Honestly if I was going to buy a higher end workhorse guitar, I'd get an ESP EII. They don't cost anywhere near as much, there is plenty of variety in range from finishes to body shapes, Floyd Rose Originals on trem models, Japanese made instruments are just as good as American made (and arguably more consistent in quality control), and from what I've seen most of the time they come with hard cases. This to me seems like a guitar that only really appeals to Jackson fans at the end of the day, as there are so many other choices on the market with better specs at lower prices.
@spoonerluv
@spoonerluv Жыл бұрын
My only arguments against the ESP are the lack of neck reinforcement, and the volume knob placement isn't to my taste.

At 53 years old I'm fortunate to have picked up my share of USA Jackson's over the past 25 years. I still have 6 of them and I've never found a better playing metal guitar. I'm a total Jackson fangirl (although after just getting my first Solar, I may be tempted away!!), and I love their workhorses that consistently both Chug and shred; this one looks like it's a good continuation of the lineage I adore, but... That price??? I can get a LOT more for my money second hand (including USA custom shop). In today's climate, they really should be going for 'the peoples market' not overpricing like this.... And bugger me, nickel frets?!?!?!? Thats just petty penny-pinching on a premium-priced guitar. Would be like buying an Audi RS-4 with a Dacia trim level inside. You still give me chills with your playing though dude! Will be breaking out the Stevie Vai lick bag myself when I get home from France now thanks to your jammage!!! 🤘🖤🤘

EBMM has stuff in that price range has more features, including SS frets. Even by US-made prices, that Jackson isn't an amazeballs deal. Now... I don't know if a bolt-on would be considerably cheaper, but I have to believe modern production techniques have helped to ameliorate that somewhat. One problem is that price range also gets into some really nice Japanese guitars with more features.

ESP LTD, Ibanez and Solar are also way better. You get Stainless steel frets and premium components for cheaper. I can hardly justify paying for a guitar with nickel frets for 1k+. After experiencing SS frets, it lasts forever and plays smoother / better. Bloody Charvel needs to up their game too but it's Fender as a whole.

I bought a USA Carvin JB200SC a few years ago customised to my spec and even paid extra for the headstock to be flipped, also has stainless steel frets, and still only paid roughly £1500 for it. Now I know given how everything is MUCH different a few years on regarding the market, but still this is pretty mad for a guitar with a bog standard finish, minimal hardware, and nickel frets. It's a really nice guitar, and the build looks very clean, but I definitely agree with you about the price dude. So I have 3 USA select SL1 guitars. They're all great, but one of them has been my main for about 8 years. It is just has that stand out feel. I got one of these a month ago, and I don't know, it's actually just better. I prefer the aesthetics of non binded fretboard and reverse inlays, it has the lumin dots, the locking tuners are so much faster to restring, and for some reason it plays better. I was hesitant about the 1500 fr compared to the OFR but it holds up just as well. The push bar is also hander, and doesn't have the risk of the thread screw cracking over time. Also, the new volume pot position is far better. That was a big annoyance on the USA selects. I have to say that the American standard is my new favourite. It just plays better. In my opinion, where this guitars value lies, is if you want a USA select but don't want to pay over £3000, then this is what you want to buy. It has more modern features, build quality is just as good, and it is 30% cheaper. A case is a case. Its going to get screwed up on tour anyway. As long as it does the job I'm happy

The reason these guitars came about (my opinion) was because the traditional USA Jacksons had got too expensive to sell. This guitar has some decent upgrades (pickup selecting) but its an assembly line guitar and it shows. Its not a bad guitar but its not the same build as the previous USA guitars. Its more like a USA version of the Pro series- which is an offshore factory build.

I just picked one of these up but it was comfortably under that $2700 MSRP. The build quality is definitely there and my particular example is free of any defects as far as I can tell. I too was hoping for a hard case similar to what those American Fender guys include but the one that comes with the Jackson is not horrible. I personally like it. The Jim Root American Strat does come with a VERY nice hard case and the whole setup comes in comfortably under this MSRP. I suspect the 'actual price paid' for each is closer though.

I recently managed to get a Jackson PS4 from the 90s.......it was hard to find (used goes for around $500-600, IF you find it.....until I cross along a totally used totally abandoned in a barn for years, it was covered in spider web, all the bolts were full of ox, same with the springs.............but it was $100!!........I managed to save all its original parts, refurbished replacing the pickups for a HSH Fishman active pickups ($400 thrown just there), and a battery pack tremolo cover!............amazingly the Floyd Rose license tremolo was INTACT, not a single scratch nor oxidation in it...........the guitar is now a starship..........so, yeah, even if bought in conditions $600 for a sold out relic, going to $2700????.........I would buy me the Jackson PS2 and replace the neck pickup with a Sustainer for 1/4 of that.

These guitars are amazing, I’m not a huge FR player so I’m biased to not really care. But the 1500 is the same metal, materials and dimensions as the OFR, it’s just made in Korea and for everyone saying LTD and solar are better value, where are those made? I love SS frets but they absolutely aren’t necessary and if you actually wear your frets down you can have them put on down the road if this is a lifetime instrument. This is American made quality and is imho the best quality guitar I’ve ever played and owned. I have had prestige’s I have an ESP horizon and this one has the best build quality. I would rather a Korean FR that is still very good and looks awesome than have $4-5k Jackson’s again. I have 3 guitars with SS frets and there is no difference in feel, just that idea in the back of your mind they will never wear out. Idk if the price went down but I got mine brand new for $2300, I got the blue one and the only thing I wish it came with was a hard case but I have 6 hard cases so that’s not a concern for me personally but if you don’t, the case it’s comes in is serviceable until you can get a hard case

I've tried two of these guitars at my local guitar store, the matte and gloss versions. What I liked: I loved the neck profile and the neck thru joint. Super smooth and easy to access higher frets. The fretboard is super smooth (which you'd expect at this price.) What I don't like: They don't use a Floyd rose Original on a guitar that costs $3500 CAD. They use the cheapest pickups Seymour Duncan offers (Not bad pickups at all, don't get me wrong. Was just hoping for something more unique like Pegasus/JB Jr's, etc.) Doesn't have Stainless steel frets even with how expensive the guitar is. I find the finishes super boring and basic. I can get a Prestige Ibanez for up to $1500 CAD LESS MONEY. In my opinion? Get an Esp or an Ibanez for this kind of money. Or maybe even go for a Halo guitar, since they offer better hardware like Evertunes, Schaller Lockmeisters, and Fishman Pickups.

@@northernlefty5412 I agree. Shame on them. Jackson makes some deadly instruments. Their pro/x series soloists that are like $800-900 CAD here punch way above their weight class and are great mod projects. I guarantee that you could take one of those, add a gotoh 1996t or Schaller Lockmeister, add some actual duncan pickups (Or God forbid some fish man's), and add some locking tuners... You could make a guitar that has the same neck profile and plays the same, but has better hardware and is STILL NECK-THRU for around $1400-1500CAD. Me personally? I'll stick to my Premium label Ibanez cuz it's just the right guitar for me 😝

Tbf to Jackson, and I say this as a guy who doesn't like Jackson, the floyd 1500s are actually just a flyod original with upgraded materials. They're actually using a higher end bridge in this case Still not worth even close to 3500 bucks though
