! Relating this back to your video, balancing the mix of Channel and Master volumes on an amp to find the point of break-up is hardly unique. But your explanation of the left-corner Volume knob controlling the tube and the Master Volume controlling the Class-D, really clarified it for me in a far less abstract way than randomly tweaking without direction. So did your explanation of the Boost knob, which I now interpret as a somewhat more independent control for adding in more dirt. I'm still a bit hazy on exactly how adjusting this control interacts with the two Volume controls, then again I'm not convinced I understand the value of a Boost. I Acknowledge it's 99% likely a result of inaccurately associating the purpose of a Boost as no different than what I'm trying to achieve with a tube pre-amp, light overdrive, and volume pedal. Yes, a large part of my problem is I'm a competent acoustic guitarist but a shockingly ignorant electric guitarist, in relation to how many years I've been playing. For perspective, I don't use a pick either. Perhaps the biggest discontent you cleared up is related to the two-band EQ... which I previously considered nearly worthless. Even if it had a Mid Freq control I would have still considered it impotent. For context, I incessantly design the freq curves on my tracks with a high level of detail, and the Source Audio EQ2 on my board is not a decoration. My confusion isn't tied to a lack of of experience in using EQ, it's tied to not seeing the value of far too limited and broad EQ controls. An early lesson learned in production, is in general the art of using EQ in mixing is a series of many slight cuts and boosts, and rolling off or shelving the extremes as needed. The idea of diming or nearly zeroing out a tone control (vs. a gentle roll-off) was completely foreign to me, so when I saw your settings I recoiled in horror (until I heard how it cut through and eliminated low end build-up). This should have been blatantly obvious to me, so I'm a bit embarrassed. OK, I think I've said enough to explain what I could have said in a few sentences -> I enjoyed your video and I learned something with practical application, thanks!

So when you say “plug directly in”, does that mean it’s compatible with my EV ETX 12’s? That type of PA? Plug this to the mixer and run through the EV mains?

The simplicity of Jerry's sound is kind of terrifying as a guitarist. His musicianship was such that it's incredibly easy to sound like pure shit recreating it, or to very noticeably fluff it. Side note, your tone and playing here is killer man!
